I got HEATSTROKE riding a motorcycle in Indonesia. Hottest place on earth? | 🏍 SE Asia, Episode 9
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- We’ve ridden a motorcycle through the driest place on earth (the Atacama Desert in Chile), and the hottest place on earth (Death Valley, USA), but nothing has affected us like Indonesia. And the sad part is we had such an amazing day riding through Western Java. The views of the mountains and the terraced rice paddies simply blew our minds, but maybe we had one too many hours sweating under the sun. Because that night, in a hotel without air conditioning, the heat finally got the best of us…
Welcome to our channel 2Up and Overloaded, we’re excited to have you along for the ride!
We are Tim and Marisa Notier, and we quit our jobs and sold everything 5 years ago to ride around the world two up on a motorcycle to follow our dreams. On this channel, we share our adventures with you, and everything we learn about traveling together on a motorcycle ➜ what to do, and what to avoid.

Your sickness sounds like the migraines I use to get as a kid. I associated the onset with heat and humidity. A number of hours in a dark cool room and they'd pass. Back then, less understood and attributed to a whole bunch of stuff, including not knowing they mere migraines. Keep track of them. Stay well. Beautiful journey you are on.
Thank you for the advice and kind words!
Good to see you have recovered. Being sick on a travel is the worst! Nice views!
Be safe …
🙏🏻
It has been pretty awesome so far!
As a 149.33 cc bike user, I believe Dorco will do her duty better than my Yamaha FZ150i. I just finished my trip from Tangerang to Sabang with FZ150i without any problem, except one thing: ran out of gas. So trust me, Dorco can do this.
A tip from me: use wider rear sprocket gear to increase her gear ratio. It would help you to climb some hills easily
lol! Dorco will climb her way up and around Indonesia! Thanks you for the tip and for believing in Dorco!
Thanks for taking the time to do drone shots of that terraced rice paddy. All I could think was that someone had to do all that work by hand! Must have taken a lot of people a lot of time.
Me too, that's all I could think about! People had to reshape an entire hillside by hand... So much work, but the end result is gorgeous and practical. Rice is so important for people's survival here. I'm glad we could get a beautiful perspective of it with the drone. Thanks for commenting VeeDub!
That bike is made for a 130 pound guy the solution is to regear it simply by changing sprocket size and you won’t have any problems going up steep hills
Keep up the great job on the videos
Thank you so much for the advice! And thank you for tuning in and the positive feedback!
I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m in Japan here and we deal with the same stuff in summertime, 105 degrees with damn near 100 percent humidity. Be careful out there!
Thank you for the kind comment! We try to stay hydrated and take as many breaks as we can when we’re burning up 🥵
I feel like you will be twice the rider you were after all this Tim! Takes a lot more skills to get a lesser bike to do what a nicer bike can. You can learn a lot by riding a smaller bike although ideally not 2 up and or overloaded haha😉💯 Also saw a good comment about changing the sprocket/drive gear ratio lower to help the low end power if thats a possible option since the bike is local.
Yes, changing the sprocket out is a very good idea actually. There are a few other things that are issues with the bike at the moment, nothing too serious, but we're taking it to a mechanic today so maybe that's something I'll look into. Thank you for the great advice 🙂. And I certainly don't feel like twice the rider as I ride around on this thing, but hopefully it is helping to improve my skills...
❤ahhhh really enjoyed this episode. Cinematic views with beautiful music. Thanx.
(Hope you are better now , M)
Thank you Ronelle. This is Marisa, and I am much better now. I'm learning to better deal with the heat by dousing myself in water before a ride, and taking more breaks during the day. And thank you for the compliment on the cinematic views and music... I'm glad you liked the video 😃!
I am sorry that you were ill Marisa!
I hope that you recovered quickly.
Tim the Tiger, or even Tiger Tim would be a great nickname.
Just saying!
All the best,
Tiger Coward
😆my nickname when I played in a blues band was "Don't Know No Notes Notier" and in my jazz class I was "Tender Tones Timmy" But nowadays I may go by 2Up and Over-bloated..
@2UpAndOverloaded LOL.
When you grow up with the last name Coward, you don't get a nickname. Everyone just called me Coward. So much so that there were guys who I played soccer with for years who didn't know my name.
Once, a long-time teammate was getting married, and he said, "Hey Dave, I need to get your last name for the invitation." When I told him it was Coward, he couldn't stop laughing because he thought that was just my nickname.
That's why I am Tiger Coward and not Tiger Dave. More people know me as Coward than Dave.
Suggestion to lower the logo to just above the dash so we can better see your awesome camera shots. (or not ☺) Another great video. Thank you!
Thank you for the suggestion! We are off of the motorcycle for a few weeks as we explore East Malaysia, but I will try to remember to move the logo!
Thank you for tuning in!
Another great video
Well done 👏
Thank you for tuning in and for the awesome feedback!
Wow!
Magnificent editing and music for the rice paddies I watched that section twice to see and hear it again. (14.0 - 15.30)
Very impressive and beautifully done. Now that I've reached the end I am going to watch and listen to that section again while I comment.
Heat stroke is very serious and it certainly sounds like you are (were) suffering from it.
Since you are making and posting the videos you recovered I am glad to know.
For future reference regarding roads, there are paved roads and unpaved roads, if there are any remnants of paving of any type it s still considered a paved road. Unpaved roads may be gravel, dirt, mud, rock, or sand but they are still roads. Like the dirt highways in Alaska, they are roads. Below the unpaved roads level are Jeep trails or 4x4 recommended trails but they are still not considered "Offroad" riding or driving. Offroad means no 4 (or more) wheel vehicle has broken trail or laid down tracks.
On another point, do you know what the biggest fear owners of million dollar "Overlander" rigs is?
It is that after driving their go-anywhere 4 or 6 wheel drive mega camper to a remote and difficult destination they see an old VW bus already there. Many of us have gone where 4x4's fear to tread. So, yes, I am sure that old VW drove up that road.
Okay, now that I've restarted the video to listen to the rice paddies section music many times I will say, Carry on!
lol 🤣 We have crawled up so many difficult roads on our 1190 thinking we were the king and queen of the land... only to be passed by a small 150cc motorcycle with a lady sitting sidesaddle on the back with a baby in her lap!
I know this was a year ago but comparing Folgers to naturally home grown coffee beans, not sure about being called a connoisseur…lol. Granted, local coffee can be a hit or miss but Folgers ?…love your videos. Thanks for sharing them.
You guys really chose the amazing road. but to be honest not the common road if we wanna go to other city, we just chose highway or even province-city road 😮
We love taking all of the backroads that we can! They lead to such amazing little villages and have less traffic!
Wonderful country to explore!
Amazing trip..every road is new experience and once of a life time passing through..every day is something new..waow , you are so lucky guys.. enjoyed and keep safety... terimakasih ya
Thank you so much for riding along with us!
I like.. nice vidio ....spirit 👍🙏🙏🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Thank you very much!
Very impressed with your maneuvering up the steep! The landscape is so incredible 😍 Ugh so sorry you were sick like that Marissa! Big hug!
Hug hugs back at you! Dorco may be a little underpowered, but it doesn't help that Tim is overconfident lol!
That's what happen if you spent much times in the highland, and then suddenly go down the lowlands.. you'll get headache. and if you are not fit enough, you'll get fever like symptoms.
Just take some vitamins. maybe drink some coconut water and/or take some bananas, you'll be fine.
Always bring bananas with you... in Indonesia, we don't ride with empty stomach.
Thanks for the heads up! We’ve been feeling much better as of late!
I hope you bike is liquid cooled? If not such heavily loaded steep hot uphill stretches may be the last it does… 😵💫
And the missus, erm: Maybe get a conversion kit to water cooling? 🥴 Not available? Take that, Lamarck!!1! 💪
Lovely video! 🤗
🤣indeed! I am not 100% sure if it is water cooled... but this may be its last adventure regardless lol!
Thanks for tuning in!
DORCO .....Thank to you...Good job Dorco.......
It has been a good bike to us!
Wow amazing video bro!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for tuning in!
Amazing footage.
Everytime I watch your adventures in Indonesia, I am wondering how you deal with this heat and humidity. I'm dying here in the Virginia summer gross summer .
Keep up the good work.
It gets hot here for sure! But we take as many breaks as we can and are sure to rehydrate often!
Thanks for tuning in!
I'm sorry to hear you were sick Marisa, I hope you are feeling better. Enjoying your trip immensely, thank you!
Thank you so much for riding along with us and for the kind words!
You two make Indonesia look so amazing. It makes us want to make SE Asia our next motorcycle destination. So cool that the guys showed you the view that they are so proud of. Dorco has a lot of character for being such a gutless wanderlust bike - 3 percent grade - Lol! Overlook. Lol! Chantil and I both were yelling at the screen “Go Dorco! Go!!” The views look like it was worth it though - Elvin lookout and all. It’s funny that you like Folgers over Java coffee. Stunning footage - the riding, the drone footage - wonderful! I like the extra information you add at the bottom of the screen as well. Sorry to hear you’re feeling so rough - Total bummer. Your channel is easily one of the best ones there is. Thanks for taking us on your journey with you.
Definitely an amazing part of the world to explore! So much to see in a compact section of the globe! But we often find ourselves daydreaming of the vast openness of South America and what is still to come when we travel through Europe and the Middle East!
Love ya guys! Thanks for helping us plan our future route through your pictures and channel!
Amazing experiences
Yes it was! We have been having the time of our lives exploring Java!
OMG..heat stroke !!!
Stay still..as a BIG fan..will send my private jet and doctors..to offer support..
AHH.. sadly my lottery numbers did not win
BUT at least the thought and support was forthcoming
Tim.. always gets that wee dig in.. about lack of power on current bike
..as they say.. just use what you have...🤣
Stay safe.. stay cool.. drink drink..and remember.. tomorrow can wait..your uploaded material not a race
Your adventures are first and foremost for YOU
Take care..and thanks for sharing
Thank you Andrew for the support, the advice, and for the laugh! We are glad to have you along for the ride and can't thank you enough for the kind comments!
That was awesome guys,,I'm waiting for the clutch to burn out on that little bike,😢 hope not but I think it is inevitable. Best wishes to both of you.
😂 The little engine that could is getting us places we never expected it to have! Thanks for the laugh 😂!
@2UpAndOverloaded ya I can't believe you guys can do what you do on that little thing.
Great video thank you very well done thanks for taking us along glad your feeling better cheers to you
Thank you so much Bruce. Yes, I definitely am feeling better these days, but unfortunately as you'll see in the next video, we are not done with being sick... I guess that's what happens when you suddenly arrive in the other side of the world, there are lots of new diseases and bacteria to get used to. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Bruce!
Always such beautiful views of your adventures thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for riding along with us!
Amazing video amazing ❤️
Thank you so much!
You two make great videos, very informative and entertaining. And, you’ve been traveling for six years??!! You should have a million followers…your channel is that good…music, drone footage, and superb editing. Keep at it. When you have a job you love it ain’t work! Love the Indonesian countryside but your riding in the city is terrifying. I see why you need your “A” game! Be safe!
You are too kind!! Thank you so much for the awesome feedback!! Our channel is slowly growing, but comments like this one make our day and push us forward!
A million thanks 😊!
It's unfortunate that Dorko is not the ideal bike for your Java trip but Java have several scenic highland destinations that will blow your minds, Dieng plateau, mount Bromo just to name a couple ....by now you know Dorko's limits, so the important thing is to stay safe and healthy but still enjoy Java as optimally safe as possible riding Dorko.
Indeed! But we like to push ourselves and the bike's limits! I think we will ride to Bromo and see how far we can get. Or just stay at a hotel and hire a Jeep! Thanks for tuning in and for the encouragement!
After this Indonesia trip....Do a trip of india.
ur videos r well edited, luks gud...
i want ur channel to grow lot lot more than now...
u will gain immense subscribers,views....
happy ride🍻
Actually... We are definitely considering doing a great loop of Asia, including India! We are huge fans of mountains, and India has the highest mountains on earth, with some of the most stunning roads on earth, and wonderful food and people... How can we not go there?! Thank you for your suggestion SASA 😊! Happy riding to you too!
Such a beautiful place! Sorry you got sick Morissa, I hope you get better and it’s a one time thing. I must have missed the episode where you decided to ride such an underpowered bike, why? Someone mentioned changing your sprocket, not a bad idea. If it had stalled out on that hill it wouldn’t have been pretty.
Thanks for tuning in! Finding a cheap bike over 220cc was nearly impossible in Indonesia. And because we can't take it out of the country, we figured it would get us across Java! It struggles sometimes, but it is getting the job done!
Better be careful, a true heat stroke which that sounds like, takes 5 to7 years to get your heat tolerance back and if you push it meanwhile, you'll have a much worse stroke. I know from personal experience!
Oh wow, I know it was serious, but I didn't realize just how serious it could be... Thanks for the warning. We really have to be careful out here...
Java is a rice island and the largest rice producing province in Indonesia is East Java.Drink lots of water with friends so that your body doesn't get sick, especially since the weather in Indonesia is uncertain, sometimes it's hot, rainy and cloudy.🙏
Thank you for the kind words, advice, and support! We are so glad to have you along for the ride!
I don't know why in Garut has no power, no way! Garut is a big town. Why Indonesia is very hot now, almost all over the world is experiencing a long dry season due to the effects of El Nino, including Indonesia. Currently Indonesia is very hot even for Indonesians themselves, and it's not normal even by Indonesian them self.. All Indonesians sweat, so it's normal for you to sweat too, if you don't sweat it means you're not normal hahahaha.. It should have started raining in August because September has entered the rainy season, and it can rain every day, but that hasn't happened yet. It is estimated that the dry season will last until December, that's crazy!
Regarding roads in country sides areas and villages that are damaged because the asphalt is always exposed to water and floods every day for 6 months of the year. The enemy of asphalt is water. And Indonesia is a tropical country where rainfall falls every day for half the year. So all roads in Indonesia have to be re-asphalt in just a few months. Unlike in America, if the asphalt has cracks it will just be patched, in Indonesia this cannot be done, because the asphalt falls off and destroyed by water. Asphalt must be covered with new asphalt because the old asphalt is eroded by water and damaged. And many roads in remote villages are not monitored by the government and re-asphalt requires closing the roads. So it will be difficult for villagers to transport anything.
Thanks for all of the information and we hope that you are enjoying the ride along with us!
From Megamendung Bogor always here to watch your journey.....Your editing is so briliant. Even i watching every episode more and more......See you in the next episode....For Tim and Marissa i hope you always healthy and save riding💞💞💞💞💞💕💕💕💕💕💕
You are too kind!! Thank you for all of the support!
Thanks again for sharing your journey . Looks like amazing landscape. I think the heat would break me
It has been a pretty awesome journey so far! Lots of water and pit stops to get our of the sun and traffic, but all in all it has been an epic ride!
How cool you get to go to far away places, and do what you do
We are extremely lucky and thankful to be able to explore the world in 2 wheels!
In indonesia the place produce coffee is not java island but in sumatra island
Indeed! They are cool little creatures!
at least you see pave road, compare to african road is dirt road, you got sick maybe because you eat meatball, that meatball usually they make from chicken innards, and they put some meat flavored seasoning and the taste like 100% beef also they put some Preservatives so they don't spoil easily for the next few days. so just becarefull when you eat in the stall.
We were so glad to have our KTM 1190 on our African adventure! It was much better suited for that type of terrain.
The food here can definitely be interesting sometimes!
Mixture of heat stroke and maybe indigestion.
Definitely a combination of a few bad elements. But thankfully we are feeling better now!
Ride on
Thanks for tuning in!
Is it possible to re-gear the bike? Just by installing a smaller front sprocket. Dropping one tooth on the front sprocket would give the bike more torque for climbing hills. I met some fellows on KLR's and they would change their sprockets for off road riding and change back for highway. It will rev higher at highway speed and speedometer will read fast. As long as the bike doesn't over rev, it wont hurt anything. Manufactures gear the bikes tall for fuel economy. You may even be able to drop two teeth on front then, Wheelies! I would check into that if you haven't already.
Great idea! We may have some time to bring it into a mechanic as we explore East Malaysia!
Excellent advice!
Tebrikler 👏👏🏍🇹🇷💙
😊
It's been hot here as well, although not as hot as you have it there.
There’s a pretty nasty heatwave going around at the moment. Stay cool and safe! Thanks for riding along with us!
@@2UpAndOverloaded Sam Manicom stopped by our house today for a visit. Other than that, we’ve been doing inside projects today.
@@jimandvalstravelchannel I saw that posts! That is so great! A wonderful person with a million stories that we could just listen to for weeks!
As a locals ...sad when to see all the bad experiences in our land ...
Bike Accident traffic healthy weather issues and the food higines might be one of it ...
Weather or the heat is crazy ...
Drees conditionally ...a little air and not realy full covers ...
Traffic and Road ....?
Gave some time snd spaces to others riders ...locals riding style is agresive and crazy so give a chance to them to avoid any unexpected crash or event scrath ..
Honestly event me not realy like huge city massive and very crowded population such the capital jakarta ..
I Prefer a small town or country side at least out of huge citys ...
more calm quite and nice views ...when riding or driving ...
Healthy and food ...
Our food kind a has signature for south east asian ...
Spicy savory sweet salty any kind of taste ...because we blessed of great land very solid ground and very good for farming or gardening like rice and amy herbs ...event typical tropical fruits...that might be you never seen and tasted ..
So adaptation is matter for western let the stomache work for asian food by give a time to used to it ...specially for higines ..
Drink fresh water and milk is the things that I saw foreiner youtuber always did when visiting indonesia many times ...
Avoid street food for a while ,(just a while) ..choose proper and clean restaurant ...
Or bread milk and cheese at first to 5 days at the begining exploring ....
No matter how the stay ...water and milk is a must ...
Well everythings is challeng or become a apart of journey and experience ...no matter what it is ...
And at last as you seen ...how beautiful is our land at different side and part ..
I thingk all cahallenging moment or any bad moment is paid of by the beauty of the views panorama and also of the kindness and the smile of our peoole...I hope.
Save ride ...
Travel well ...
Enjoy our land ...
We loved every mile of Indonesia 🇮🇩
could you change sprockets
Not a bad idea! We will have some time off of the bike for a bit when we enter East Malaysia, so maybe we’ll have the bike get some reconstructive surgery while we explore Borneo on a different motorcycle.
since the video in east Java. i think the music background not Chinese instrument😅... next time would be better editing
nice video journey especially up on the step roads
i hope you both have a safe trip and keep healthy!
Thank you so much 😊 it has been an incredible journey
why buy such a small bike
It was the only good option we had at the time. We were hoping that it would be enough. But now we know we will need something larger.
