My father lived with that beep the whole weekend until I got there on Monday. I changed the batteries for him, he couldn't reach it on the ceiling I felt so bad he had to listen that. Being old sucks when you can't do a simple chores in your apartment. I would drive 40km five days a week on the weekend I took a break. I miss my Dad dearly now. That would be hard for a deaf person to figure out what that sound was. My niece had two hearing implants when she was just two. What a world of difference it made for her.
Please, the smoke alarm is hanging too low. It has to be at the ceiling. Right there its at your head height. Till there is enough smoke accumulated, that it reaches this height, it has gone so much preciuos time, to take action. All you can do now is lay low, because its already at your own height, that you can't walk, and get the fuck out. The smoke alarm should alarm you at the beginning of a fire, or before it's really there. At this placement it only can tell if there is a outgrown fire raging. Stay safe!

It's called a cochlear implant. I knew a girl from school with one. They're not magic, though. I think Jessica Kellgren-Fozard talks about them on her channel
