Mohoric is Slovenian. Can we take a moment to admire his ability to express himself in English? Wow! Wins a stage of the most famous bike race in the world, and then delivers an interview like this in a foreign language. A real credit to this truly international sport.
Unbelievable - spoke with more heart and articulation than anyone else ever has in the Tour, or possibly even any endurance sport. Can’t help but feel the words.
i had literal goosebumps during this interview. incredible insights into the Tour de France instead of just "it was a hard day im glad we won thanks" Loved the emotions, much love Matej!
Its hard yo believe he has such a clear mind to express his feelings and tell the story of himself and many other Riders with such a nice narrative. Moreso considering english is not his mother tonge. Just chapeau
I've come back to watch this interview several times over the last 6 months - so moving and speaking so much to what is great in the man and the sport. What a champion he is.
Watching the race yesterday i wished that the danish would win the stage, since the final brake succes was entirely his work. But boy, seeing this interview changed my mind completely. How many times you see a competitor recognizing the merits of his adversaries in a race? How many times you see a winner explaining so sincerally and with compassion the efforts of all arround him? How many times you see a person that is so genuine in his/her speach because Matej was speaking with his heart? In my opinion this interview should be shown and explained to the kids, because it contains so much humanity in it. Thank you Mr Mohoric for this speech!
Its great to see him describe the pain and suffering riders and all involved in this race. For him to articulate with his words and emotion, this is very powerful.
The irony of everyone picking out Phillipsen for indiscretions when it was really Julian Alaphilippe who committed the worst example of unsportmanship in this tour.
You can feel he truly loves cycling, and riders like him are a big part of why I love cycling. Thank you, Matej. The team has done Gino's memory proud during this tour.
One of the best post race interviews I have seen in the past 20 years! Well done sir, it made me emotional when I hears him wishing everyone could win an stage... Respect.
Big big respect to Matej! lifting all of those who are working for the team especially those who are behind the scenes and also their competitors. paying respect to his co riders. The best interview of all time
My favorite interview ever. Even the pace of his speech adds to the frenetic pace of the required teamwork. I’ve been a cycling fan for 50+ years , & Mateo has summed up what I love about this sport that I can’t explain to non-fans.
What a top Man. Fantastic to hear him talking about the sacrifices his staff make, getting up at 6am to prepare the team for the day and not going to bed til midnight. The forgotten superstars of the TdF.
What a cutie, I haven’t seen a rider express so much self awareness, explaining the guilt using someone else’s wheel and beating them to the line (even though it’s part of the sport and fair play!). He’s very humble and recognizes everyone who works on the team as well as his fellow riders. What a great interview and great ride he did!
When Matej was talking I almost started crying myself. He has his heart on is tongue an on the right place. And he shows what cycling and the guys he is and was riding with, mean to him. Matej, guys like you make cycling the best best thing in world❤
Mohorič is super intelligent. I remember watching a documentary about him on Slovenian television and he was always reading in the evenings, learning languages, etc., after a grueling day of training.
I did not expect to get emotionally moved to the point of crying while watching today's post-race interview of Matej Mohorič, winner of stage 19 of Le Tour de France. My emotions caught me off guard. I had to re-watch this interview a couple times to figure out why it hit me so hard in the feels... It's not simply because he was emotional himself. Lots of TdF stage winners cry tears of joy, because their longtime dream comes true at a moment when they're physically & emotionally exhausted. Crying winners are very common in the 3 big grand tours. I think what really makes this interview different, and what got me choked up, is the pure, unrehearsed EMPATHY and RESPECT he feels for ALL his competitors. It's beautiful. And rare. The 3 grand tours of cycling, especially the Tour de France, are the most difficult, grueling athletic competitions in the world. You have to push yourself to the limits of human endurance for apx 5 hours a day, every day, for over 3 weeks straight. It's like running an ultra-marathon every day for a month. And it's extremely dangerous- crashes happen every stage. Many riders have died. In fact, one of Mohorič's closest teammates, Gino Mäder, died just last month in the Tour of Switzerland (that's the "Gino" they're referencing). But I don't think Mohorič is crying over Gino, or himself... he's crying because he feels guilty for winning when EVERYBODY who has made it this far- 3 weeks into the Tour - and survived... they ALL deserve to win. He's like a soldier looking across the battlefield at his enemy, and seeing that they're no different from himself. He doesn't want to shoot his enemy, because everyone with the courage to fight a war this intense deserves the victory. He's not crying tears of joy for himself, because he beat his competitors. He's crying tears of empathy for his competitors, because he beat them. Chapeau to you Matej Mohorič ❤ #RideForGino
Man I don't even comment that much on UA-cam but that has to be one of the most honest and moving post race interviews! Just shows how much suffering and struggle you have to go through at the top and how harsh it is to miss out even after giving it all!
This is an amazing post race... One of the best in the world and to hear him say he doesn't feel as if he belongs is heart breaking. This is called humility. Bravo Matej!
Unbelievable interview. This guy should write a book, the way he describes everything he is going through is so powerful. Very humble, honest and the awareness to show love and respect for the other riders too. We can learn so much from listening to this interview.
wow. i only heard the audio for this on the livestream, but got teary eyed just listening. i don't recall any sports interview ever that made me a fan instantly. so humble. so human. so honest. congratulations Matej!
i like his honesty and openness to share how hard to be racer on this competition. Definitely a well fought win. Congrats and wish all riders and the fans the best
Brought a tear to my eye to see this interview. Filled with insight and wisdom. I imagine he gave voice to what all the riders and teams feel by now in the race. A man of quality. An extraordinary interview in an extraordinary tour.
Goosebumps and tears.❤ For this well spoken cycling champion. I was so glad he got a big hug after his honest and humble views. Respect in so many ways !
Just incredible. I don't remember I have ever heard so truthful and emotional post race interview. After long and exhausting race, he was pouring words out like no cyclist ever. And it is not even his native language.
This is the best interwiew I’ve ever seen. I cried my eyes out when I saw it, and this is why i love cycling so much. There’s so much passion and suffering in this beautiful sport! From this day, my friend, you got yourself a new fan❤️
One of the best post-race interviews of all time accross all sports. These words will stay and live forever. Congratulations on the win and on the clarity!
What an absolutely fabulous human being. Such humility. I’ve never seen a top athlete bare their soul like that. He’s so right. Every single one of those men that puts themselves through three weeks of pain, deserves the chance to feel the joy of a stage win, but most never will.
Crucifies me watching this interview again. A beautiful Soul that has every given right to be there. Never heard so a humble and honest interview in my life. What a sweet sweet chap. Chapeau!. Footballers are not fit to clean your shoes
Post race interviews are one of the best parts of the tour. It means so much to them all, whether young first stage winners, domestiques who spend most of their career helping others then having their day in the limelight, or riders nearing the end of their career. This tour has had them all, emotions on show and expressing the grit and determination required to win and the appreciation of the effort of their team and the others in the race. But this was the most articulate, and poignant interview of them all. Matej represents all that I love about this sport.
Yeah, not everyone can win but there is certain number of guys who truly deserve it, and Matej Mohorič is one of them! He is always out there, pulling, working so hard, I'm so happy for him! And when you hear him speak like this, summarizing so beautifully all the pain and sacrifice pro cycling at this level demands, and how humble he is and understanding of everyone, makes us even more happy that he won!
Songer dans la victoire à la cruauté que c'est de ne pas gagner pour ses adversaires, c'est tout bonnement désarmant d'empathie. Vous êtes un gentilhomme M. Mohoric. Et déjà une légende.
One of the best post race interviews ever, finally someone not sugar coating what it takes but gives real indepth insight to how tough the professional cycling can be and what it takes, I really appreciate the raw emotion and authentic break down of a stage of a TDF! #ForGino
This interview deserves to be shown across the globe. Explains the beauty of cycling, of sport, of competition with the troubles and hardships therein. Just beautiful. Well done Matej... You did Gino proud.
That was hands down the BEST post race interview I have ever witnessed. He captured perfectly the struggle, sacrifices, the brotherhood and the heart of what it means to be a pro racer. Such a real, honest, and heart felt interview. Chapeau sir! ❤🩹❤🩹❤🩹❤🩹
The previous posters have said it all. Listening to the interview, I felt as much emotion as he displayed. When he retires, he should make a great commentator!
Not only his English good. But he unveil all the truth that cycling is the cruelest and hardest sport ever exist. It tests your endurance, physical, emotional, and pain tolerance. also level of maturity as well. All the best to Matej, would love to see him in the same team with Primoz or Pogi.
better to see Mohoric on any team that will give him free reign to go all out to battle for stage wins. on a big GC team, a rider like Matej is just an expendable asset, an engine to be used up to propel a GC rider into position. Matej is too awesome for that.
My respect to you, Sir. You totally belong to the amazing group of cyclists on the tour. Your words were heartfelt. Next time someone asks for the definition of empathy, I'll show them this interview ❤
So much hard work on trainings, so much emotions and tears and ups and downs, so strong determination and focus needed, so much pain felt ... and on the end ... you win by 0.004 sec. Hats off Matej to be so down to earth, so humble, so open. Pure soul, pure sportsman.
A beautiful and selfless answer to a question that is usually answered in sound-bites. What an amazing teammate and rider. I’ve got a new favorite rider.
All you have to know about cycling and this race in particular was beautifully and tearfully explained by this class act of a competitor. Thank you for that Matej.
One of the best post-race interviews I've seen in 46 years of following this sport. Chapeau sir, you're a monster and a gentleman.
Absolutely agree. Captivating interview, super genuine and charismatic. Thanks, Mohorič!
Man i had tears streaming down watching and hearing. What a Gem of a guy!!!
Absolutely true
I totally agree. And I honestly have no words to describe how impressed I am with this man. Bless him for his heart and honesty.
What a flow of emotion! Beautifully said, Moho!

Great point...
He's fluent in English whereas Pog and Rog are not as comfortable
Before going for pro, he was top student in the class as well: what a man
We are very proud of you. You represents what cycling means to me. Humble, force, self-determination, human quality, respect, grateful...
Not to mention balls of STEEL
if u watch 1 post-race cycling interview, this should be it!!! Class, intelligence, humanity, humility...Mohoric...a winner everyone is happy for

Impressive ride. Impressive man.
Phillipsen would do well to watch this and find some humility.
Exactly right!
what did jasper do?
Won a few stages, turned into a bully and a needy twerp.

What a performance!
Also, he spoke so quickly during the interview he added another K to the average speed of the day.

The best interview of all time
Yes the hat tap to the team that supports the riders was pure class.
I came here to say just this. He lifted up the support team. What beautiful humility and kindness.
What an exceptional interview, just pouring out his heart and soul😢
