thanks for making this, it's great to hear Somi talking about this fantastic record!
I only even know who she is because of you, keep up the great work. LOVE your channel!
Thank's for turning me on to this amazing gem!
I knew I would find you there!
Somi speaks poetry to power. She uses music as an instrument of revolution and love. I am Malian, African American, Liberian. Petite Afrique is one of the only pieces of media that has ever made me feel heard. I am from D.C., not New York, but we too feel gentrification in the chocolate city. My grandfather died very, very recently. Somi's music has provided me love and comfort. I will be seeing her when she comes to the Kennedy Center in D.C. and I am so grateful for it. So much love. So, so much love.
BONJOUR SOMI JE SUIS FRANÇAIS DE L,ÎLE DE LA RÉUNION JE VIEN DE VOUS DÉCOUVRIR MAGNIFIQUE J,AIME TA MUSIQUE ENCORE BRAVO
Excellent and I love this album after 2 listens!! Was a worthy investment on pre-order. Somi is someone I met when she was in grad school, but it's her artistry that is no stranger to me as well as her commitment to get to a place where she was wooed by SONY. congratulations dear Somi! And I love the Harlem theme and tribute to Little Africa and 116th. #unfinishedmigrations
Thank you Somi...... If you were my last singer...... I would......
Wow...what a record!
I Love this video. I felt the culture and love of the language of Jazz, and Africana.
I was just introduced to Somi via Spotify and have quickly become a fan. Her music is so southing and spiritual to me and her voice is amazing and therapeutic to my ear. I read her bio and found out she is a very educated and accomplished woman. I am so happy to also see that she is very thoughtful, articulate and proud of her African and Afro-American cultures. It is so refreshing to see a real artist with so much integrity, beauty and talent shine.
Thank You! Thats all i can say. Your music is uplifting. #I’mAfrican 💪🏿💪🏿
this is lovely. to shine light on the place, history and the people that produced the music. it makes me smile
I was in France late last month and stopped at FNAC to purchase this album. This is great work by any measure. Personally, I continue to be amazed by your deliverance, story-telling and the themed effortless charm of your lyricism (esp. after an album like _The Lagos Music Salon_ ).
Here's a list of my favourite tracks - in no particular order:
1. _Alien_
2. _Black Enough_ (great feature, Aloe Blacc)
3. _The Wild One_
4. _They're like Ghosts_
5. _Holy Room_
6. _Blue_
7. _Like Dakar_
Yes, it's pretty much the whole album. The field sample for _12. Go Back to Your Country_ was a lovely catch.
_-South Africa._
Best wishes.
