Biodiversity in the CHIMEI Green Energy Park - Gifts of the Sun | CHIMEI

An idle factory lot in Shanhua District, Tainan City was transformed into CHIMEI Green Energy Park with a ground-mounted solar power plant of 15MW capacity, which was inaugurated in August 2020. In the hope of preserving as many trees as possible while generating electricity, CHIMEI adopted green construction technique for steel structure foundations instead of traditional reinforced concrete foundations, and to avoid asphalt paving of any sort throughout the park. With over 20,000 trees in the park, we minimized environmental impacts with photosynthesis to reduce greenhouse gases through sequestration for trees and solar panels to fully absorb Tainan’s abundant sunlight.
As natural ecology is its most valuable resource, we work with a team from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology to survey flora, fauna, and soil properties to monitor changes and launch conservation projects in the park. The results showed a rich ecology in the 40-hectare park: 282 species of flora and 282 species of fauna, soil in forests and solar panel areas free of heavy metal pollution. Specialists who led the project praised us for “offering a shelter for animal and plant species in highly-developed plain”.
Positive results of the year-long survey were very encouraging. We will continue to collaborate with National Pingtung University of Science and Technology to comprehensively monitor species twice a year and build certain habitats to increase stability and accessibility.
