    Very good review. Thank you. I really like the new video format with explanations followed by three sequences with both speakers back to back separated by ads markers between sequences. It helps switching back and forth. I have a pair of BW 706 S2 with primare i15 and I love the quality of the sound reproduction. I agree that they can be too forward at times but it leads to good scene spacing. They are not forgiving on poor quality recordings. I guess it gives an edge to speakers with less dynamic frequency response or overly pushed bass lines. I was curious about the LS50 meta with all the raving. Splendid technological achievement. I will be looking for the next iteration. Will keep my set for now too. Cheers.

      So after listening to them for 3 weeks, I am even more pleased with the decision. It was a bit scary purchasing something without a prior audition. I did that with some Klipsch speakers..I added a Rel Subwoofer to help, but it still was awful. Too much treble and was almost painful. I even had an EQ to decrease the highs. I am so satisified with the outcome..I did have the 606 for a week, but was missing some fullness. Now I am satisfied. Oh, even my old edifiers were better than the klipsch.

      @@imagesbyjonevan3890 Hello. I have ordered bowers 706 s2 without demo as demo is not possible where I live . I will be pairing them with my old Harman Kardon 3380 stereo receiver. I have heard reviews that these speakers sound bright / harsh so one cannot listen for too long ? Does one have to do any tonal adjustments to 706 s2 for listening?

    I own the LS 50wII and a pair of 803d3. The LS50 is exemplary. It has one of the best midrange sound quality in the market. However, form factor has its limitations. Highs have less extension than BWs and bass is subtly limited in extension and clarity. The deep bass is mostly due to the rear port and thus less time coherent. These are not defects, they are simply physical limitations. IMO the KEF LS50 is probably among the best speakers.... for the price. They punch well above their price and are delightful indeed. Note I'm not directly comparing them to the 803d3 since that would be unfair (they cost more than 5 times as much) I'm using the 803 as a reference.

    Were both pairs level-matched? - B&W seem to play a bit louder hence creating an illusion of sounding better. 80% of what you’re hearing now (in this video) is actually THARMABAR’s ROOM.
    Tharmabar’s listening space creates a slight midrange hump which colours the midrange, creating a slightly hollow-sounding vocal and it has virtually zero taming of any brightness within any recordings.
    Hence, both speakers are not bright sounding,..merely accurately reproducing how the highs were well captured in the recording.
    The ROOM is the only component creating the biggest effect on any reproduced sound.

    • @Tharbamar
      @Tharbamar  3 роки тому

      Try original music with neutral headphones. see the measurements of other speakers in this room there is no major midrange hump in this room.

    BW more air the instruments are more clear.
    KEF. The vocals are better and more in the foreground.

They can go very very loud & slam far far more than what u’d expect at their size. The KEY thing abt b&w spks is amplifier interface. Get this wrong & they will sound like shit! Get it right however & they can compete with any spk even those far more expensive & upmarket. I m using LFD to drive my cm6s2 & the matching is impeccable!

      Congratulations, let us know how you like them. I am interested as well. On this demo, it was the piano on the KEF, that convinced me. The B&W has that shimmer that sounds enticing, but when you listen to midrange vocals and particularly that piano on Kiss of Life, there is no comparison. The piano jumps out on the LS 50 and has detail and weight to it. Very natural sounding to my ear. When you listen to the B&W it sounds recessed and thin by comparison. I really think that if I had those I would be turning them up to bring out the mid range which would definitely cause that brightness to be more pronounced. And perhaps fatiguing.
      Anyway that is my impression and I would choose the KEF.

    Sounds like the ls 50 is playing from a can in these demos. I know they sound a bit better in reality because I demoed them, but they have a distinct sound. I can't put my finger on it but they have a metallic sound on the top end that is very relieving and a bit fatiguing. Amazing though what they put together for $1500 and a 5" drive. The bass they put out is quite impressive, but doesn't quite sound right. The distortion is extremely low on the LS50 though. It's quite picky on source material and you can hear any bad recording instantly on them. Either way I have a DIY speaker that I thought would be worlds apart from it and was sadly mistaken. I know it sounds like I am being harsh on them but for the price kef put together a monitor that's difficult to beat.

    Lol at some of you people who judge speakers via videos 😂
    I havent yet heard any mass market mass produced speakers under £1000 that didnt somewhat sound sweet or detailed and or exciting for a while only to find something is badly missing mainly in terms of harmonics and ability to not editorialise things. I have an ancient pair of 70s wharfedales inherited from my old man that have tonality thats genuinely believable and while i relax and sink into music the hifi terms just faid into the background. Bliss.
    Its these sort of speakers here that never last for long and end up moving on because owners dont want to admit they dont like what they do to some of their (not always perfectly recorded) music and they dont realise they are just listening to the speakers/system and not the music itself.
    The hifi game is a dangerous pit of constant disappointment if indulged for the (unintentional) wrong reasons.
    Oh and the Kefs are better 😂😂

    • @JonathanGurgul
      @JonathanGurgul 3 роки тому +1

      The 705s instantly sound FAR more open than the 706s. I just A/B’d them today for over an hour back and forth. It’s really not even close. Also had the Metas and KEF R3s right there.
      Out of all I listened to, I am really thinking 705s are the way to go. People are very hard on B&W for the 705s being “harsh” but it’s all in the amp set up. They do good with class A/B amps like Rotel or even Naim stuff. The 706s did in fact sound harsh to my ears in comparison. The tweeter on top just instantly adds air and width to the sound that is not something you have to listen for. You just immediately hear it. It’s funny because I’ve seen reviews which say they are 95% the same which is totally false.

    The LS50s are "bottoming out" you amp at 10 o'clock. Most people don't understand how difficult it is to properly (full potential) drive an 85 dB sensitivity speaker that dips to low 3 ohms for much of the musical bandwidth. LS50s are 4ohm speakers (Kef is starting to rate their speakers rightly at 4 ohms). I thought the same when I pushed the LS50s with a very good 150W high current amp, because the LS50s would start breaking up well before 100 watts. The LS50 suck a lot of power for them to shine in bigger rooms. I have a quality high current 45W amp driving LS50s for my desktop system and it's plenty in a small room and near field. The KEF R11s are a much easier load to drive than the LS50s, thus the LS50s need a lot more power to play at equal volume. Amplifiers push the voltage and speakers draw the current (amps) they demand. The LS50s draw far more current than most speakers at relevant output (SPL).

    • @Tharbamar
      @Tharbamar  4 місяці тому

      My Amp can do 60amp ultra high current, that’s not issue, it’s been driving Apogee Duetta Signature(hardest speaker to drive).
      Only issue here is the volume and size of the cabinet and power handling.
      All small speakers will bottom out, LS50 is ok but nothing special, it doesn’t need more power it just sound good with 20 watts tube amp but it can’t handle the load it just physically impossible.

      @@Tharbamar Sorry Tharbamar, an amp should always be neutral in my opinion. Receive, amplify, send. For the S706 S2 to sound neutral, a lot of top end must missing from your system chain. Put a neutral speaker in that system and it will almost certainly sound dead and dull.

    • @Tharbamar
      @Tharbamar  2 роки тому

      No worries, Nothing is missing in my system, you can see in-room response measurements that I provided in my videos for how they responded in my room.
      in example, what you can hear in my sound demo is about 65% or less of actual sound quality of my system(with listening with headphones like MDR-7506) whether you like online sound demo or not, just for reference.
      Actually, I’m hyper sensitive to unnatural bright sound but there is natural bright sound in music too, it depends on the personal perception.
      Yes, they can get bright and forward with certain music but not all the music, they will reproduce the sound of recorded music in unforgiving high resolution than any other in the same price range, which may be totally missed by many, also in room sound reproduction is 50/50 of the room and equipment not only the fault of the speakers, I would love to demonstrate to people who loves to argue about certain things in sound reproduction, yes I understand personal taste and preference but it don’t mean they’re 100% truthful to reflect everyone’s preference.
      They’re not my favorite, not my least favorite either, sometimes I wonder why B&W is the biggest speaker manufacturer, in the end HiFi is all about personal preference. Thanks
