- Holocaust survivor Egon Sonnenschein has revealed he feels unsafe and threatened amid the rise of antisemitism in Australia.
Mr Sonnenschein spoke to former treasurer Josh Frydenberg in part of a new Sky News Australia documentary 'Never Again: The Fight Against Antisemitism'.
The former treasurer in the documentary takes a look at the danger antisemitism poses to social cohesion and how it undermines Australian values of tolerance and diversity.
Mr Frydenberg said for someone who came from Europe after the horrors of the Holocaust and says he's now “feeling unsafe and threatened, that's just not on”.
“It’s a sign, if we needed another sign, of a comprehensive failure of leadership in this country from government, from our institutions, from law enforcement.
“That’s seen this explosion of antisemitism in the last eight months since the tragedy of October 7.”
Who said ‘never again’? Well it is happening again.

When does this "genocide" start? At the moment - it's just the people who started a war, losing.
There is no genocide in Gaza. There is a war in Gaza, and if there were a genocidal intent in that war, then for one thing, there would have been no warning before attacking.
Suppose you are worried it's genocide because of the number of deaths. Did you know the UN reduced the number of confirmed women and kids casualties by half? And even after that, in the full report, they released the list of the dead, there are about 4000 records in the report that are either duplicated records, fake ID numbers, or even just empty ID numbers (weird for verified and identified).
That report also includes people who were reported dead in 2014. And hundreds of children who are actually adults according to the UN listed as children. They also still don't list any of the Hamas casualties that stand on over 15k. Or natural death. 1st world countries have roughly 5 yearly deaths from natural causes for every 1000 civilians. Assuming a similar low death count for 2 million civilians after 6 months, that means 5,000+ natural deaths that were undoubtedly recorded in these numbers.
Why do they need to fake so many records if Israel indeed killed that many people? It's all very fishy. Also, a few days ago, a new video was released from Gaza that showed teenagers who were supposedly "executed by the IDF". Weirdly enough, those kids moved during that clip. Why all this work if there are really so many innocent deaths. And yet, everyone still believes every lie that comes out of there.
Personally, I'm relieved there is no genocide. Genocide is a horrible crime! People shouting about a made-up genocide just reduces its meaning.
The fighting in Gaza will stop the minute Hamas will surrender and the hostages will be returned.

I am a child Holocaust survivor and escaped Auschwitz only by being used as medical research test person as I have a very rare blood disorder as well as Scheuermann's diseases. A Nazi German medical person has used me as a guineapig for tests and medications.
Nevertheless, I was handed over into countless orphanages and survived the Second World War and had later a French and Dutch foster family adopting me.
To forget the pain and suffering, in the 1970th I decided to migrate to Australia to forget the past as Australia was far away from the newly upcoming racism and antisemitism in Europe. I saw Australia as a safe place to live for a Jewish person. How wrong was I! I had countless racist actions against me as soon as some former Nazis living in Australia migrating with Argentine passports found out that I was a Jew. I must admit that some of the Jewish community persons have not been supportive either.
Now in 2024 we have a government that does not support Israel or the Jewish community in Australia as to political and electoral reasons. We have a very week prime minister, foreign minister and some other government persons that see Jews as second-class citizens and minority and prefer HAMAS supporters as they are plentiful as electoral targets.
Nowadays, I am a very old and rather frail person, and I am scared to go out in the evenings as I had some encounters with antisemitism.
In hindsight I regret coming to Australia and I see it was a bad foresight as over the years more and more Middle Eastern people and hate preachers turned up in Australia to show their hate against Jews.
I watched the Frydenberg Documentary with tears in my eyes as it vividly reminded me that I lost my entire family in Auschwitz, and I am scared for my life now living in Australia. Thank you, Mr Albanese, Ms Penny Wong, and Mr Chris Bowen.
