- A warts and all, very disjointed fitting, from unboxing to set-up, with the odd break to work out where I went wrong or to double check! But it works perfectly, and was a lesson in reading instructions and watching UA-cam links!
Your video helped a lot ;)
I ordered than installed in 5'...
Works great in I3 Dec 2018 (screen to be also changed soon for a large one)
Thanks for watching! I'm glad it helped, that's what this video was for 😁👍
Dude you have NBT EVO head unit, you just needed to update the software on it and code CarPlay on. Might need activation code, from a dude on the internet or you can download the software if you know where to look, to make one.
Yes, I'm well aware of that, but I use Android, and hate Apple with a passion! My car has Car Play as stock, but it's not for me 😉👍
Thanks for your video. I like the real-time aspect of the video, showing that even a relatively easy process as advertised by the manufacturer still requires some back and forth for averages joes like me.
This MMI box breathes new life into used BMW i3’s who might have lost connectivity in several markets due to phase out of 3G networks by adding Android Auto, something all current day alternatives offer.
Now I've had it fitted for a week or so, I've learnt the way to operate it properly, and it's fantastic. I had an issue with the reversing camera not showing, bit that was operator error! I had reset one of the camera options, but a quick message to Gabor had that fixed in no time.
Hi, thanks for the video. I just bought Premium MMI V6 MKII. Not being used to the cables it did take me more than 2 minutes LOL! But after installing it it works brilliantly. No problem connecting to my iPhone. The biggest problem is putting the back seat back.
I looked at other options. But since you can install this under the back seat, and it works. I can highly recommend Premium Retrofit to anyone who would like to upgrade to carplay. I am really glad that I did not have to pull everything apart to connect via the glove compartment.
I think where you placed the MMI V6 is a good place. I placed mine on the other side, with some light padding to secure it.
I have a second hand 2022 i3S and what really annoys me is why BMW had CarPlay as an extra option when ordering the car. CarPlay should have come installed as part of the package. Also the fact that even though it is a pretty easy upgrade, why BMW blatantly refuses to retrofit CarPlay? Especially since their idrive 6 is pretty outdated and their maps are inferior to what CarPlay is able to offer. I think that this part is just arrogant and very poor service from BMW.
I still love the i3S, it is so much fun to drive. Not sure if my next car will be a BMW though, now they have stopped making the i3 101.
Now I'm more used to the controls is brilliant! A couple of days and it's second nature. A great addition to an i3. Yes, a shame they don't make an equivalent car, but I think it would be too expensive to produce now?
They also sell a rearview camera for this box, does anyone know how easy it is to install that too?
I have the factory rear camera fitted, which works as normal. But I'm tempted to fit a front camera!
The rearview camera is nowhere near as easy to fit as this. You will need to take off the rear bumper and wire stuff under the boot floor
@FunFactsAboutTech agreed. I already had a factory OEM rear camera, so it switches automatically. I did consider a front camera, but it's a lot of work for little benefit with parking sensors.
@@MrDesmonick yea agree. Mine just has front and rear sensors so I just ordered the v6 box and usb lead. I can live without the cameras although they would be nice
@@FunFactsAboutTech Just a quick update, I bought the box with the rear camera and can confirm your comment. It was kinda messy. I had to send multiple emails to their support, because I was unsure how I should actually wire it, the support was great, they always answered fast and sent me a pdf manual with pictures. The manual was easy to understand, but I quickly realized that I don't want to deal with that stuff, so I asked a mechanic to help me. This guy knows his stuff and it still took over an hour. But it was worth it, because now it's done by a professional. I would not recommend anyone to order the camera unless you already worked with cars before or you are ready to pay some extra money for help.
