  • Thanks for watching the season finale of GRIT last week, this was definitely a tough trip for us, but we learned a lot and got the chance to hunt to pretty extreme weather changes that allowed us to observe how deer deal with this during the peak rut.
In this Hunt Recap, we focus on the buck encounters we had and how weather affected us on this hunt.
It was peak rut so this is obvious, but our buck encounters were all around primary doe bedding areas. Some of the does have been bred at this point, so bucks are making their rounds looking for other does still in heat. If you know of areas that hold good numbers of does, that's probably where you need to be mid November.
Bucks also start checking scrapes again this time of year so that's a great place to set up especially if you can find a community scrape adjacent to bedding.
Rattling is a great option this time year. We've had years down in this area where we couldn't smack the antlers together without having a buck come in. Doing this mid morning on ridge tops has been most effective for us. Something important to consider if you decide to try this is how the buck will move in to check what's going on. Almost every time we've done this, the buck moves into the top of the adjacent drainage where the wind swirls so they can check the ridge top above.
Lastly, major weather events can impact deer movement even during the rut. If the weather event is extreme enough, it will shift deer concentrations to food, and in this area the hot food source is certainly cut corn fields.
As always thank you for watching!! If you have any questions, drop a comment on the video and we will get back to you asap!

So I have one of your saddles. Sometimes I get a little nervous that deer can see me easier than my treestands because I’m leaning away from the trees, even when sitting still.
    Any thoughts??
I do love the Method 2, perfectly engineered.
