A wise man in my church said to me in a bible study one time . "Cherry Picking is dangerous . Especially if your ladder is not tall enough to reach the best fruit" . The Bible is to be consumed as a nourishing meal . Not as a midnight snack . Do not Cherry pick God's Word if you are truly seeking the full knowledge of God . Read it for the guidance and wisdom God wants to impart to you . Live out the Word of God . Don't just speak it .

For my Bible study time, I make sure I have everything I will need before I get started. I make sure my mechanical pencil has plenty of lead. I make sure I have a highlighter, a sticky note pad, my journal/notebook, my Bible, whatever commentary I’m using, my reading glasses, tissue (because I’m a girl and cry through many of my study sessions!), water & coffee (so I don’t have an excuse to get up).
I have all these things in one place and I make sure it’s all there before I begin. It helps to be prepared to limit your need to get up and fetch something.
I also schedule my study time for when my husband and kids interruptions will be minimal. (Which means getting up at 5am!) This step is the most important to me and is 100% worth it!

Thank you for breaking this down. As someone who struggles to study due to ADHD looking at the Bible with the advice of just open it up and start with where you land is daunting. Or even if I tried to go from Genesis I get so easily over whelmed.
I got a new Complete Jewish Bible that I'm so excited to go through but it's a study Bible that goes over the cultural context in each part of the Bible. So cool but soooo much information to absorb at one time.

You're absolutely correct in having an objective with a plan, when one approaches studying Scripture. Another aspect along this line is learning about the history -- or the events that were occurring at the time of what one is reading -- that weren't recorded in the Word but are mentioned in some of the commentaries you suggested. This gives the student an overreaching arch to understand why certain things were said while others were not. Great direction -- THANKS!

Bible study can be daunting for me also , I do need to commit more time to it & I always need to take notes . I get a little upset & worry about my memory loss but that is why I take notes and I enjoy that .
I need to invest in some new Bible study tools .
Thank you Brylan & Lisa .

I came across your channel the other day and have been watching through your videos. Thank you for all that you do to produce them and what you share within your videos. They are so invaluable and speak the truthful. ... I am newly Christian and especially liked this one as it reminded me of my own prayer journey that I started this past June. When I first started reading my bible and praying I was all over the place. I searched and used so many different prayers I had found online, that it got overwhelming. That was when God impressed upon me to keep it simple & keep it within his word. I read through the Psalms and marked a few that really spoke to me, and I started to read them every night, along with a few prayers that really were on my heart. While doing that I learned about the Liturgy of the Hours and bought the Christian Prayer book (the single volume). I now sit with God several times a day. Doing this has brought me closer to God throughout my day. I see myself less focused on the world and more focused on God's word & living by his word. Also, prayer has helped SO much with my mental health. It has changed my life.

It’s also really good to pray before and after you read the Bible, thanking God for His word and asking Him to speak to you through it. Don’t get discouraged when you hit boring or confusing parts. You’re not going to be able to appreciate all of it immediately and that’s okay, just keep plugging away and God will eventually make it clear to you. There are some passages that I read many times over the years before I understood or appreciated them. You can always learn something new. Blessings!

I gave my heart to Jesus as a child & was fortunate enough to have had years to dive into my Bible like you have suggested in this video. However, I have had to stop since the Bible changes have become so egregious & prevalent in recent years. I spend more time in worship & prayer, listening to hear from the Lord God, our Good Shepherd.
I would love to hear your take on the Bible changes we’re seeing (both in physical Bibles - OLD & NEW - as well as the digital Bible formats), such as: spelling & grammar errors, name changes, word swaps, story revisions, etc.
Specific Examples of Bible Changes (specifically in KJV):
    - Isaiah 11:6 used to say the LION shall lay with the lamb, but now it says the WOLF will dwell with the lamb.
    - John 3:16 used to say SHALL not perish, but now says SHOULD not perish (there is a HUGE difference in meaning between those 2 words!)
    - Mark 13:10 used to say the gospel must be PROCLAIMED to all the nations, but now it says PUBLISHED (even in my family heirloom KJV Bible that is over 40 years old!)
    - Job 22:24 now says HIS breasts are full of milk! I don’t recall what that verse used to say, but I know for a fact it didn’t say that!!!
    - God is referred to as HIGHEST instead of Most High.
    - Nebuchadnezzar is also spelled Nebuchadrezzar!
I love your videos & respectfully ask you to explain how these changes have occurred in our Bibles. I can think of no other explanation other than it being a sign of the times we are living in, as spoken of in Amos 8:11-13.
According to John 1:1, Jesus is the Word. He is the same yesterday, today & always … which clearly cannot be said of our Bibles.

As a homeschooling mom of 5 (ages 1-11), I read a verse or two during my morning quiet times and write them in a planner. Then we read a portion of scripture together during our Morning Time. After reading it, the kids narrate and we discuss it along with some commentary. We also recite scripture and sing hymns. We do this 6 days of the week even if we don't do any other lessons.

I am like Lisa about the one year plan Bibles. It wasn’t until I started reading the one year plan about 5 years ago that I became consistent with daily reading. It also has helped that I do daily scripture writing with the pastors wife and other ladies. It helps with accountability. I can’t say I have really read commentaries except the one included in my Bible. So I may have to check those out. So many great ways to get into the word.

  • @salvationzone9532
    @salvationzone9532 2 роки тому

I've found that it's wise to read different translations of the bible because not all of em are consistent. Words are added or taken away. We’re called to rightly divide the word of truth by not applying scripture to those to whom it was not meant for or addressed to as I’ll explain. We also must compare scripture with scripture to verify accuracy & also to take the whole of the bible in context to verify that context is not lost about the subject or doctrine being taught. I'll use the example of the virgins/bridesmaids. We all see through a glass darkly & we try our best to understand this amazing book called the bible. Here's just one of many proofs that the whole body, bride, church, what ever you want to call us is already in heaven during the tribulation. As far as the parable of the ten virgins goes, the following verses show that the whole body of the bride is already in heaven during the tribulation & the virgins, tribulation saints, are what are called the guests that will be present at the wedding feast of the bride to Jesus, they’re not the church. The church is a group of people comprising both jew & gentile that accepted Jesus during the age of grace. Once the rapture happens the age of grace comes to an end. We see the bride calling out to the people of the world to come to the wedding feast. The virgins are going out to meet the bride & bride groom, not take part in the wedding. They’re not the bride, that privilege ended after the rapture. Many versions, including the one most people say is the only perfect translation, that being the KJV, even leaves out this, what I think most important word, the BRIDE. In my humble opinion, leaving the BRIDE in this verse would clear up a lot of bickering back & forth about the truth of the pre-tribulation rapture. In the following verses the church is the BRIDE, the WIFE, the YE, the THY, the THEY, the THEM, the THEE & my PEOPLE.
    Aramaic Bible in Plain English
Matt 25:1 "Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be compared to ten virgins; the same took their lamps & went to meet the groom & the BRIDE." Church = bride, tribulation saints = virgins
    Douay-Rheims Bible
Matt 25:1 THEN shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom & the BRIDE. Church = bride, tribulation saints = virgins
    Bible in Basic English
Matt 25:1 Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the BRIDE, who took their lights, & went out with the purpose of meeting the husband. Church=bride, tribulation saints=virgins
    Wycliffe's Bible 1382
Matt 25:1 Then the kingdom of heavens shall be like to ten virgins, which took their lamps, & went out to meet the husband & the WIFE. Church = WIFE, tribulation saints = virgins
The following are in most modern translations but I think the concept that the bride is already in heaven during the tribulation is lost for many.
    Isaiah 26:20
20Come, my PEOPLE, enter thou into THY chambers, & shut THY doors about THEE: hide THYSELF as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
    Joel 2:16
16Gather together the people, sanctify the church, assemble the ancients, gather together the little ones, & them that suck at the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth from his bed, & the BRIDE out of her bridal chamber.
    Rev 12:12
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, & YE that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth & of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
    Rev 13:6
& he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, & his tabernacle, & THEM that dwell in heaven.
    Rev 17:14
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, & the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, & King of kings: & THEY that are with him are called, & chosen, & faithful.
    Rev 18:23
23 & the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; & the voice of the bridegroom & of the BRIDE shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
    Rev 21:9
9 & there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, & talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the BRIDE, the Lamb's WIFE.
    Rev 22:17
17& the Spirit & the BRIDE say, Come. & let him that heareth say, Come. & let him that is athirst come. & whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
    Psalms 45: 13-14
13 The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. 14 SHE shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her COMPANIONS that follow HER shall be brought unto thee.
    Luke 12:36
36& ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return FROM the wedding; that when he cometh & knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
    Christians = bride/wife/daughter
    Jews/tribulation saints/companions/friends/bridesmaids = virgins

Great tips! Commentaries are a helpful addition to Bible studying. I also think that we should attend a Bible study group at your local church , that way if you can make sure that you are learning the Bible within context. Also, if you are reading something you don’t understand, stop reading, capture any thoughts that may be distracting, pray for wisdom and understanding, start over and read it again. Remember that God may not reveal everything to you in that moment, but you will know what God wants you to understand when the lightbulb comes on. ☺️
Mat 7:1~ yes! the perfect example 🙁. I think that is one of the reasons why this world is falling off its rocker. I hear and see posts from Christians and Non-Christians quoting that verse, in defense of all sin. Funny how Non-Christians know that verse by heart but don’t believe in God or the Bible.

LOVE your videos!! It’s so refreshing to hear a godly man speaking TRUTH without being afraid of “offending!” WWJD?! What would Jesus do?! He would rebuke and reprove, leading others to righteousness, not a comfortable life full of sin.
God’s word is LIFE! It is literally our manual to life and how to live. There is SO MUCH depth and complexity to the Bible, which is why we must pray for God’s help, understanding, discernment and wisdom when reading it. Every time I read it I learn something new and see something I didn’t see before. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving ❤️🙏✝️

Well done & I totally agree! I have Warren Wiersbe OT & NT commentary and use Logos. I am careful when reading things based solely on their opinions but absolutely love getting the meaning behind things like "high places" or who exactly was this Cyrus guy in the OT. There were just so many things in the OT that have such rich history and background that now make so much more sense! Commentaries are wonderful for helping in this area. I started many months ago with a reading plan to read the Bible chronologically. As I dedicated myself to reading it daily I wanted more than just checking off that list. So I started reading one chapter (sometimes less) while reading along with the commentary. WHAT A GAME CHANGER!!! I'm still in the OT but it means so much more now than it ever did before and I'm super excited to get into the NT! I do write notes in my Bible, I highlight: Yellow=who, Blue=what, Purple=when, Green=Where, Pink=why. This helps me focus while I'm reading and I use post-its as well.

I'd encourage everyone to read out loud the book of Galatians. You will hear Paul's deep love and concern that Christians had fallen for false teachings. Too many popular preachers cherry pick scriptures, leading the listeners into half truths and or false teachings.

I have also noticed that the Hebrew Israelites not only pick certain scriptures and jump to others to “prove” their point, but they actually cut the scripture in the middle of a sentence to do so. They do this rapidly too thinking nobody will notice it.

I believe that God is pleased with Southern Gospel and Inspirational music because songs like Upon This Rock and I've Just Seen Jesus are bible based. I also believe that Alternative and punk rock Christian music are displeasing to God and this kind music, more than likely cause congregations to separate instead of coming together. God is Wonderful. God has brought forgiveness, grace, and mercy in to my life by bringing songs in to my life, such as Upon This Rock and I've Just Seen Jesus. God is the God of second chances. I am happy for what God has done in your life and if Southern Gospel has blessed you then more power to you. But God doesn't have a favorite type of music as long as the lyrics Honor Him. Please don't get entangled in the weeds of legalism. Many people have been saved thanks to Christian Rock too, whether it is Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Punk or even Metal. For that matter, even Christian Rap is a thing. I personally hate Rap music! However, if someone gets saved by listening to a Christian rapper I'm not going to condemn it. Just the opposite! I'll celebrate 🍾 it! As long as the Gospel is preached, I'm not going to quibble about the methods

One tool I use almost everyday: RA Torrey’s Treasury of Scripture Knowledge aka the TSK. It’s the most comprehensive cross reference guide every and in a very short time you will become biblically more literate then even your bible teachers. It’s that useful bc you will be letting scriptures interpret scriptures.

I agree you have the option to use other books for their knowledge, however, not all books are truly Christian. My family is notorious for grabbing books off the shelf from a well known craft store and seeing the claim of a Christian author, like what they have to say on the back of the book and purchasing it and accepting that is written by a Christian. Some of these books end up in my home. I had to tell them to stop sending me books because I don't read them. I'm not so trusting when it comes to random authors. Ask for guidance about a book before the purchase. I only purchase books suggested by people I trust who walk close to the Lord.

Hey Brylan and Lisa.... Not totally on topic with this comment.... But I would like to know your wisdom for something. About 6 or 7 years ago the church my family have attended for years, approved a change to start allowing woman to be ordained as elders. I have struggled very deeply about this because when I read scripture that speaks directly to church leadership, it seems quite clear that God desires the spiritually mature MALES of the church to be the elders and overseers. I know many people have a lot to say about this topic.... And you seem to endorse Christian leaders that I would say are biblically conservative, which I really respect and like. I have came close to leaving our church multiple times because I can't seem to overlook this leadership decision. It has been very hard for my family and I, because we have been very involved in serving at our church and it is painful to just pack up and leave a church that we've been members of for so long. I don't think I can come to terms with this decision to overlook clearly explained scripture regarding church leadership. What would you advise ? Thanks...

    • @BrylanandLisa
      @BrylanandLisa  2 роки тому +1

I appreciate your question Aaron 👍🏻 Honestly, it sounds like your church is doing something that goes against what you feel Scripture clearly teaches. If you are struggling with this because you are feeling personally convicted by it, then I would suggest you earnestly pray that the Holy Spirit leads you in your decision to find a new church. Personally, I feel like a church that is willing to give an inch to society, will eventually give a mile (and much more). Some people say that Women pastors and elders are a secondary issue, but you can not ignore what the Bible clearly teaches. If the church has to constantly reinterpret Scripture based on current cultural norms, then the church is appeasing man and not God. The Bible is CLEAR on roles for men and women and none of the roles are better or less than other roles. They are perfectly designed by God to perfectly fit how He designed humanity. I know it can be tough to leave a church that you feel connected to and have roots in. BUT, God will bless you if you earnestly follow what the Bible teaches and allow truth to lead your convictions. We left a church that did something similar to yours and feel that God BLESSED our decision more than we could have imagined.
      Does this help?

, Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”

It would be interesting to see Christian artists who first off would focus on the Word of God as text in their music. Such was the case with Petra in the early days; as well as Stryper (albeit their personal lives apparently weren't too good). Keith Green to me had scripture and conviction in the right place so that Christ truly was exalted; not hyped emotions; smoke and mirrors.
Too much is focused on "I" in Christian music (I probably said this before). His sufferings; His commandments; and example are only superficially referred to. As with the church; the industry of music doesn't want to offend anyone; and weed them out as Christ Himself when he told the disciples and others to count the cost and many left Him.
When the folk music came at first in the sixties; there were often gospel songs mixed in and there are many such examples going back into the 19th century. Interestingly; when we look at such a song as "we shall overcome" apparently it was tied into the labor movement originally. The spirit of humanism was the fatal flaw which at first shifted such music and scriptural lyrics into different ones (such as Peter Paul and Mary with "let my people go". Once change started; the vicissitudes of sinful men turned protests from nonviolent to violent; hence the causes went from racial equality which was justified; to dodging the draft which was not justified to open rebellion with the sexual and drug revolutions that ended that decade and took us into the 1970's.
My point here is that the CAUSE doesn't really take the Holy Spirit and what ARE appropriate emotions; and brings them together so that music can worship God with all of our heart; soul; mind and strength. Music is often dumbed down (notwithstanding some excellent new artists today with vocal skills such as Katy Nicole who hopefully keep good testimonies). There is that tendency to go into the "name it and claim it" and other such things. Spiritual warfare is the true meaning of worship in song; as we see with the song of Moses and Miriam and other times musicians were used in Israel's battles and victory celebrations along with dance. When Paul and Silas sang and rejoiced in prison that surely was met with opposition yet it had a powerful effect in heavenly places.
Many groups today like to do secular music along with their Christian songs (such as Michael W. Smith at times; and Mercy Me.) The sad truth is when more can be found in secular music (such as in an early Queen song "liar; liar) than in some of today's so called worship music. But to just play secular stuff; not to mention what's going down in Andy Stanley's church services is downright dangerous.
What we don't see in Christian music today is warnings about Satan's deception; warnings about sin; and there is a great lack of preaching against sins such as hypocricy; greed; gossip and other things that go on in many churches today. We need music to cover the treachery of false teaching; tares in the midst of the wheat etc. but alas discernment is all but gone wherever you go today. The world is good at picking out our faults; sometimes we should heed them over what lukewarm Christians have to say. To not be open to rebuke and correction shows we are not HIs children; as He rebukes all He loves. How often do we hear Christian artists admitting their sins; asking people to pray for them in the audience or during interviews or other such things? When do we hear of those musicians turning down acts with those who are living in unrepentant sin; or ministries with doctrinal errors; or challenging others to live godly in Christ Jesus?
And of course the 10,000 question where are those who are examples we can look up to from their missionary activities whether home or abroad (again; I mentioned Jeremy Camp for example in my last commentary as a rare example).
Thankfully; we have a group like Phillips; Craig and Dean who when asked stated (since they are all ministers); that they would give up music if need be. That would be a shame; given that an autistic kid started singing their stuff as it apparently had a powerful affect. Such music is simple and always performs better than expected with a solid Gospel message (although the Revelation song was not theirs; or Kari Jobe's; the lady who wrote it took almost 10 years to write what I would describe as one of the best worship songs I ever heard Jenny Riddle I think. It was written carefully to honor God. That should be the motivation of anything we call music praising God.
    Agape; RIch P.

I guess I'd rather you read 📚 the ESV or the MacArthur Study 📖 Bible than no Bible at all. But be warned, they do have strong Calvinist leanings. Especially, the MacArthur Study 📖 Bible Study! Johnny Mac is basically the Pope of Calvinism! Then again, to be fair, I do like the NASB and the NIV and they lean a little that way too. I guess you'd have to go back to the old King Jimmy Bible to find a translation that hasn't been touched by the tentacles of Calvinism. Though I don't want to fall into the King James only camp either. That has it's own set of issues as well. The modern English translations, in spite of the Calvinistic influences, are easier to read 📚 than the Ole King James Bible. I guess my point 👉 is that there is no 100 percent perfect translation unless you got a copy of the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. Every translation has it's strengths and weaknesses. Just be aware of those strengths 💪 and weaknesses when you read them. And do stay away from obviously heretical translations like the New World Translation (the Jehovah's Witnesses' Bible) and even bad paraphrase translations like the Passion or the Message translations

You have to read (1 John 1:8) the scripture in full context, but the meaning if we have no sin we would be lying, I would be lying if I said I had no sin in my life, and if God knows your heart he knows your mind he knows if you have a repeated heart or not, but again Love covers most sins (1 Peter 4:8) If we had to be actually sinnles Jesus died for nothing, the point in his death is he took our punishment through him we have everlasting life, I can give you so many scriptures that talks that Love fulfills the law (Roman's 13:8-10) (John 1:17) and (Acts 13:39) shows you the difference from the law of Moses and Jesus, Now (Roman's 8:3) among so many other scriptures said Jesus fulfilled it something no human can do he did, now we are under a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrew 8:7-13) you'll never see these scriptures preached in a church that I know of sadly. It talks about after the days of Jesus no longer will you tell your neighbors to know the Lord for I will be written on their heart says the Lord, but reading these scriptures you may understand what Jesus was saying when he said go in sin no more, it's because he will no longer sees the sin in you, but this is the problem when man teaches that all sin is equal and you must be sinnles, everyone of us will die in some kind of sin, but if we have true Love we will never committee the sins that lead to death, Man will try to take away what Jesus has already done for you let no man put you back into bondage, we are not a slave but free through Christ and by loving others we show we Love God and fulfil the law. Remember don't be discourage once your in Jesus nothing in all creation can separate you.

Its true. I work with several Christians and you would not believe the conversations we’ve had. Really funny when I was asked why I don’t believe in Jesus- my response... “who told you I don’t believe in him? “ Their reply?
      “You’re Jewish! “Lol.
The stunned look I get when I explain, I believe in Jesus, I just don’t believe the “Christian interpretation “ of him.
You’d would have thought I had shot the pope- lol.
There’s a big misunderstanding between the eastern and western culture, language and people that evolves into some huge discrepancies in understanding the bible.
Anyway didn’t mean to get off on a rant- shabbat Shalom!

Good video. But not all bibles are equal. After alot of research and prayer God has led me to believe the King James Bible is God's preserved Word. Unfortunately, it is the most attacked Bible today, even by pastors and Christian seminaries and colleges. No other bible translations claim they are God's preserved Word, even though God emphatically says He has preserved His Word! Ask your pastor if He believes the Bible you are using is the perfect Word of God and he will say no.

    • @scottfarm7
      @scottfarm7 2 роки тому +1

I would agree patty... The King James Bible is the preserved Word. The Niv was actually copied by men that did not believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and many versus about His deity are completely left out of that version. I was Catholic at one time and they had their own version... But we were discouraged to ever read it. My pastor has a saying that I think fits well here..."something that is different, is not the same" speaking of the endless different Bible versions. I cringe when I hear people quoting scriptures from other versions than the King James and at times you'd never know it was the same verse. Change a word and many times the original meaning gets changed.

I don't want seem like I'm judging but you should stick to KJV or at very least compare ESV with KJV. Because KJV as close to original greek text what bible were originally written. I seen several not good changes between even NKJV and KJV myself stay in KJV even there admittedly some words I do not understand. Also stay away from John McArthur He's a calvinist has like seven steps to be saved. Says salvation is a process. Any who says that has never read Romans.
