    Shaila Catherine is an international teacher and author, based in California. Her most recent book - “Beyond Distraction: Five Practical Ways to Focus the Mind’- is the subject of this Webinar.
    Shaila began practicing meditation in 1980, studying with masters in India, Thailand, and Nepal. She spent more than nine years in silent retreat. She has taught meditation internationally since 1996. She is the founder of Insight Meditation South Bay and an online Dhamma classroom.
    She began this Webinar with a brief meditation.

    Thank you Shaila .The book is excellent. I am reading it and keep finding myself in it chapter by chapter. Really a great complimentary support for any practicing buddhist . 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Many useful suggestions on dealing w/distraction & getting back on track. Overlaps a little w/CBT. Also veers a bit from trad’l insight-oriented therapy’s predisposition to try to uncover root causes for habitual maladaptive thinking-and she provides pragmatic reasons for giving priority to other methods (specifically within the context of practicing meditation).

      Indeed. There needs to be enormous work on developing compassion and wisdom in conjunction with just trying to focus on the breath! But perhaps we all have to slowly but surely learn these things on our own. One could think one's really mastered beautiful states through breath meditation only to find later when things aren't going so well oneself back in hell!
      Slowly but surely is the way! 😃
