I'm so glad to see you doing this. I made a video where I boiled my thermostat years ago and my youtube friends still make fun of me for it. You rock! Thank You.
Thank you! In reality I should have showed the portion in which I used a thermometer to test the water temp in comparison to when the thermostat opened. I may update this video in the future. Thank you for commenting!
+Steve C Thank you Steve! My interest in auto repair and making videos has been uninterrupted, but life had some other plans for me. Thank you for the comment! :)
skip that, tell the person to buy one that sticks open when it fails, and just replace it because getting to the thermostat and/or draining the coolant to get it out is the worst part and you've already done that much. thermostats are like $9 ;) glad you're back!
First things first. I recently became the owner of a 1996 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 and while I have wrenched on a lot of things, I must admit I have never worked on a 4x4. Having said that I would like to thank you for the videos that you have out showing how to do the suspension work on these. Now for this video, which is great by the way. I once had an overheating problem with a 71 ford Maverick I built with a 302 in it. Pretty much everything was new, and I should not have had the problem I was having. Out of desperation I did exactly what you did in this video........multiple times. It turned out that on the 4th time of the heating opening cooling closing cycle was when the thermostat failed to open. To this day I do not know why, maybe it was a one in a million thing but it was the only thing that I had not triple checked. Just wanted to let you know incase the head/gasket on the Subaru is not the culprit. Knowing that the Subaru's are notorious for head problems I would go with that though. I look forward to watching and learning from the video's I have not watched on your channel yet. Thanks again for the videos you have out, they are greatly appreciated!
I randomly found your channel, I saw some vides despite that I don't need to do that repair :D. Keep the videos coming, they are nice. Thanks for sharing them.
Hey, love your videos.. Great work!! Question, I have a 96 Cherokee. Seems to run good, BUT! it hates hills, seems to drop speed fast, it does not have a CAT so that being said.. I thought maybe the timing was off, but I can not MOVE the distributor on this model for some reason! Any ideas? I am at a loss, Seems to idle fine, but sometimes after I drive it, well it takes 2 to 3 times turning it over before it starts. I have had Cherokees before, and never had one where I could not adjust the timing. New Ox sensor as well.. Im SOO SOO lost...
