I'm a proud Panther from across campus and I'm so excited about this collaboration as well. I have brothers and a nephew who are graduates of the House!
Finally, and thank you. When I moved from Argentina to US, the first place I lived was Atlanta. My best friend from Peru was working at City Hall in the urban planning department. Thru her, I learned the incredible leadership of Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. who was a graduate from Morehouse College. His vision (like your vision of the American Dream) changed Atlanta forever, and for the best! I also had the opportunity to work in an African American architectural firm that had several graduates from Morehouse College and Spelman College, so I know first hand how bright and accomplished they were and they are. It is time that designers take notes, for one thing, at least in the firm I worked, they were elegant, fashionable and very creative with their outfits- always.
When you attend an HBCU, you join a legacy of Black excellence. A legacy that you can pass down to your children and your children’s children. HBCUs are so much more than places you go to get your degree. There’s that, of course, but there is so much more. The culture, experiences, academics, shared struggle, survival, hope, aspiration, brilliance, entrepreneurship, innovation, sophistication. I’m so glad to be FAMU! ✊🏿
Mine as well. Although I did not attend a HBCU, this means the world to me. RL is my absolute favorite designer and to have them recognize our heritage means the world.
@@wgibson1454 Absolutely, always exciting and new with him. I could honestly wear his clothes for the rest of my life. Not to mention how to mix and match his many clothing lines.
I'm still supporting the small black businesses and entrepreneurs who show up at homecoming and sporting events to sell HBCU gear. We gotta stop giving our culture away.
@@misskatzlife5892 So our culture becomes honored when they decide it's profitable to acknowledge us? We don't have to wait for them to honor our culture.
Yes. Black people have been historically (not so much now🙄) taught by family members to dress nice. Others can dress down and be called "casual " whereas our elders would have been called "sloppy."
I used to work for Ralph Lauren at Polo Ralph Lauren in grapevine Texas. I'm from South fort Worth. It took over an hour to get there. I would sing a song from Willy Wonka when I would be out on the floor helping the customers. Come with me and you'll see in to a world up your imagination. I was very honored to be a part of everything that makes up Ralph Lauren. It's people like me it's people who come to know when people who have always known about or going to know about I'm not just trying to sell you a suit. I'm trying to sell you the only suit you will ever wear. And it's fabulous it's wonderful. I no longer work for Ralph Lauren and I'm extremely unhappy. I worked at the store 464 under Jonathan and Kylie. Jonathan and Kylie do not understand people. What's the point in interviewing someone when you don't understand them. Various many people like Ralph Lauren just said. He is happy to be a part of it and in the aspects of what he is happy to be a part of come from many different variables. Some of the people in this video can be autistic. Some can be gay. Some can even be atheist. The point is that we are all different living our lives in a way that makes us happy. What's the point in going to school and taking classes and doing all that study work if that's not what you want in life. Judge Judy said. If you find something that makes you happy and you're able to make money out of it you're not working. You are having a play day. I am a very flamboyant boy I grew up wearing dresses. I do not like men I do not understand man. It takes a very special man for me to be able to style. When it comes to the women the ladies. The sky is the limit when it comes to style. When you're constantly being put to do something that you don't like and Jonathan and Kylie don't care to hear it then you're not having a play day you're not having fun you're not living in the world of imagination of Ralph Lauren that is shared by many and for all. I wish that policy would change so I could have my employment back
The goal of this partnership/ campaign is what? How many employees does RL have that are graduates of HCBUs? What else Is RL contributing to these universities? Will there be scholarships? Internships? What about support of African American designers? This just feels wrong to me.... too little too late to me.... I’m sorry.
Within RL, the lead and orginator for this idea is a Morehouse alumnus who also worked with a Spelman alumna and other members of the RL team to bring forth this collection. The company has also announced a donation to both school’s endowment fund.
Okay... and don’t these HBCUs already have a large deeply funded endowments? And aren’t there other HBCUs that embrace the “American Dream” i.e Howard University? It would have been nice to see a capsule collection for all of the HBCUs with a different spotlight on the history and celebration of Black Culture. But let’s be honest.... Polo has been apart of Urban culture for decades.... whether it was African Americans wearing it to work, wearing it on the street... yes even the dope boys in my neighborhood wore Polo... matter of fact Polo was trending as far back as high school for me... so people been wearing Polo... in a lot of places other than than these to universities.... it just feels so forced and transparent. And for the the love of God can we stop this romanticism with this petty coat, gentry, good day madam, we shall overcome era??? It is 2022 when are we going to start sharing our current and future stories?
I read that only 2 million would be donated between 12 HBCU’s … Now considering how much they are going to generate off of this campaign ( 3 or 4 times more) I think that’s a slap in the face to those colleges!
Spelman Alum here!! Can’t wait to get my hands on this 😭🙌🏽❤️
As a Morehouse grad, I am glad to see this collaboration. Great job to all of the Spelman and Morehouse folks involved in this campaign.

This needs to be shown at every school in this country. I'm 55 years old and came away enlightened.
Excellent!!! Much love to Ralph Lauren and their partnership with Morehouse and Spelman Colleges. Most Sincerely,
FAMU Rattler Chelsea

My uncle finished Morehouse in the 40s. I hope to purchase an item for him. I also appreciate this trailer and will share it.
I love this, great job

Mr Lauren you are the best, you do everything very elegantly and in a classic style. It is certainly a brand for people with refined taste.

PERFECTION!!!!!!
This is beautiful. G Phi indeed.
How much will the Ralph Lauren corporation endow Morehouse and Spelman? Both colleges can use the support!
Both colleges was created by white people and named after white people
They were?
Polo Ralph Lauren could not use the name without the institution’s permission ($).
So was fashion at the HBCUs that different from the white colleges? This will be interesting.
Yes. Black people have been historically (not so much now🙄) taught by family members to dress nice. Others can dress down and be called "casual " whereas our elders would have been called "sloppy."
YOU KNOW WE UPGRADE EVERYTHING LOL
If Polo gives us a “DuBois Hall” hoodie tho...🔥🔥🔥🔥
omg
Hell yeah!!!

I’m hoping this is just the beginning of what would ultimately involve all the schools for years to come.
I also hope the institutions are participating in a profit sharing program.
