This year my tax bill was $6k higher than I was anticipating, if Brian Cox was the one to deliver the news somehow I would be perfectly fine with hearing the final figure.
I'm the same but have to listen multiple times to take most of it in, and still can't get my head round half of it! Actually so incredibly interesting, basically unfathomable to my tiny brain 😂
Unfathomably interesting! Cannot even comprehend more than half of what this man says, and he just has it all stored in his head like some immense library! I love listening to him talk about his passion so much, even though I don't understand it, the bits I do get are so interesting it's great
Relativity does not predict singularities, it forbids them. Einstein wrote in 1939 - "The essential result of this investigation is a clear understanding as to why the Schwarzchild singularities (he was the first to raise the issue of General Relativity predicting singularities) do not exist in physical reality. Although the theory given here treats only clusters (star) whose particles move along circular paths it does seem to be subject to reasonable doubt that more general cases will have analogous results. The Schwarzchild singularities do not appear for the reason that matter cannot be concentrated arbitrarily. And this is due to the fact that otherwise the constituting particles would reach the velocity of light. He was referring to dilation. It's the phenomenon our high school teachers were talking about when they said "mass becomes infinite at the speed of light". This does not mean mass increases, it means mass becomes spread throughout spacetime relative to an outside observer. Time dilation is just one aspect of dilation. Even mass that exists at 75% light speed is partially dilated. It occurs wherever there is an astronomical quantity of mass, this includes the centers of high mass stars and the majority of galaxy centers. Dilation is occurring in our own galactic center. This means that there is no valid XYZ coordinate we can attribute to it, you can't point your finger at something that is smeared through spacetime. In other words that mass is all around us. It's the "missing mass" needed to explain galaxy rotation curves. It doesn't occur in galaxies with low mass centers because they do not have enough mass to achieve relativistic velocities. It has recently been confirmed in 6 ultra diffuse galaxies including NGC 1052-DF2 and DF4 to have normal rotation rates, in other words they have no dark matter/dilated mass.
Brian makes the intelligence, wisdom and knowledge of his remarkable intellect so easily accessible for the average person to grasp things we otherwise would not understand.
Listening to his explanation and with the aid of an animated presentations really it sounds substantial. However, I am more convinced to listening to an Indian mystic Sadhguro. When he said: it's better to admit "I DON'T KNOW" about how the wonders of the universe starts and how it ends.
Very true. If there is something or someone else out there is scary, that's way better in every way. We wouldn't stand a chance. If there is nothing (I don't think so), what do we do? Stay on Earth and kill the planet, move to another planet, and kill one after another once we exhaust natural resources?
Wish i had science teacher like you at school, was always top in this subject, but finances with family had to take apprenticeship, to help out thank you for this info.
Brian’s answer on the meaning of life; “the laws of physics rule out immortality” and also “anything living can exist only for a short period of time” are reasons to develop advanced AI.
One mind blowing fact that B C could learn was that the Lunik probes of the 1960s were *not* secret missions, despite what he once claimed! I was there at the time and Russian scientists provided the world with all the transmission frequencies!
I follow what most of Brian is saying - except the part where there is no frontier left on Earth - Hello? 70% of the Earth is covered by oceans & Seas - they also are mostly unexplored frontiers. They also demand research and exploration too.
I don't believe we're "alone, center of the universe" at all. Think about it like this... Take a net and toss it into the ocean at the beach, fish on a boat, etc. Oh!? there's nothing here. Can u say there's no fish that exist at all. No, we just haven't found something, YET.
What more do people want? People generally want to know that they’re not top of the tree, they want to believe there is something more powerful, a ‘God’ like entity, that is in control, that will make things alright, that will give them certainty and security. They want to be answerable to something other than themselves for their existence! You’ve heard of ‘Folie aux Deux’…. This is the Folie aux Civilisation’.
Everything we need to live on Mars? Hmm … let’s see. 1) Air to breath? No. 2) A method for retaining a thick atmosphere even were we to create one? No. 3) A temperature range where we, or any plants or animals we would need could survive on the surface? No. 4) A method for raising the temperature and maintaining it? No. 5) A magnetic field to shield us from harmful radiation? And prevent any new thick atmosphere from being stripped away? No. 6) A method to create such a magnetic field? No. 7) Enough gravity for long term human health? Possibly not. So maybe Brian and Jeff and Elon and the rest of the tech bros should stop trying to distract with this Mars fantasy and become responsible Earth citizens?
You’re right, it’s a dumb question. We don’t need “any galaxies”. We are just one of 5 or so million species currently on this planet. Over 99% of all species ever to exist on this planet are extinct. We won’t need any galaxies when we become extinct.
Huge misconception that light can’t escape a black hole! It isn’t that light can’t escape a black hole…but rather how slow and spread out the photons are due to time dilation. Time is moving so slow near the event horizon and we are moving so fast through time it is the fact that simply nothing is happening fast enough for you to notice meaning it’s dark. You would have to live a thousand lives to witness a single light photon coming out…or maybe many thousands of lives…I have yet to do the math. This is the same reason we never see anything going into a black hole…same reason you never see anything come out it is so slow motion it for all intensive purposes simply isn’t happening because of this diabolical amount of time dilation from the gravity vs the actual gravity holding it in. Best wishes.
Before i start todays rant, i like Brian Cox as a presenter, but he is a story teller. he spouts knowledge of "trillions of universes"out there that cant be counted, black holes we cant pretend to understand, life supporting earth like planets we could never hope to reach and has made a good career out of it. They may, someday, send a crew of deluded clowns to mars who will never be seen or heard from again ,just make sure Brian is amongst them ,for them to be able say be able to say in a final radio message "we are lost, cant find mars, run out of food, just eaten Brian ,Eddy was right, Brian is full of shit" zzzzzzzzzzzzcracklezzzzzzzzzpop......................................".cancel the milk.."......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz pop.
What an amazing way to interpret our existence and time on this planet 🇬🇧🙌😇
Yeah! Thanks for watching 🚀

Brian explains everything in a way that everyone can understand him , he is awesome .
I could listen to this man all day long, he’s so interesting.
@@flookoco2008 same here! Thanks for watching 🚀

The best Brian Cox I've seen for decades.

:) Thank You. Will come back to this video many times to come.
Thank you! 🚀
The “meaning of life” section felt really special. Him explaining it all while showing humanity and its achievements is🥹🔥
Yep, that part really felt special! ❤️
Very good explanation of human life in a crazy universe.

The bigger the telescopes get,the farther they see, the things they see are getting bigger isn't that weird. Seems to be an optical illusion.
Or is sight catching up with light
Light can be worped bent all that shit, then throw in invisible dark matter they, yep anyway you get the illusion
You lost me on that one bro
Confused myself

Meaning of life? 42 as most know.
We should do our heavy industry around the moon so if anything goes wrong it falls to a dead sphere instead of earth.

Some stuff was fact, some stuff was theory. Let’s get that straight.
What do you think a theory is in regards to science?!🤔😆
@ the title of the video says, “Space Facts!” A theory isn’t a fact.
