I recently had a really bad head injury and I’m now having to deal with pcs ( post concussion syndrome) it makes me feel like I’m dissociating at times, I get pretty bad anxiety, and I’m sensitive to noise and light, it’s just a whole bunch of thing. This is all new to me so it’s scary. Your channel makes me feel safe when the outer world doesn’t, your calming voice and the familiarity of books help clear my mind and helps me try and stay present. Thank you so much for all you do ❤️
Oh lovely I’m so sorry, unfortunately I know exactly what you mean, I’ve been dealing with pcs for a long time now too from a concussion in 2019, I’m so here for you if you need someone to chat with or want to reach out💙 For me it made the world feel like a very different place in all aspects of life and I’m sure so much is different for you too, sending you so much love and yes books, audio or physical at times, are such a help too! Hugs xx
@@emmiereads thank you so much!, The world really is different now.. it’s hard to adjust. Books and audios are one of the only things that make me feel better, and knowing you have/ are going through the same thing makes me feel less alone. I can’t describe how much you and your videos mean to me, thank you again ❤️❤️
something about the sound of books being pulled out of the shelf and put back in place is so satisfying, I don't know why. I do that to my shelf all the time, even if I don't intend to read anything.
Vogue doesn't do bookshelf tours, but Marie Claire actually does ! They have a series of videos called Shelf Portrait in which celebrities show their books
I really love how broadly and diversely you read! So many different genres, time periods, countries that are represented here. There are many famous books, famous authors, as well as lesser known ones, that is just so very beautiful to see. It says so much of how open you are, and how much you love books and reading, that you appreciate and give time and attention to such a a wide group of authors. It's so very refreshing and unique to see it on this platform, and I really love seeing it, so inspiring and so many book suggestions that I have written down! A bonus is that a major part of your library has been thrifted. I'm so glad you're here Emma, it's always so amazing to watch your videos :) Also, after seeing in your previous bookshelf tour videos how you order your classics chronologically, I did the same in my own, cause I was really intrigued to explore reading in that way. Viewing and analyzing books in relation to the time of their publication and contemporaries, has proved to expand my reading experiences with classics! :) so thank you for that :)
Also, read Letters to a Young Poet and my mind is so blown. I love when you think there isn’t anything out there that’ll make you swoon with words like other books you’ve already read and then BAM you discover Rilke.
I listened to this entire video while cleaning up a small room that will be my office. While I will never get into non-fiction, I appreciate your ability to share such a huge portion of your life and your world as it exists upon those shelves. I am entering my 30s and have lived a very transient life without ever having a place to settle down outside of a laptop and coffee shops. I intend to build a study that can become a sanctuary and reflection of my mind. I have fallen in love with non-fiction books written by people who have lived long before me and experienced far more things. Books are a source of wisdom and this is something I have been unable to find elsewhere!
Finally, someone who actually doesn't care too much about aesthetics and keep all the books she own on display. And also not owning only the popular ones. Love how you have lots of the classics.😍
I have depression, tinnitus; misophonia and misokinesia. To say life is a struggle at the moment is an understatement. But, this video really helped me feel connected to something again. Thank you so much ❤️
oh i ADORED this!! can just i say that i really appreciate that you don’t have a bunch of brand new shiny hardcovers, you have a bunch of different editions, some used some paperback, and just a really satisfying variety. so many bookshelf tours here on youtube are only the former and none of the latter, and yours looks a lot more like mine (especially with all the well-loved annotated books from my english degree!) i wish you a lovely day and as stress-free of a move as possible!
I have always kept my books by author and by subject. That being said I do enjoy seeing yours in chronological order. I think having the books on the shelf with a certain flow makes the shelf that much better.
If you wanna know, I am a medical student from Iran! I found your channel when I was searching for bookshelf tour and I saw one of your videos talking about most loved books I guess! I think the thumbnail was nice and the fact that you used cute emojis for the title caught my eyes! I love your videos, they’re very calm and just nice and I love the whole aesthetic… I suggest you read Persian books and Persian poetries. Because they’re absolutely gorgeous.
I am so happy right now because I saw A Castle in The Clouds and I actually did not know that Kerstin Gier had her novels translated to English! I loved reading her books growing up, the original German title is Das Wolkenschloss btw :)
As far as Hemingway, I would recommend "A Farewell to Arms" first, I think it's a bit better written than "The Sun Also Rises", whereas the latter tends, in my experiience, to turn some away. Of course the short stories are fantastic, but my favotite is "A Moveable Feast". Also, anyone interested in Hemingway and Fitzgerald should definitely check out John Fante. "Ask the Dust" is terrific.
Thanks for the recommendation. I really like Hemingway's works and tried to recommend The old man and the sea or For whom the bell tolls to some of my friends. Unfortunately either they said the book was boring or they just said the story was quite slow and it's not their jam. I was really disappointed 😞😔. Even though i still enjoy Hemingway's book, i don't try to introduce them to people anymore
30:34 I recently read this version of The Phantom of the Opera (my first ever read) and it is now my favourite book of all time! Thank you for introducing Phantom to me in your older vlogs 🥺
The mistery of the yellow room is so good!!!! I need to read Snow and Rose because "snowhite and Rosered" was one of my favorite tells when i was a child
As a Romanian, I was really surprised/ excited to see a book from Mircea Eliade. You could also seek out 'Novel of the Nearsighted Adolescent' by him. I read it when I was a teenager and it affected me the same way 'Catcher in the Rye' did.
Your bookshelf tours are such a beautiful combination of the history of literature, your aesthetic, & your love and knowledge of books! Wonderful! Enjoyed so much! 🖤
There's nothing giving me so much peace as Emma's voice does. It's being a tough week and your videos are keeping me alive, thanks for sharing your bookshelf with us again! Hopefully, we'll have a big bunch a bookshelf tours in your new home :)
I have the same editions of Mrs. Dalloway, Pride and Prejudice and one of your letters to a young poet. Love it when I see a familiar edition on your shelves. Like seeing an old friend. Thanks for your relaxing videos!
Best bookshelf tour ever, Emma! Love, love, love! Your editions are so gorgeous! The Phantom shelf is my favorite. I wanna read The Phantom of the Opera very soon. Thanks for this lovely video!🌼🦋✨🧚
I absolutely love this space, it looks like a little haven! Your videos/ talking about books is so relaxing and peaceful to listen to, especially when I am anxious or down about the world. I love how diverse your collection is! Also so excited to read some of the books you have recommended.

You have the most beautiful library collection, Emma! Absolutely love this library tour. Palace Walk by Naguib Mahfouz was sent by me :). I figured it would be cool if you had modern "ish" author from Egypt in your list of books from around the world you got to read! I haven't read anything yet by this author, but as a Copt myself, I know he is a highly respected Egyptian author and winner of the Noble Prize. I hope you really enjoy Oodgeroo Noonuccal's My People as well! Noonuccal is a well-loved Aboriginal Australian political activist and poet. I am both impressed and depressed. Impressed by your organisational system by both genres and chronologically. Though I understand the Dewey Decimal and your system I have always used the rather obscure system of finding a book-sized gap on the shelf and shoving the book in there. Obviously, this means retrieving a book that bit more difficult and time-consuming. I am depressed at the sheer variety of your collection compared to mine which is quite narrowly focused. Though after subscribing to your channel it is getting a little broader.
Okay so I’m binging your videos cause like they’re one of the only things I can concentrate on right now while knitting, and oh man I love your bookshelves. That large Norton Anthology of English Literature Major Authors was also assigned in my major authors overview lit class in second year (I went to Ubc okanagan in BC). I remember the prof assigning the giant version, but I was lucky that I had transferred from a smaller college that year and the class I had the year before also used it. BUT the class I had been in used the ones where it was split into two volumes, so I was super lucky I didn’t have to carry around the giant version.
I recently had a really bad head injury and I’m now having to deal with pcs ( post concussion syndrome) it makes me feel like I’m dissociating at times, I get pretty bad anxiety, and I’m sensitive to noise and light, it’s just a whole bunch of thing.
