Samrat Banik True but that is the base... paltas and tihais used in this piece were not written. Taal is like the beat- for example - in teen taal (the one in this one) its a duration of 16 Beats. All the tukdas, etc added to it were not written. And 1000s of songs are in teen taal. Taals are not written for individual pieces of music. So in terms of composition- it’s not a written piece but more of a conversation. Which is why in classical Indian music you don’t have notes in front of the musicians coz there is a lot of “improvisation” during the performance. In movie terms: “the scene is of a lover leaving the protagonist” that is taal. The nuances of the scene- script, dialogues etc- that is on the spot
As a learner of Indian classical music I am gonna assure that in our tradition while you are performing alone or you are with some accompanying instruments- you are always improvising the RAAGA and others are improvising there instruments following the same- that’s it. There is no written script that you are memorising. Suppose here two instruments are being played- the one with sticks called Santoor, the Santoor player is playing one particular Raaga that comprises 7 notes, and there is a certain tune in that certain Raaga which is called the Pakad. He was maintaining the Pakad and improvising it in his own way and Usad Zakir Hussain playing a Teen Taal on which the entire composition lies. Taal means the rhythmic cycle. A Teen Taal is composed in 16 beats. Within the boundary of that 16 beats a tabla player can be extremely innovative. Indian classical music is very intricate. You can’t understand this until you are not learning it from a teacher, we call a Guru. Love to see your reaction videos. Best wishes.
@Rick Segal, It wasn't a song, it was a RAAG. And, Raags are improvised on stage. Lot of people think, improvisation in Indian Music is like Jazz, but in Indian Music improvisation is done under strict rules(of the particular raaga), hence making it very unique.

I'm ashamed of myself because being an Indian I was not aware about such a magical divine performance yet. You guys OSR brought me in.
Your reactions are just soo spell-bounding just like when i first saw him 32 years ago in Orlando!
OSR thank you for reacting to this ❤️ You made my day
Love how you guys are rocking out to this like it's your regular jam.
I'm lucky to even alive to listen that. Proudest Indian. Respect to both. 🙏
Santoor is my favourite instrument. Loved how they are playing with raaga and taala. Wah ustad Wah. 😊Shat shat naman 🙏
This is the real power of Indian classical music. It takes us beyond the divinity. It connects you from your soul.
This is called jugalbandi (instrumental duet) Both play same notes on different instruments. Sometimes one after the other sometimes synchronized.
@OurStupidReactions Thank you guys for reacting to this video of the Legends. That is why I believe Indian music cannot be compared with any other type of music. The instruments & musicians carry soul in each piece of art. This is divine experience from the land of yoga so club all that together & you will be high for life. Keep reacting to more videos. Lots of respect from Kuwait.
Thankyou guys you revived the classical music in me and I am determined to let my daughters learn it. Namaskaram.
Korbin Rick none of that is scripted or rehearsed. Almost none of indian classical concerts are rehearsed. Thats the difference between a master guru and just a performer.
This is the power of classical instruments. No matter wherever its playing your hand and head just match with waves. And goes along
It’s called MADNESS.. wow 😮
Yes, i often say it to my friends, these legends are MAD, MAD at a transcendental level we can't even think of.
They played raga, all Indian music based on raga
Arya stark's and the faceless man's theme uses Santoor
