This is one of my favorite star blocks. For anyone just making them, be sure to match up the seam in the pinwheel with the center seam of the flying geese. I learned the hard way when I didn't pay attention and had to rip out some I sewed. So happy for your family with the new little one! Grand babies bring so much joy! ❤
Always a good thing when I get notified of a new Lori upload. Love your books, blocks and sew alongs. My hardest part is choosing what fabrics I want to use.
I'm a little late to this video but congrats on baby Reed. How exciting! Babies are wonderful. Love this quilt block. It's amazing how much faster it is to make anything when you do all similar pieces at once. It's also a lot less fatiguing.
Thanks Lori for another very informative instructional video. Continue to enjoy spoiling Grand baby Reed❤ Would love to see a renewal of the Scrappy Quilt Planner with the design planning pages only for it a great page size format. I’m sure Kimberly would be on board 😊.
I love Star blocks too. I like your more complex looking star. It looks great. Thanks a bunch and congrats on the grandchild. They are so fun, I have 11 grands and 2 great-grands.
Thank you sooo much Lori!!! This is one of my all time favorite books!! I have never tried this short cut method for Flying Geese (am a fairly new quilter)so am excited to give it a whirl!! So happy you get lots of snuggle time with baby Reed!! :)
I have been sewing for close to fifty years and took up quilting a little over a year ago. Your tutorials have taught me so much! Quilting is different from garment sewing and your methods and teaching style are absolutely fantastic. Thanks very much
I love your formula for the flying geese. I love your book. Thank you so much for all your teachings. I have your books too ❤️❤️❤️ oh and I love your fabrics.
Happiness is Scrappiness is the best book I've ever bought. I love the quality of the book as well as all of the patterns inside. So...when is Happiness is Scrappiness 2 going to come out? I do hope you have something planned.
Thank you so much for showing this block - it is simpler than what I thought. Seeing it put together just made it so much easier. Your Scrappy Project Planner, was my favorite to write all my quilt projects into - I have 4 of them :). I just kept buying the next, and next. I now use one of your plain lined 'Prim' notebooks - and dressed it up with stickers. Documenting my quilts has become so useful. Thank you for all your help and inspiration, Lori!
Love the book and no, I hadn’t checked out your short cuts. Thanks for showing this today, I love flying geese but I am not always accurate. I love this block too. Great tutorial! So very happy baby Reed is here, happy and healthy and that mommy is doing well. Babies just make your world go round don’t they?
I am enjoying this quilt along very much and have learned so much from your teaching methods. I am also sewing along with Kimberly and Fat Quarter Shop on the Spools Quilt a long! I just ordered by background, border and spool(s) fabrics! Can't wait to get cutting again and put the spools I have completed together! I showed my daughter-in-law the bee block and she loved it! I made her a pillow for Christmas! She picked out her fabrics!
I sew enjoy todays video. Learned better how to use your rule on the featherweight along with your trim up rulers. Enjoy seeing the shortcut flying geese method as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. 🌸
I’m so excited for Applesauce! I just finished my Scrappy apples and pieced the entire center. (When I made one apple, I told myself I’d wait for your tutorial, but it was so fun, I just kept going!) Now I want it larger so I’m hoping you’ll share some ideas of border options once the background border is added (Scrappy? One color to match the stems or leaves?) 🎉 Thanks again for a fun and helpful video! This is becoming one of my all time favorite quilt books. I’m thinking of mushrooms, next!!
I LOVE your book - sew glad I bought it; as there are just so many possibilities! Quick request: could you put the "name" of the machine you're using in the show notes?? How fun that would be.
I love it. Although I had cream backgrounds I tried to copy everything you did so my blocks are light backgrounds and some are in pewter. I’m learning, lol.
Thank you for the wonderful video!Which dimensions would you increase to make the fast flying geese oversized, to allow for trimming down to perfection?
This is the method used I the last quilt course I attended. It makes it easier….although, as you suggest, it’s best if they’re cut larger than required. (We also never used the clappers)😊
Very helpful tips! Thank you 💞 I recently made a bunch of the flying geese with the same method. I have your book so I will check out the tips section as I did not notice your recipes for shortcuts. So far I've only done the scrappy strings blocks from the book using some material from my Gramma's pajamas as a memory of her. She loved pretty pajamas. I loved making the scrappy strings. The interfacing is so helpful. Do you have a video on square in a square using flying geese? Mine didn't come out perfectly and it was a little frustrating.
I followed the instructions in the book, but my technique isn’t good enough. I think I need to practice more or cut a little bit bigger and motor and get it more precise. I will try a little bit bigger next time. I really love try this technique out. It was fun.
Hello Lori, I can't find the a World about my scrappy stash book your site. Can you tell me how to find it? Thank you very much for your videos and for all your techniques

Love these shortcuts!!! Thanks for doing this 💖
19:00 Thanks for this new way of making FG!
I learned that flying geese method from Eleanor Burns a LONG time ago. Always comes out accurate! 😄
Thank you Lori Holt!! I dislike making flying geese. I will try your way!
Ok! Now the flying geese makes sense. I kept looking at the directions in the book but wasn’t getting it. Thank you!

Lori, can a small rotating mat be made? The size of the small pink cutting mat you used. I believe that would be very helpful.

Hi Sally...they have just hit the warehouse now so should be available in quilt shops very shortly!

Thank you! I found you just resently. Where your camera is? It TaKe long time for me to change camera place between cutting and Sewing….
Who do you use to service your machines? I’m in UT and have one that needs some work.
How many featherweights do you have. I have one. I keep looking!
