    last year, 2021, someone gave me a Dell laptop from the late 1990s. i removed the batteries, 8 red ones i think, and they were all still holding a 3.5v charge even though they hadnt been charged for over 10 years. they are all working and holding a charge better than new ones i bought in 2020. Old laptops are a great resource for 18650s

    Panasonic make 3600mAh cells and soon they are releasing 4000mAh cells (which they have already made prototypes of). So a lot of these old used batteries you got are really only 1/3rd as good as the new Panasonic's that will be released. But at 0.6 dollars a cell you still are winning, as the new Panasonic's will very likely be around 8 dollars each. Or in bulk maybe 5 dollars each. So it's still worth doing what you are doing here.

    Great idea. He could actually repair the broken laptop batteries and sell them back on eBay.

    I just looked on craigslist here in vegas and there is nothing on there that would be worth it at the moment but I am going to keep my eye out for something - Thanks for the video - I was thinking about using these for my electric skateboard video

    You can charge the dead batteries for long time (24 hr) to become live

      Some times it works, but mostly they will not hold a charge after they were dead. Hontestly it's a waste of time.

    There are chargers in the market that activate 0 volt zombie cells

      Old TP4056 module can initiate charging. After that i put them in smart charger (OPUS BT-C3100) but usualy they cant hold charge.

      That works as long as cells arent damaged......a dead cell stays dead, no matter what. A cell that isnt working mustnt be necessarally dead, but once dead, i will stay dead.

      Isn't it really dangerous to discharge them beyond 2v?

    I opened today a faulty Powerbank from eloop (50000mAh) which had 8 Cells inside and 3 of them were death with 0V and 1 with below 2V, the other 4 are all above 3V. The one with 1.xxV I was able to charge but the 3 with 0V! So, I opened one of that 0V Cells to find out, that inside was just fine Sand, and so in those other 2 0V Cells. All those cells were totally unmarked: NO Name, NO mAh etc., all in red plastic shrink foil. Comp[ared the looking of the upper (+) connect, showed that the upper connect were about 0.5mm below of the 'good' 5 Cells on those 3 0V Cells.
    That all said, dealing with those 2.Hand. LI-ION Batteries requires a lot of tension for to sort out the good from the bad. Still the user could save quite a bit of money using such Cells for to power some devices. And from my own experiences, the best one allway I found in old, just original Laptop Power Backs.

    Hello, I was wondering if you could give me your suggestion.
    I have 6 packs of 24-18650 cells in parallel. And I want to build a power bank that can power 12 volt Accessories I also have a 12v 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter. How can I connect all 6 packs together to achieve the 12 volts. Thanks so much for your input. I'm hoping to get 100ahs for battery. Thanks

      @lostshadow7161 Рік тому

      You be better building yourself 4s only change it to 16 v because 12v device's will not power on at higher than 16v it will make you lost 20% capacity but you will get more rechange cycles at 80% discharge about 1000s or higher

    Do you value your time? Put the cost in. The trees will be very shorted in the life. Just buy a wholesale lot with your mates and get good quality trees

    I had about 100 of those red unbranded they overheat when charging 60% of the time

    • @krlenjuska
      @krlenjuska 5 років тому +1

      Those are sanyo batteries - they always overheat after some time - try to charge them with 100-200mA to 3.8 -4.0 V and leave them for 2-3 days. After that try to charge them to 4.2V. Often 50% of cells works just fine after this. But i avoid sanyo because of that. Samsung for example - 90% of cells in laptop batteries are ok. LG is similar percent.

      Take look at 2:54 min of video. Positive is top of the battery with groove. If you take closer look when i test their voltage you will see that I always put red wire on positive and black on negative.
