We lived in Meifod for hundreds of years then my Grandfather got a job as a mill manager in Middelton Road. That was 1959. We used to visit the town. It was Victorian and Edwardian. The railway shutdown. Coal was burnt. Towns were grimy. The countryside had ancient locals not commuting refugees from big cities. I went into the printing press on a school excursion. The whole area was a post industrial landscape. I preferred the quiet woods and ancient past to the alienated masses in towns and cities.
