  • Golden Sands is a major seaside resort town on the northern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Located some 17km north of Varna / Bulgaria the Golden Sands area (known in German as "Goldstrand") is popular with Eastern European, German and Russian tourists on packaged holidays. The proximity to Varna makes it easily accessible by public transport with the airport there. At this point in time (August 2022) many Ukrainian refugees are staying in this area as several hotels take part in the refugee program.
    The history of the Golden Sands mass tourism area started in the middle of the 1950's. This led to some massive concrete hotels that aren't favorably viewed by today's aesthetics. Since then this tourist area has been continuously developed.
    Some (marketing?) legend has it that the name “Golden Sands” comes from an old story that tells of pirates who dug a huge stolen gold treasure in the ground which the land turned into sands. The sand is pretty standard today...
    We walk some part of the busy beach walk area until Hotel Berlin near the marina late afternoon first. An endless stream of shops, beach bars and hotels facing the Black Sea. Later, near sunset (after swimming a bit) we walk back to our starting point and uphill to an hotel area to get an impression of the touristic atmosphere.

    This area looks beautiful in August :) I see many ice cream/pancake/doner stalls and bars. Which of these close for winter and when do they close for winter?

    • @poptravelorg
      @poptravelorg  Рік тому

      I think pretty much all are closed during winter. It may be different this year as many Ukranian refugees are housed in the hotels. Some more places than usual may be kept open. The sea gets too cold during winter so few tourists travel to this area during winter. You can check out Varna, the city though as people live there all year

    Cosmologically, this resort is the real deal and even you have an unhappy holiday here, you can make do with a Robinson Crusoe holiday if you can also be Jason of the Argonauts.

    This summer, when I was traveling through Bulgaria, I considered going to Varna to escape the heatwave 🤣 I then went into the mountains instead. But this makes me want to go back again and leave for Varna instead!

      I only spent 2n in Varna, 1n at Golden Sands. Back some 8 years ago I had an apartment nearby for a week which was nice and affordable. Now the area is more expensive this summer as hotels seem to do better by housing refugees. In any way there is also some Varna walk coming later. The city was nice, though I have moved on to Romania, where I am now.. It was really hot und humid so the mountains were a good choice.

    here in Brazil in the summer, the roads that connect the beaches are completely stopped. is it very different in Europe? because the desire to move there is very great 🤣

    • @poptravelorg
      @poptravelorg  Рік тому

      I don't understand what roads are "stopped" like full of traffic? Before moving consider that Europe and its beaches are only warm during a few weeks in summer. Mostly July-August is the main holiday season. There are few cities with beaches - mostly in Spain. I've traveled around 6 months on several trips all around Brazil and it used to be rather easy to get to the sea

      @lucasleite8307 Рік тому

      @@poptravelorg It depends on the beach, but always between December and February on a trip that should take 2 hours, it takes 4 hours

      @@poptravelorg Beaches are warm only for a few weeks? What?
      Summer season in Bulgaria is from May till first days of October. Sometimes its beach weather as early as late April.
      In warmer countries like Spain and Greece summer is even longer. I dont get what youre saying, its totally wrong and can give the wrong impression. I mean the longest season in Bulgaria is summer. An ex-communist country doesnt mean its Siberia and grey winter year long.

    • @dwartbg1
      @dwartbg1 Рік тому

      @@lucasleite8307 Yes, I get what youre asking. There is crazy traffic in summer towards the coastline in Bulgaria. There is a highway leading from the capital with speed limit 140 km/h and even such road gets pretty crowded and dangerous. A lot of crashes happen during that time of the year too sadly.
      People avoid driving there during some hours of the day. From Sofia to Burgas the coastline it takes around 3 hours. During peak season or weekends it can take as long as 5.
      Keep in mind also Bulgaria gets more foreign tourists than Brazil and for its size it gets pretty overpopulated.

      I already left Bulgaria as my main destination on this trip is Romania. A Varna videowalk is getting published sometime later. I haven't heard of Albena and Balcik though they seem nice resort towns. Maybe another summer... Thanks for watching!

    • @dwartbg1
      @dwartbg1 Рік тому

      Yes Albena is probably one of the best resorts at the northern part of the coastline.
      The beach in Albena is nothing like the author would've ever seen. Golden Sands is pretty overrated compared to it.
      Still sadly hotels in Albena are way more expensive though.
      But as for best in whole of Bulgaria the southern coastline is way better and also more popular for tourists. Places like St.Vlas, Sunny Beach, Sozopol, Lozenets, Sinemoretz etc.
      Weather and fauna is different there. Its drier and more meditteranean. The Varna region is considered "the cold part of the seaside" and is less popular with locals. You shouldve visited the southern parts to experience the "real" Bulgarian coast.
