Fantastic to see this project from start to finish - can't wait to see the final and see the different in the traffic flow through departure and arrival.
Yeah I lost tabs on the airport since I moved out of the city . When I was there I lived down the street from the tarmac and could go on airport to spot but it's been ages since. If things are as nice as the video I am impressed. Amazing that we are a smaller market yet our airport is super dam nice.
Used to live in Tampa. According to this demo, it is no longer going to be the hub-spoke for everyone. If you want to fly into Tampa and rent a car, you have to transfer to another train/monorail and travel a good mile to walk more to the rental car. With a family of four and bags to boot, this is not going to be very convienent anymore. Good thing I am flying there for the first time in a decade this December and this won't be finished yet. I will be sure to avoid this airport in the future as I fly a lot but not much into Florida anymore and there are options to get there.
I don't think this adds any walking distance for people renting cars- the only difference is that they'll spend about five minutes sitting in a monorail first. Plus, the way they had the car rental set up before was incredibly confusing, so this remote facility will be a welcome change, especially for those of us who live in the area and just need to rent a car for one reason or another.
Go to Miami and test that theory - it is the model they use. Of course they don't have the hub-spoke system Tampa has so you walk a very long distance on moving walkways to get to the monorail that takes you to the rental car. I am sure the remote facility is better for those who live in Tampa - you don't have to go all the way to the airport anymore. The airport is still one of the best in the country, and the access roads are far better than they were a decade ago.
If you return your rental car you can check your bag and get your boarding pass directly at the Rental Car facility instead of the check in level at the main terminal.
@@Jonathanok100 YOU ARE NUTS. THIS IS MILES. LOOK AT HOW MANY CHANGES IN LEVELS AND MASSIVE MASSIVE BUILDINGS. IN BUFFALO NY YOU PARK ACROSS FROM THE TERMINAL AND CAN WALK IN -50 FEET. THIS IS 5000 FEET. THINK ABOUT IT
Crazy stupid the worst. Take people off a plane on a tram to a middle bldg. Then have them go upstairs to another Mitsubishi train for (wait for it) (get this) 1.4 mile trip to a Rental Car Center. Oh by the way. When you drop off your car and "think" you can just conveniently after taking a huge escalator to a top floor or some crazy thing like that, "convenient" baggage drop off, they dont tell you it has to be at least - get this - 90 friggin minutes ahead of departure for the bag to move 500 feet. All this only cost $417 million they claim. So a con artist drafted this "Master Plan." I WILL TELL YOU WHO THEY DIDNT MAKE THIS FOR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THE DISABLED. THEY ARE VIOLATING THE ADA ACT BIG TIME
