Spade Cooley was tops...no matter what. Love how Tex Williams takes a backseat for the chirp. Tex is the guy standing to the left of the bass player. Used to him on vocals for this number. Thanks for putting this gem out there.
@MichailZacho ..to MichailZacho - I agree with You. Celebrities are not much different than ordinary people. It's just that they are scrutinized a lot more. Every day on the news, I usually here of some senseless tragedy that never should have happened. Very emotionable us human beings. I also am supportive of this man who gave us so much Great Music. His family tragedy notwithstanding, He was a Great Musician.
After watching this I dug out an old book I'd had on country and "western" music. It stated that Cooley had been booked on a rape charge early in his career but had somehow been able to get out of it. There's an interesting clip on youtube detailing the murder case.
Wikipedia has some interesting notes about the murder of Cooley's wife and what his daughter witnessed. His last days were sad, but you do reap what you sow.
badbrian1 is right. Your Aunt is Great!!! - She has all the looks & talent to be a Star. ..new video clip to me even though it's old. Mostly I have always known this song by Spade with Tex Williams on the vocals. Great Video, Thanks for Sharing :)
Spade is a sociopath, he murdered his wife Mae, and their 14 year old daughter, Melody, was forced by Spade to witness the gruesome act. FUCK YOU Spade!!!!
And I very much like the soloist of the famous Susan Hayward (1917-1975). Look at her photo in his youth. And where else can you find out information and foto about your aunt?
Don't let that guy tarnish the memory of all these amazing musicians and singers, this is why this music and footage needs to be seen and heard, it was more than just Spade Cooley
@@saguarosamsrecordroundup8660who cares we are not talking about the others we are talking that sick pos SPADE ! Demonic maniac!! Its ppl like you is the reason he got away with turtering his wife for years ! Well he plays music well just let him do what he wants!! Gtfoh!!
I just watched the video of Spade doing "Miss Molly" and the comments are disabled. The Three Stooges are in it. Anyone have any info on that film? And by the way, Aunt Patsy is awesome and thanks so much for posting this!
I recently found a mysterious scrap of paper in a protective plastic case that belonged to my long lost grandmother, it had a message and signature written in pencil that said "Always your pal Spade Cooley" So I did some research on Mr. Cooley to see if the signature was legit. I was also curious about where the "Miss Molly" song came from too because it had the Stooges in it. It's from the film ROCKIN' IN THE ROCKIES (1945) threestooges.net/filmography/episode/225
I too am fascinated with this man. Today I own his violin, got it from my dad a long time ago. I am old & I would like to sell it. Anyone? jolupeke@wavecable.com I also wrote a poem about Spade. It is going in my book.
Allan Hansen My dad was Pat's older brother & basically took care of her & her younger brother, working 2-3 jobs. Dad never mentioned Pat having any career at all, maybe because he never knew? He only mentioned she & Mel Torme used to sing together when they were young teens - same age I think. I asked Pat a decade ago whatever happened. She replied, "I was hit by a truck!". That's something dad never mentioned either. She had a couple of kids shortly after, and that was it I guess. Kinda sad.
Yeah don't forget the sidemen who had nothing to do with that horrible murder. I think of them and the great music and good times people had dancing to them, not of Spade Cooley himself. He's not the whole story.
You had a beautiful aunt with charming facial expressions and an exciting voice.
Your Aunt Patsy is absolutely a living doll. Great song, best version I've heard. Thanks for sharing.
😀 beautiful, and beautiful voice.... those eyes... wow...
Patricia is a beautiful woman, and singer. Thanks for posting.
Your aunt is a living doll! Great pipes, too

Wonderful music.
Ms. McMahon should've been on the hit record. I'm glad Spade never hurt her. Thanks for posting. Great version1
Patsy was a knockout! Thanks for sharing.

Very cool. And, it was nice jamming with you on Tuesday!
Thanks for turning me on to this.
Never seen a harp in a western band, sounds very good!
I agree, but they overuse it on this soundie. The original hit did not have it. He also used two bass fiddles. One was white the other was black.
Great! Thanks for this archive, I'm fan of Joaquim Murphy!

He was a demonic monster ! And they stood by and let him do it ! His manger and her husband shold have went jail!!
I Live of memories.
And I very much like the soloist of the famous Susan Hayward (1917-1975). Look at her photo in his youth. And where else can you find out information and foto about your aunt?
She's so lovely. Cool harp too--bit unusual but it obviously worked.
you aunt is great!!
Cooley was an amazing musician, writer and entertainer. But there was this 'dark side'...
I don't know how an entertainer COULDN'T have a dark side. It's kinda their life's work - juggling an on-stage appearance vs real life struggles!
@@johnnyjingles - Seriously? What percentage of entertainers brutally murder their spouses while forcing their 14 year old kids to watch?
@@princeharming8963
Not saying Spade was the norm, thank god. Nor am I apologizing for that monster.
‘Dark side’ has many meanings.
Patsy was a great singer!
Not taking anything from Spade but the King of Western Swing will always be Bob Wills. Saying that doesn't mean that I don't like Spade cause I do
You are correct Sir👍
Spade was the devil!! Murdeing pos!
A harp?!?! You don't see that very often.
Spade,
Shame, shame on you.
You nothing but a murdering foo !

Thanks Fausto - playing w/ you was an absolute treat!
Stomped his wife to death. Nice.
Not up to me to judge the man. GREAT musician, and an incredible entertainer!
Love it, Thanks
My brother who has mental health issues really likes this song.
Once again the incomparable Joaquin Murphey on lap steel
Smokey is rhythm guitarist. Johnny Wise must be on lead guitar
a harp. wow!
My cousin was Spade Cooley.
I would never tell anyone that!! He was a murdering demonic pos
Spade was my cousin.
Love the clip. Thanks for sharing. A lot of folks don't know that the guitar player went on to play Kramer on the Jerry Seinfeld Show.
Hahaha
@@jamesgrannes1782 Glad you get my attempt at humor.
Brilliant
Is there Tex Williams beside the bass player?

Who's that on pedal steel guitar? I believe that Speedy West played steel for Spade, later, when he was on TV in the '50s.
That's not pedal steel. And the player is Joaquin Murphy. Hope I spelled his first name right.
It's actually her eyebrow that is doing the singing.
Patsy never made any recordings with Spade.Where did the rest of her career take her?
Allan Hansen

Yes yes.
Tex Williams next to bass.
That's not Patsy Montana.
That's disappointing. Tex Williams is standing there (he recorded the hit) and they have this girl do it for the soundie?
