I like journals with pockets integrated into the binding for things you may not be able to or want to glue on to the pages. This video was so helpful, I just drew a design in my neglected journal. Thank you for letting us see your mind on paper, Allie!

Thank you for this because I thought my drawings were not good enough from looking at other design sketches online. They always looked so professional compared to mine. Now I will continue with my doodles and my notes. I agree with using colored pencils, crayons as an adult to let your creativity out. I will have to get some graph paper to see if that helps the process. Really appreciate the video and the helpful information.

You could use dotted paper. It will help the sketches but won't overpower them

I have never kept a journal for beading or quilting. I never remember what I see on the videos I watch. This might just be the answer for me. Thank you.

Love this! I love journals and notebooks anyway😁. I am not an artist, or jewelry designer, by far. But, when I watch beading videos, I get good ideas about how I can change the pattern, or just change colors and do different things with those same beads. I just always feel i need to have a “jumping off” spot to get started. Going to dust off my prettiest journal to take with me on my cross country trip this month. Thank you!

I also use a design book. I started doing this early on. As a Writer I carried a book with me for potential story ideas and I took that into my jewelry and it helped me tremendously. Everything I've ever made is in note books

Just had an idea that you could do one side with the dots and one side with lined paper. And you could make is small purse size and refillable with and elastic sting through the booklets to add to the nice outer folder. Good luck !!

I have kept drawing journals for years but you are correct, adding the inspiration is an excellent idea. I also have started writing down instructions on recipe cards. Then, if I really want to create something but need beads, I can order. I then have a plastic shoe box with some of the ingredients. The name matches the recipe card. When I have everything I need, then I can proceed.
I do this for my ideas, your videos that I want to re create, etc. This really works well. Thanks Allie!

I would like a color wheel in a sketchbook/journal--maybe that would help me with putting colors schemes together. Also, I'm thinking I could add paint chips cards--that you use to pick paint? That would also help with color and designs , I'd imagine.

I am starting on! Ideas on a beading notebook, would be a bead guide almost! Like seed and duos and rivolis sizes! Pockets in back or front or both covers always a plus. A place for pen or pencil

Thank you Allie, I have no idea why I have not done this myself 😹😹when I went to collage learning dress designing many moons ago I always had a notebook with me 24/7 for outfits I wanted to make which I have done 80% of them, I even had notebooks for when I designed quilts with Mom. I have no idea why I have not done this for beading 😳😳I think because I have had an idea and rather than take notes I have gone right to my beads and sorted through them for my ideas and put the gathered beads into ziplock bags with a short note on the bag😹😹 thank you for reminding me of the power of the humble notebook 😹😹 as I have to use a walking frame 90% of the time I can keep it there and when I get an idea I can jot it down even when I’m working around the yard 😹😹

I’ve always kept a journal on the projects I make and I write what the project was, the designer, what beads were used, how much fireline or thread was used and if I have problems or did something different than the designer. It’s so helpful if I go back to remake it for a friend or to sell. It’s also fun to look back on my progress. I haven’t gotten to making my own designs yet but a notebook is a Fabulous idea, regardless. Thanks so much for all the information you share!

suggestion idea is to create a repositionable design component of actual size beads. perhaps basic colors and size options and some type of grid for layout.

I do that too, when ever someone suggest something they'd like to see made or if I see something that I like in the garden or down by the river, I watch video's and think of how I may have made that different.

I've been sketching ideas for my various craft projects for years and keep notebooks near me. But one thing that frustrates me is having an idea pop into my head while driving down the freeway and forgetting before I get somewhere to stop.😰😰😰

I have been doing a lot of freehand lately. I started off drawing ideas, then couldn’t make them work in practice. Mostly this was because I didn’t and still don’t really understand the bead sizes and how to measure out or calculate the right size beads. Do you actually measure out your beads and things when you design and keep it in your notebook? Am I going too far trying to keep all the bead sizes straight in my head and calculating the measurements in my designs? =)

I have always wanted books with the different beading graph papers so I can get my patterns down easier. They don't make brick/peyote sketch books.

There is graph paper note books. I've had to buy many over the years for my kids math classes. Go down to your local staples, target or even Walmart and they should have them
