    Alright, it's time to contact everybody involved to release the definitive cut of Son of The Mask. It's clear there's material that wasn't in the final product but it could easily be reedited and released for everyone to see. Especially with this movie, it's clearly meant to be darkly PG-13 but was heavily reduced to a wacky PG cartoon. Although the original source material is darker, there could be changes to achieve the potential that was intended. Everything that was historically ruined could finally be redeemed if this version finally exists. Oh, and let's not forget Malibu's Most Wanted because if possible I hope there's an unseen R-rated cut with more footage. With the universe of streaming, and nostalgia, there's no reasons to not to.

      Well said, and I agree. I would love to see a definitive (and re-mastered) cut. This could have been something really great based on what Jamie is saying was shot, and how New Line forced them to edit it to take that stuff out.
      Either that, or Jamie and the director should take a crack at making a true adaptation of the original comic book, and go for a straight up R-rated horror comedy of The Mask.

      Speaking of movies that need a remake, there was so much squandered potential in Baby Geniuses. For every good idea, it’s squandered by horrible CGI, horrible visuals, and it felt like 4 drafts in, they just gave up. It needed more time. It could’ve been a nature vs nurture thing about a home daycare taken over by a cooperation run by Kathleen Turner & Christopher Lloyd. But rather than any of that- Bob Clark wanted to make a Roger rabbit reunion film, couldn’t get the rights, but and so wanted to do a rugrats movie- but that fell through. So many concepts- but so much squandered potential! The Christmas Story guy has since lost his mojo.

    Adding “Part 3” to the video title would help your viewing numbers. I almost thought this was the first part, which I’ve already seen, and moved on. Also, it’ll increase views on the other videos. Seeing “Part 3” will trigger someone to think “Oh, this means there are two other parts,” and they’ll go watch those first.

    I'll never forget when they brought us over to the main lot (Warner) and screened a WIP print for me and my editor. I was with Kids' WB at the time and we were being asked to do a complete Saturday morning tie-in with the film, and I had to produce a ton of segments using our characters. In the end, a couple of those spots won Promax Awards, so not all bad, but the film was just... not good. Thanks for doing these videos!

  • @zwright19

    I can see the heart in this movie. When you learn the signs you start really seeing when a movie is just warped from it's original intent. After watching this video, I desperately want to see a directors cut. I think Snyder proved to us all that a movie can be so much more than what we see the first go around.

    • @KiriakosVilchez
      @KiriakosVilchez 2 роки тому

      But the production on Justice League and Son of the Mask are not the same kind of beast. Snyder was pulled away less than halfway through and Whedon came in and shuffled stuff around. Not to mention multiple reshoots and rewrites of the script.
      Guterman was in charge the entire time during filming of this movie and the stuff the studio cut out or kept in was all him. I can appreciate the need to see a better version of this movie, but it's probably worse. Jamie is a good actor but this was not the role for him regardless of how wacky this production became with editing or tone or whatnot. Unless there's some amazing screenplay of Son of the Mask locked up with Guterman penning funnier stuff than what he did in Cats & Dogs or Kennedy completely becomes as animated as Carrey was in the first film, I feel like Jamie teasing that version is wrong. This movie was destined to be a bomb the moment Carrey refused to come back for a sequel and they decided to come up with this abomination.

  • @Do_i_amuse_you
    @Do_i_amuse_you 2 роки тому +8

    I feel like this movie would have bomb no matter what. Just because it was a follow-up to a Jim Carrey movie. Imagine if Jamie knew about a another comic character named Deadpool back then.

    Man, I love this. I find the making of complete flops just as interesting, sometimes even moreso, as the making of classics. I'd never have guessed that this was a butchered editing job, I had always assumed that they had set out to make it as loud and fast and annoying as possible. Shame, as it sounds like the original cut would have at least fixed a couple of the biggest problems.

    I'm telling you this as a manager -- I love you Jamie but you can't convince me this movie would have been good. To be honest I think you should have fired your agent who put you on this project. A lot of people didn't see the 1st season of the Jamie Kennedy project and only saw you as Randy from Scream and as you know, perception is reality. In my opinion what they should have done is built you up and branded you as a comedian with 2 or 3 comedy movies under your belt and then put you in The Son of the Mask. The audience wasn't ready to see you in this role.

    You didn't come off as a normal guy. You came off as a five year old in this movie.

    Great video brother. Such nostalgia. If you can post a video about making “Bowfinger” I’d love it. One of my favorite comedies.

    No Jamie. Don’t ever release any cut. Let it go and chalk up for a huge life lesson. Including (I would assume) In the EGO department. & respect for that life lesson being in the public. The nature of the biz.

    I'm such a big fan of his. I have to say Randy is one of my favorite characters in Scream. I love the scene where he is on the couch watching Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis and he's telling the TV to look behind you and Ghostface is standing right behind him. He should react to that scene next

    Jamie, I gotta know. What led up to the decision to ADR your mask dialogue with that accent? Thank you thank you

    Reminds me of what happened to the super Mario Bros movie it kept changing throughout. That also had a Gotham tone aswell. Great stuff Jamie! Great insight. One day you will see my name attached to a project....no matter the budget.....I just have a great story on my hands right now I want to make!
