In addition to one-shotting hammerheads the retaliator can kill an Idris in one run with 5-6 torps, helps a lot with critical threats/arlington gang mission
Ai Idris is insanely neutered it uses insanely components that are so bad even players can't get them in game and the ai Idris also has much less hull hp, it might take 2x or 3x more missiles to take down an Idris
I always thought of the Retaliator as a submarine. I really hope we get that kind of stealth/counterstealth gameplay for big ships like this. The dream is that in the future, moving your organization's capital ship would really require the full naval fleet shit, constant rotations of patrols, logistics, scouts, etc - because who knows if a couple of these things and a forward observer might be lurking, ghosting you, waiting for the right time to strike. Necessitating states of high alertness, for extended periods & ships, just so you can get a couple hundred people into a position where you can then project that power, just like an actual fleet. It would actually be very boring for everyone, but that's the kind of coordination and organisation I think it should take to field a fleet including capital ships - this is real End-Game content. Owning a Capital ship should be the easiest thing about using one.
i don't want star citizen to become exclusive to the chronically online. it shouldn't turn into WoW levels of time investment. you should be able to go to certain systems, park your capital ship somewhere in the middle of nowhere on a planet, have a beacon set to share to your org only, and leave the ship, with an almost certain chance nobody's going to stumble upon it unless someone in the org rats it out. i dont want to have owning a capital ship devolve into a paranoid, schizo game of cat and mouse, that would suck and i would quit the game. if you want to play a game where you're constantly stressed that you're going to lose hundreds of house of progress, and need to plan more than actually play, play EVE online. games are supposed to be a break.
CS missiles are not impervious to countermeasures since the CM rework in 3.12 when they removed flares/chaff and replaced them with decoys and noise that works completely different.
They're not immune to CMs... chaff is a thing. You can see that the first one was decoyed... AND he is using the Argos by default. And they do the least damage of the S9 options. The biggest bonus to them is that they can lock on down to 1km, instead of 2400m
I would suggest that you change out the torpedos to the Seekers and wait to launch at 4000 meters, I have had a 100% hit rate with those torps and launching at 4000 meters. This works on Hurricanes, Vanguards, Valks and Hammerheads, and it is so much fun to just fly in launch the torp and just fly by the target as they go boom and just laugh my way to the next one :P

When i use my Eclipse i just blast at the target full speed and lock on, drop the Torp at 3km or closer, and its a 99% hitrate. But i switched to Seeker IX ( EM torpedo ). Also i dont "aim" center mass but slighly more towards the tip of the enemy ship. If it moves, the torp has to move barely at all, and if it doesnt just a little. Might be helpful but i cant really tell.
I’m excited for future clan wars, in 30-40 years when it’s possible lolll. For some reason, ever since I discovered Star Citizen back in 2015-16, I’ve fallen in love with the idea of having a universe somewhere between Star Citizen’s game infrastructure and Eve Online’s organic economy.
Makes me miss my tali, I melted it for a warden. I got reeeeally tired of having to crash/claim it to re-stock the missiles. Best part of the tali is you technically get 7 missles (6 on-board tops + the tali once your out of ammo! It's only 15k to file a claim which is still cheaper than a restock!) Ollie, why not ask CIG why they haven't added the 4x bespoke vanguard style guns on the nose, like in all the in-game posters. I mean it would give base model pilots some (all be it false) reassurance that they can defend their future neutered ship!
For a solo player, looking to run up the BH PvE ladder from VLRT up, would I be better off grabbing this today or the eclipse? Some additional consideration to future uses also. I know the modular stuff is not in game yet but eventually. Thank you
The retaliatory actually has two different missile racks so I keep four argos and two seeker missiles so I can shoot in the asteroid field. Also I usually shoot between 1-3.5km away from the target. Great vid
I think it is the frosting effect, much like how your suit frost over. The restocking is hit or miss on a few few factors like ship, station, alinement on the hanger pad. Olli's got that touchy hair trigger, when he get "Excited" !🤣LOL
This ship is one sexy beast. For a long while I had one, but when realizing I didn't see being able to load it up with players (friends or org mates), more so when the server cap was 20-25 people, I realistically CCU'd it to something else. The look of it and the sound of it though, just legendary. I'd love to earn one in-game or I might grab a CCU for it to hold onto until it can get updated/reworked with the newer gold pass.
Nice, enjoying this in 21x9. I've noticed though (through the youtube nerd stats) if I set the resolution to 1440p on UA-cam the video is only 2560x1066. So to fill my 3440x1440 monitor optimally I set the video to 4k. Which results in 3860x1600 sized down to my monitor resolution. Lol, what I'm trying to say: When you watch a regular 16x9 video, the 1440p setting of youtube is alright (2560x1440). But with the 21x9 ratio, I rather want to scale down from UHD than up from only 2560x1066.
That ship is awesome, hitched a ride with someone and its extremely OP it really needs to attack capital ships with those torpedoes, but like all multi crew ships its going to be formidable only when there is more than one person in it. I actually want one, but its a lot of credits to grind, rather have the M2 or MSR
For information torpedoes start at size 4 and the Argos 9 are not those with the more damage but they are cross section targeting so much more difficult to avoid.

Especially DCS when we do a legit 7hour flying mission and I have to work right after mission ends, lol. But hopefully my friends are still playing. They bought the most expensive ships in the game, and have lots of gear to give to me, but some weapons are bugged out. So I don’t know what I can and cannot do, lol. If you have 2 talis you can scuttle one of them when its out of misiles, slow claim it & leave in the other. After that repeat the process you'll never have to pay for missiles or repairs again but you need the initial investment of 2 Talis.
The missile reload bug was bad on my Eclipse especially when I was running Typhoon 9s for Xeno Threat. The prices for torps used to be worse, Typhoons were like 11k each shot so only worth it on some missions and Xeno Threat. To clear the bug you store ship and open your vehicle loadout and repick/save the torps and it will spawn loaded. It is also an item duplication/corruption bug. I was so glad they flushed inventory I had almost 1000 torps duplicated but un-selectable in the loadout app taking up menu slots to scroll and find ones that worked. I had stopped flying the Eclipse for a while once I realized it was dup-bugging and making it lag. My Connie sometimes does it on a random rack. Haven't flown my missile boats since 3.17.0 Ill have to try them out again.
A bit of an underhanded trick with the restocking. Unload everything off the ship that needs to be unloaded, then fly a bit off the a station and then hit the self destruct. Not only does that restock your missiles but also refuels. It does take time for the return on insurance but you can do other missions while you wait.
Ok after a few months of watching your vids I finally caved and paid to get into the game. Just did the cheapest starter package but I'm in. Thanks for all the great vids and temptation that I just eventually could not say no to.
I upgraded to this ship back in 2015 but then got it upgraded to a Hull E. What I find interesting about the Retaliator is that its size and interior space reflects how CIG were imagining big ships back then. Now it feels very cramped and ''narrow'', almost claustrophobic in a way. It's still one of the sexiest ships in the verse and quite reminiscent of the real life B2 bomber.
You asked what is our favourite moon. My favourite moon is Arial. The colours are gorgeous, and the surface is interesting, full of rocks and craters and undulations. Sunset is also beautiful on Arial.
Hopefully this ship sees some love soon. There are what look like 6 lockers I'd like to ge able to use for external storage and there's a mounting bug as well that will kick you out the top of the ship. Do not jump while standing on the ladder with back facing beds. Your character will mount and pop you out the top.
The retaliator is actually getting a rework since they scratched the idea of having airlocks at the top/bottom and are moving them to the sides for ship to station docking.
Just to make shure you can do ERT cause you have 6 s9 torpedo and a HH is one shot by s9 torpedo Also you shot your torpedo a bit to soon, if you shoot your torpedo at 4000 it will always hit
Best strat for higher hit rate that i use in both the tali and eclipse. Lock on target with torp. Fly at them at 550m/s drop torp at 2800m (2.8km). And full speed straight pass. Dead before they even know you are there
I am still amazed at how much work went into the interface so that they can show less relevant information than they had in 1.0... Seriously, compare it. It's not even close. It was so easy! Upper left: My ship. Upper right: Target. Lower left: EM-Sig. Lower right: Thermal-Sig. Middle left: Weapon status. Center: Movement and countermeasures. Now you have to put all that stuff to MFDs, which aren't even in your FOV most of the time. Hell, every single fighter jet built in the last 40 years has a more useful HUD than ships in SC. Why'd they scatter relevant information all over the cockpit?
For someone who's only ever played NMS. Would you recommend this over NMS? I know they're 2 different entities - but w/ a low budget I'm on the fence on this. The immersive experience is what I'm after for long term streaming
If you have a computer that can run this well, I find SC much more long term appealing than NMS, and it only ever gets better as more gameplay loops come online in the new patches every 3 months.
It entirely depends on what your looking for. SC is time intensive, but that adds to it's immersion imo. You may not be able to do as much right now, but the updates planned even in the next 6 months to a year should(hopefully) add much needed game loops beyond combat. NMS has much of it's loops fleshed out compared, but SC has depth to it's loops that are extremely hands on. Mining isn't just "shoot laser at rock, get resources" ,but "fire laser at rock, monitor level of laser power to get the sweet spot for long enough, crack the rock apart, and redo the laser cracking for smaller pieces sweet spots, then extract from those cracked rocks. This is just an example of what CIG is going for. There are bugs aplenty, but if you can laugh it off, and you'll need to, then give it a shot.
@@edwarddomenico9601 thank you. I only maybe played NMS for a few hrs and got bored after finally repairing my ship and having no fwends to game with. This will be the same. But I’m looking for more immersive experiences. And this seems to have massive potential.

The size 9 torpedoes on that can kill anything I seen people take out Idris with 3 or 4 torpedoes don't know if they buffed it or not. By the way the closer you are too them to fire the better chances you have for them to not have time to react anything around 4 or 3.5k is a good
Wiki says 30k range, but you don't generally see the target.... based on what you did, and the very very slightly drop the torpedo gets, I think 7-8k is probably the best range to fire at.
Ok. Since you asked: Daymar isn't my favourite moon. My favourite Moon is Yela, because I love watching the ring system around it from the surface. I hope that we will have habitable planets with such ring systems in the future as well. I'd love to buy a small condo there and do some fishing while watching the rings.

So are the torpedoes running out of speed because it don't seem they are throwing counters or actually dodging the missiles and they are supposed to have a lock and fire at 30k right
Torps and missiles will auto destruct after 10km. Usually its better to shoot them much closer, but he's firing them beyond their max range, so they're just wasted. You can LOCK 30km away, but, its just a pretty light that explodes on its own when you launch from more than 10km out.
I've faced a few bugs reloading my Eclipse with size 9s... sometimes I could only load 1 or 2 torpedos though it's true. But Rule Number one is, always shoot between 4800-5000 Meters in range and you'll hit 100% of the times.
Cost of Torps can be prohibitive if not right loadout! Sometimes useful to have a friend to distract.. Also diff types of Torps give diff results, My pref EM Size 9's Would use other ships missiles rather then size nines on the ships you are targeting, VHRT's not worth Tally, ERT's and Idris etc then yeah. IMO.
The thing I do when on the dark side of a planet and i'm not sure how close to the ground I am is ping the radar. It at least will give you a general idea and will keep you from crashing.
These Torpedos are, im guessing, for rather big chunky Targets? Thats my assumption after playing a few space-games in the past. Are there missions, where such a Ship with its massive torpedos are needed? It does have a slim Body, so it will be hard to notice, but its still a Bomber, not a Fighter.
Yes there are some uses for it, but not a ton. Those hammerheads he's shooting down have a ton of anti fighter turrets. The average player has to wildly strafe around one for like 15 minutes to bring it down. Theres also a capital class ship worth a ton that is designed for a team to fight, but this ship can take it out with a full salvo provided the torpedos all hit
The next jump town event can you blow up the Idris, you probably have some people in game or chat that will join in their own, it will be so awesome ordination for a video that will be wild!! One commenter said it takes 5-6 torps
ive been going full speed just above the target and start launching at 3.6km and by the time i hit 2.6km its launched and i am turning to launch other torps as needed using Seeker IXs
One of things I don't understand about this game , so what is all about ... All the UA-camrs post is vids of ships .. So is a ship collecting game ? what happens to your ship when it blows up ? do you lost it forever ? Just wondering if its really worth spending real $$$$ to play ..
There’s insurance in game and most ships are easily earned with play time(in theory, see below), eventually they want insurance to be apart of gameplay but for now anything you buy with $$ or ingame, just respawn it when you die But here’s two additional things to note: With game wipes etc, what spending $$$ really does is mean get that ship no matter what is wiped and in theory upon more finished build of the game, will start with it. Also some kind of racket they run with “life time insurance” to FOMO people more, as if when game ships they’d ever live down NOT having quasi life time Insurance on all ships, like backers and new players would be livid and yes, they fully intend to sell ships post “release” in some form or another And Ships can be earned in game but statement this is essentially a ship collecting game isn’t far from wrong; there are barely zero fully functional gameplay loops making actually earning ships in game a very frustrating task while game remains in alpha stage with crashes, server failures etc All in all, imho, for this and many other reasons, no this game is not worth spending $$$ on right now but hopefully once sort ALOT of things out, it will be one day

The PERFECT distance to fire a Torpedo is 4200 meters. 420. Squadron 42. It’s developer code insider stuff…. Coders love their numbers!
Always thought you should be able to swap out the torp's for Moab's. Certainly make Jump town more interesting with a fleet of these knocking about.
The Retaliator is Star Citizens version of a nuclear sub/destroyer all rolled up into one.
Nice to see the Space B-1 in action.
Olli, I recommend approaching the target at 400m/s and launch torp at 3k.
The retaliator is actually getting a rework since they scratched the idea of having airlocks at the top/bottom and are moving them to the sides for ship to station docking.
I actually like the bottom one. It's useful for getting out of the ship quickly.
How do you get the missile camera? What button is it?
10:37, I had that bug made me kill yesterday, glad to see that I'm not the only one having this bug :D
What is your FOV in this video? it looks huge. Kinda making me want to up mine... normally play around 90.
Hey I thought the pilot in the Retaliator couldn't fire those torps by themselfs? Is it possible now?!!
I had no idea there's a missile cam
Used to be in game, they took it out.
It's back in but unbound by default.
Can you use it as a heavy fighter or strike fighter?
Just to make shure you can do ERT cause you have 6 s9 torpedo and a HH is one shot by s9 torpedo
Also you shot your torpedo a bit to soon, if you shoot your torpedo at 4000 it will always hit
also, not sure if you have noticed, the hammerhead will shoot the torps out of the sky sometimes, thats why closer is better
Daymar is my favorite moon because of Tatooine vibe. Plus canyons are cool for low fly and there's cave too.
Cool video. I'm still a newbie to star cit. So my question may be stupid. How to set the camera on the rocket. Thks a lot 🙂
Best strat for higher hit rate that i use in both the tali and eclipse. Lock on target with torp. Fly at them at 550m/s drop torp at 2800m (2.8km). And full speed straight pass. Dead before they even know you are there
It reminds me of a futuristic B1 Lancer bomber and it's stealth brother the eclipse is the B2 spirit think that's what they try to go for
I am still amazed at how much work went into the interface so that they can show less relevant information than they had in 1.0...
How do you make the camera follow the torpedo?
This ship is the most beautiful ship in the entire game
@@TonViper thank you. I got the $45 package 😃
@@edwarddomenico9601 thank you.
I only maybe played NMS for a few hrs and got bored after finally repairing my ship and having no fwends to game with.
This will be the same. But I’m looking for more immersive experiences. And this seems to have massive potential.
@@l.o.r.e.6981 My number one thing for any newbie is to ask in chat, at least in SC. No question is stupid and you'll have most everybody on the server trying to help. We're a welcoming bunch, for sure.
The size 9 torpedoes on that can kill anything I seen people take out Idris with 3 or 4 torpedoes don't know if they buffed it or not. By the way the closer you are too them to fire the better chances you have for them to not have time to react anything around 4 or 3.5k is a good
What's you pc parts do your pc have to run star citizen
Wiki says 30k range, but you don't generally see the target.... based on what you did, and the very very slightly drop the torpedo gets, I think 7-8k is probably the best range to fire at.
Ok. Since you asked:
Daymar isn't my favourite moon.
My favourite Moon is Yela, because I love watching the ring system around it from the surface.
I hope that we will have habitable planets with such ring systems in the future as well. I'd love to buy a small condo there and do some fishing while watching the rings.
Clio, Wala, or Calliope... I can't decide.
@@vorpalrobot Your post is missing the "why". :P
@@animusnocturnus7131 Clio for the pink sunset and green skies, Calliope for the soft lighting due to frozen atmo, and Wala just cuz the green gems and airless night sky full of stars.
@@vorpalrobot Those are some damn good reasons.
Scratches are from using the wrong cleaner and a paper towel. Vinegar and Newspaper works best :) 16:42
The number of times he launches at greater than 5 km is quite hilarious. That lack of self control, haha.
I most definitely want to play with you as the crew cause it’s boring playing by myself but I love the game that much
How do you follow the torpedo like that torpedo view i dont know how to do that
So are the torpedoes running out of speed because it don't seem they are throwing counters or actually dodging the missiles and they are supposed to have a lock and fire at 30k right
Torps and missiles will auto destruct after 10km. Usually its better to shoot them much closer, but he's firing them beyond their max range, so they're just wasted. You can LOCK 30km away, but, its just a pretty light that explodes on its own when you launch from more than 10km out.
Daymar is cool but the sunsets on Yela and Clio are incredible.
I’m saving up for in game retaliator. Already got Invictus blue paint for it
What PC specs are you running?
I've faced a few bugs reloading my Eclipse with size 9s... sometimes I could only load 1 or 2 torpedos though it's true.
But Rule Number one is, always shoot between 4800-5000 Meters in range and you'll hit 100% of the times.
Optimal distance is 3k
Love that ship!
I love Daymar, but Yela is a jewel.
If I ever get a computer capable of playing this game I would love to be manning one of those turrets for you!
Cost of Torps can be prohibitive if not right loadout! Sometimes useful to have a friend to distract..
Also diff types of Torps give diff results, My pref EM Size 9's
Would use other ships missiles rather then size nines on the ships you are targeting, VHRT's not worth Tally, ERT's and Idris etc then yeah. IMO.
The thing I do when on the dark side of a planet and i'm not sure how close to the ground I am is ping the radar. It at least will give you a general idea and will keep you from crashing.
i love star citizen because yes.
How do you change to missile view?
Eclipse or Retaliator Bomber?
Bought this ship few days before you been great so far but resupplying missiles costs about 25k which sucks!
Just destroy it afterwards
are you going to make more planet coaster video's ??
The next jump town event can you blow up the Idris, you probably have some people in game or chat that will join in their own, it will be so awesome ordination for a video that will be wild!! One commenter said it takes 5-6 torps
What's the key to switch to the missile?
Let go multi crew Ollie!!!!
How do u make the game run so smooth very little stuttery and crashes ??
16:40 that's frost, not scratches.
ive been going full speed just above the target and start launching at 3.6km and by the time i hit 2.6km its launched and i am turning to launch other torps as needed using Seeker IXs
That’s cool and all but how many bugs and glitches did you find?
One of things I don't understand about this game , so what is all about ... All the UA-camrs post is vids of ships .. So is a ship collecting game ? what happens to your ship when it blows up ? do you lost it forever ? Just wondering if its really worth spending real $$$$ to play ..
There’s insurance in game and most ships are easily earned with play time(in theory, see below), eventually they want insurance to be apart of gameplay but for now anything you buy with $$ or ingame, just respawn it when you die
But here’s two additional things to note:
With game wipes etc, what spending $$$ really does is mean get that ship no matter what is wiped and in theory upon more finished build of the game, will start with it. Also some kind of racket they run with “life time insurance” to FOMO people more, as if when game ships they’d ever live down NOT having quasi life time
Insurance on all ships, like backers and new players would be livid and yes, they fully intend to sell ships post “release” in some form or another
And Ships can be earned in game but statement this is essentially a ship collecting game isn’t far from wrong; there are barely zero fully functional gameplay loops making actually earning ships in game a very frustrating task while game remains in alpha stage with crashes, server failures etc
All in all, imho, for this and many other reasons, no this game is not worth spending $$$ on right now but hopefully once sort ALOT of things out, it will be one day
