I was maintenance staff on Mt. Mitchell from May to October in 2009. Scrubbed the toilets, worked the concession stand, and mowed the "lawns". The work was not fun to say the least but I will never forget the views and the connection to nature I had working up there as a flat land Florida boy. I'm very glad to see she is as beautiful as ever and being well taken care of. I built those fences along the trail to the summit and they certainly do look a bit worn by the weather. 15 years is a long time.
Nice little hike. Sometimes it’s better to drive to the top. Either way the views are still awesome. I like those signs that show you where everything is way off in the distance. I would have guessed Mt Washington was the highest too. 👍
I’m really not lying when i say this Elisha Mitchell was my 6th great uncle. They named the mountain after him after he fell to his death while doing research.
