Hi, Alex! I just wanted to thank you. I got my first job as a Data Analyst and your content helped me a lot. Please keep doing this amazing videos.
Congratulations!! So awesome to hear!
Congrats man!
Great to hear ❤️
By the way by which company have you been hired?
@@maliksalman1907 A3 Data Consultoria, Its a Brazilian data consultant company, I am sure you don't know but it's a great company at my country.
Olá Luís, from a fellow countryman, congrats on your first job. I'm also looking for my first job. Can we get in touch? I'd love to get some tips from you.
Hey Alex,
I found your channel about a year now. I took most to the project with you. Created a profile for myself shared with with employers. I got a job with of one the biggest real estate firms in Nigeria as a Research Analyst. I am back for more 😊
Thank you, Alex.
Congratulations Dachun, can u share your linkedIn id
Congratulations bro! Please can we connect?
Congratulations! I’m from Nigeria as well, can we connect?
Nice can we connect.
I love that you didn't overprepare and explained your thinking process when dealing with problems that occurred. This is more valuable than having it all planned out in advance.
Really glad to hear that! I've always tried to include the issues I get along the way - we all run into them! :D
yes you are absolutely right
Agreed!
Exactly, this is another thing I love so much about this video. He made it look so real like I am doing it and thinking on what to do next. Thank you again Alex.
Am getting error in the date column, i believe changing the date format to dd/mm/yyyy would make it work.. but could pls tell how to change the date format
I was getting that error too, I didnt found how to fix it, but I ignored it because we don't need to use it on this project
@@VitorAbreu1001 Thank you I've been having the same issue and spent a while trying to fix it using Chat GPT. I was raging at my pc until I saw your comment that we don't even need the column and that we can ignore it. I stupidly didn't think to skip ahead through the video to check if we did need the column.
@@89rm I know how stressful that must have been! Im glad i helped you! Good luck on the rest of your work brother, you can do it!
@@VitorAbreu1001 oof thank you so so much i had the same issue
When the table loads into Power Query, the software attempts to change data types to what it considers appropriate. The error is because of the different date formats. Go to the applied steps section on the right and delete the change type step.
Hi Alex,
I am from India. When I decided to switch my career as a Data Analyst, I don't have any clue where to start. But once I started watching your videos I understood I am in a right place. Thank you very much for your efforts. I really enjoyed working with this real time data. I appreciate it.
At 14:45 how do I unfilter. When I try to do it, it does not return to the previous version. It only contains the 225
I'm having the same issue as well
yes same thing with me also
Just go to the history tab and delete that action. For some unknown reason, the recent power query has that bug
bless u
Hi Alex, thanks for your video. Could you please explain how you removed the filter after replacing the '+' in the duplicated salary column? I did what you showed in the video but could not get the entire values in the column back. I can't un-filter the column.
Justice for this comment please
16:11 U can just select both columns and then go to "Add column" -> "Statistics" -> "Average". It will insert a new average column.
This "Statistics* -> "Average" where we should write in a new column name or custom column name @hieuPham-dh2qk
I can't thank you enough Alex for what you are doing to help the Data community. You bring so much valuable insight and knowledge to so many people all across the world. Please continue to do what you do, you are extremely valuable to so many!! Your videos are a huge reason why I decided to make the career change to Data Analytics. Now, if I could just land my first role, that would be the icing on the cake!!
Hi Alex, In the 15th minute of your video, where you replace the value of x with 225 and then bring back the entire column back to its original form, I'm not able to do that as in my case it stays at 225 and does not display the other values, need some help
36:30 You can go into visualisations, format visuals, under visual select detail labels, then select values. "Value decimal places" will change the decimals to however many you want to display. I usually set it to 2 ;)
Hi Alex, did my first project from this and it was fun and satisfying, might not be perfect. You make learning interesting and I am stuck with you ❤
Thanks man, somehow when I follow the tutorial somethings wrong in the new column. Your method shows the correct answer I want.
Hi Alex, I really appreciate you uploading thisPower BI guided project video, very helpful! However, at 14:45 when I clicked select all (with the 225 part) and clicked ok, I only got 2 rows and could not get back/show the rest of the data. Can you let me know how can I fix it? I've redone the steps 3+ times already and same results. Thanks!
Same issue !! @Alex
Same issue here, did you get any assistance?

@albertliu7103 I got the same error. The way around this is do not filter by the + only . Instead1. Select the entire data set for "Current Yearly Salary" column 2. Right click and select "Replace Values" and put Value to Find = + Replace with value = 225 and then hit Ok. You should be able to see a total of 15 records/rows come up with the "225" value when you filter which includes the 2 rows that had +. Hope this helps.

After I replaced + with 225 now I’m unable to get the main column. How do I remove the filter ?
Need help on this as well
Hey. At 15:37 , you can just go to Applied Steps and drag the Added Custom step below the Changed Type3 step and that will automatically fix the errors. Thanks for this awesome project!
Hi Alex, thank you for making this video. It was really helpful. Can you please help me find the detailed project (a much more in-depth data-cleaning version of it) that you said you were going to do using this dataset? After watching this, I am very interested in learning what else can be done with this dataset and how can we clean it even more. Can I have the link to that project video if you made it coz I can't find it?
Have you gotten the link to the video ?
@@adesoyetomiwa3892 nope
I just mimiced all you said and made my first Dashboard. Thanks a million for your kind explanation.
At about 14:44 when you click back on select all for some reason the reason of my rows do not appear. I have redone this twice. not sure what I am doing wrong
Having the same issues as well today, how'd you fix it?
Hello Alex, Thanks for making Power BI very easy like the way you made in Excel & SQL 😊 I created this project on my own and am looking forward to your project with DAX functions as you said about in one of the videos that will do something for 2hours. If you already did that add into the playlist or do it if you have some moment in your schedule 🤗 Thanks again for all the great lessons !
Hello Alex, thank tous very much for a well explained context.
But I have been following this project tutorial. I got stock after filtering the plus(+) sign. When I unfilter just like you, I could not get the data back like it has displaying for you. When I go back to unfilter, I have only value 225 showing.
Again, I noticed that in ur steps after replacing value 2, your steps include "Removed column4", " Add Column1", "Removed Column5". Would appreciate some level of assistance at that level. Thank you..
I'm stuck on that too
Same here, redid the steps 3+ times and still can't see original data...
@@albertliu7103 same here
There is definitely something shady going on there. As you can see on the right hand side applied steps pane, as soon as he clicks on the select all, 3 additional steps appear instead of 1. Some steps have been edited out. I found a workaround as I was also stuck here. Basically, you just create another applied step and in the formula tab paste this: = Table.ReplaceValue(#"Replaced Value1","+","225",Replacer.ReplaceText,{"Q3 - Current Yearly Salary (in USD) - Copy.2"}) Make sure you replace the Replace Value 1 with the name of the last step in the action pane if it is different. This formula will replace the + with 225 and keep all other values intact.
Hi Alex, how can I show the Power Bi project on my personal project website?
Hello Alex, can you please do a tutorial on how to publish the PowerBI dashboard on web for free. Thank you!
at 18:28 you didn't tell us how to go back to the power query editor when we need to change anything, like for example to split the country column
you didn't show* us how
Please can you send me the file used? Tried downloading it vai the link but isn't going.
Thank you so much for the great videos. I admire your composure and fluency in teaching. You are not just a teacher but a leader. See you at the top Alex! Have a pleasant day 🙏
Thank you so much for this video Alex!, I followed the project from beginning to end and created my own dashboard
Hi Alex, thanks for all you do.

Hi I met the same problem. Did you solve it?
Same problem for me also
Great tutorial! Thanks! Is there a way to publish from Power BI without a license like you can with Tableau Public? Curious how people display their projects in their portfolios.
28:46 HOW DOES TREE MAP IS CHANGING VALUES OF EVERY OTHER DATA
Just posting here incase anyone else runs into this error. Another error that you may run into when combining the data in the “Current Yearly Salary” columns into the “Average Salary” column is Expression.Error: We cannot apply operator / to types List and Number.
To get around this error, you will need to calculate the”Average Salary” value in a two step process.
Step 1: Create a custom column to hold the values from adding Column A + Column B Table.AddColumn(#"Filtered Rows1", "Custom.1", each [#"Q3 - Current Yearly Salary (in USD) - Copy.1"]+[#"Q3 - Current Yearly Salary (in USD) - Copy.2"])
Step 2: Create a custom column to hold the final Average Salary value which is the total of Column A + Column B/2
= Table.AddColumn(#"Added Custom7", "Custom.2", each [Custom.1]/2)
Hope this helps
more detail thanks. not understand
Hi, ALex. I have few questions?
1. How to show my tableau, powerbi, excel project? I meant How do I show recruiter my powerbi and tableau project.
2. Do my project need to be an end-to-end project where I should be using a single dataset showing data manipulation using SQL and then export it to tableau or powerbi for creating dashboard. Is it okay to have SQL project, tableau and powerbi project different from one another.
3. I have difficulties while solving complex SQL queries. I need lot of time to solve complex queries. In beginner level role, how much complex queries I need to prepare for interview. Do interviewers ask complex queries to solve in live interview or give complex queries as task or assignment to solve?
4. how do I know I am ready to sit for powerbi and tableau interview? I meant how much do I need to know about powerbi and tableau to sit for an interview.
Did anyone get an error in the Date Taken column? seems the downloaded data is a little bit different than in the video.
yeah i am facing the same issue looks it should be 10/6/2022 instead of 6/10/2022. BTW were you able to solve this issue?

what happend after 14.40 ?once after you selected all in that column 3 of yearly salary, not able to folllw on after it
I love this playlist you created on Power BI. I really love the final project you used; using professional survey. However, you didn't show how to publish our dashboard. I'm new in the field.
Thanks Alex. I'm trying to learn data visualisation to complement my job skills and this really helps 👊

Hi Ajay, Did u got a job?
@@manojjagdale6517 Searching for new challenge.
there is an error in date taken column.. ....how to remove that or solve that
At 13:39 to remove the minus "--" and "k" it's simpler to just highlight Q3 Current Yearly Salary, Split Column by Delimeter, Custom is the minus"-", use each occurrence then ok. This will create only 2 columns. One with 106k the 1st half and the 2nd with 125k the 2nd half. Highlight the column and right click to find replace value. The value to find will be k, Replace with just leave blank and your done in fewer steps.
thats what i did to, don't know why he did it in a round about way

How did you get it fixed??
@@Loedairy Alex filtered the copy2 column. I filtered copy1 column intstead of cop2 column and then I replaced the + values on copy2 column and ıt worked .I recommend you to try it.
@furkaneren but it affects all rows both copy and original, so how do you then get back to the original number of rows. Not sure I understand
An error I encountered while importing this data was Power bi was trying to parse in the dates in my locale format (DMY), but the CSV had them in MDY format. By converting them through the 'text to columns' feature under 'Data' tab in excel, I could fix the issue and successfully import (you'll get a parsing error otherwise). Hopefully this saves some people some confusion.
hi everyone! I know this video is from a year ago, but if there happens to be a person who actively is watching this, I could use some help! At the 14:45 mark, there is a cut where it goes from having "Replaced Value2" in the Applied Steps, then goes to having "Added Custom", "Removed Columns4", "Added Custom 1" and "Removed Columns5" in the Applied Steps. If anyone could explain (in beginner terms lol) how he got from one step to another, I would be super appreciative!
Thanks for this series Alex! You've mentioned on this last video of the series that you're going to revisit this on a higher level. I tried looking for it but couldn't find it. Any chance I missed it?

Just go on the applied steps and delete the filtered row step from there. You will see all the values then.
Alex whats your thoughts on performing the PQ ETL in excel vs PBI? I tend to always do the ETL in the excel file if thats the data source.
I'm with you on this. Excel has its benefits in some instances. I guess it depends how many rows you are working with, especially if the data is pulled from a data warehouse originally
