  • I will demonstrate successful steps in repairing protected systems files using SFC and DISM both with a running operating system and offline. I will show you how to improve your success in the repair of a damaged/corrupted Windows Component Store. I will explain how Windows protects essential files, folders, and registry keys. We will understand how NTFS hard links are critical to your operating system. I will demonstrate SFC and show what it does in relation to the Windows Component Store. I will demonstrate commands to improve your use of DISM to repair the Windows Component Store, both online and offline. Scripts covered in the video are linked below for download.

    Okay, that sounds good! I assume a file server containing all the versions, and a powershell script to choose from those, plus execution of that once a month would not hurt :-)

    JJust recently I had a Windows 8 machine lock up on me, I had to do a hard reboot, which did a normal reboot. I ran those commands, the DISM /RESTORE HEALTH came back as that Windows component store issue and fixed the issue . I had no idea what that was until this video

      It is not a cure-all due to its inability to repair the registry but it is good utility.

      I had two hours of material that I could have included in this video, I am never sure how long to make them. Give me a week and then down load the video notes and I will go back and add some technical content that I experienced doing this for weeks. Your point was taken!

      You could, but keep in mind to do these steps with most laptops and desktops takes about 20 minutes or less (this includes hard diagnostics), for many users this might be an effective option.
