    Congratulations on developing and releasing the aviation conversion of this engine. I’d expect some builders will be interested in it for the Ultracruiser and other experimental aircraft too. Two questions…(1) What are the HP and torque ratings of this v-twin? and (2) What company is the original manufacturer of it? It looks like it might be a Briggs & Stratton or a HF Predator conversion.

      Thank you for your questions. HP is enough to fly the UC. We have not put it on a dynamometer. Horse power is estimated to be between 35-40 based on calculations and compared performance with other engines. Original manufacturer is HP Predator 670.

      if you know the prop diameter and pitch, and engine rpm, 4200 engine 2359 prop, you can calculate the hp, the didnt reveal the diameter and pitch. its not 35 to 40

    I would love to see this engine sold as a kit where we buy the unmodified engine ourselves and then buy a kit and guide from hummel to build it ourselves.

      The price tracks. A basic HF predator engine is $1,000. But a Vangaurd or Kohler is $2,000. PSRU's are around $1,000. (See ACE Redrived). Forged connecting rods are going to be $100 apiece, unless custom. Then probably $1,000 for two. Exhausts are $200. Flywheel delete requires new custom carrier for charging system, and magnets for CDi spark, etc. it adds up. I doubt a builder could do all of this for less than $3,000. The additional is of course labor/profit. Each motor probably has 8-10 manhours into it. When items are selling maybe 1 per month, and light commercial hangar shops rent for $2,500/mo. People gotta find a way to stay in business. People have a right to profit from their efforts. I don't see anyone offering something similar for less. How 'bout you?

    You should make an exhaust that has 6 outlets down each pipe to make people do a double take! 😁

    What is theV-Twin fuel burn at your 3100 cruise RPM??? What is the HP at 4200 RPM??? Have you used it in a Pusher configuration ???

    Anyone else nervous about placing your safety in the hands of an engine from Harbor Freight?

    • @kylegoldston
      @kylegoldston Рік тому +6

      No, I'm nervous about placing my safety in the hands of someone who would sell it for over $5k.

      670 Predator engine is very solid. Can handle upwards of 5000rpm when rebuilt using the billet rods and lightweight billet flywheel. High compression pistons and cam will also help. If build right can output 50hp for takeoff, 40hp for cruise. Check out Red Beard's Garage UA-cam channel.

      Built a few of these for 4 wheeler projects and a extremely modified EZ-Go golf cart conversion and the motors are pretty solid up to 4200-4500 with stock innards. Replace the exhaust and intake box with something less restrictive and they easily put out 25-28HP if you dial the carb jets. 1.06mm is what I pair them with and a 3D printed mixer spacer between the carb and intake manafoldish thingy. I'm looking at building one for about 40-45hp for a SD-1 homebuilt plane.

      Yea, all the parts mentioned might run you another $1000 over the original $1000 price tag.. Maybe..

    I have a generac 999cc v-twin engine similar to this but not considering aircraft use because of the Harley-Davidson like imbalance of the type. Going instead w 400cc parallel twin Cayuna at half the weight similar power and fuel comsumption.

    Did I hear you say you needed basic med to fly the H5? If it’s a LSA all you need is a sport pilot license which only requires a Drivers License

    • @hummelaircraft
      @hummelaircraft  2 роки тому

      Basic med is required for private and above. The H5 can be flown under sport pilot and that needs drivers license.

    • @hummelaircraft

      We estimate around 35hp which is ok for the Ultracruiser. Not sure about fitness for duty in other airframes.
