I built a site-to-site routed VPN between my winter residence in Mexico and my summer residence in the USA on DD-WRT and OpenVPN many years ago. That was a challenge! Now I am thinking about replacing that system with GL iNET router and or gateway. While in Mexico we connect to the ISP's router via WiFi to get significantly faster speed. But, when we need VPN services we connect to the VPN router which is daisy chained to the ISP's router by simply changing what SSID I connect to in Mexico. Changing to WireGuard should improve speed over OpenVPN. If I need to bypass VPN services, how could I do that with a GL iNET system? In my existing system speed was the usual reason to bypass VPN services. But, some websites - like Home Depot and WalMart will redirect me to stores where I am not. Specifically, what fails if the GL iNET device is NOT directly connected to the Internet? Would Port Forwarding get around it? Or, is this a difference between VPN Server and VPN Client?
