- This song and MV were really good and I enjoyed it. I do see the controversy in the lyrics of the song. I personally don't think they meant it the way it can come across in the U.S. but let me know what you guys think in the comment section down below. As English-speaking Korean, we did used to use a term “baking a CD” a lot, which is referring to “ripping a CD”. But nobody really rips CDs nowadays and even younger generations in Korea are not familiar with that term anymore.
I do understand the context of having cookie referring to a CD, especially considering the fact that Newjeans’ music and styles are highly influenced by those from the late 90s. But I still don’t really get the very last part of the lyrics which sounds still weird and the producers definitely should’ve double-checked how that specific Korean term could be reflected to English-speaking listeners. It’s good that they take extra cautions after the controversies though!

In Korean, the process of transferring music files from the computer to an empty CD is referred to as 'CD를 굽다,' which translates to 'burning a CD.' The term might have originated from the similarity between this process and the act of baking cookies, as CDs are also round in shape. Therefore, some visual representations in music videos have associated CDs with cookies.
It's important to note that Korean culture differs significantly from Western Anglophone culture in various aspects. In Korea, the metaphorical connection between food and sexual connotations is not as common as it is in Western culture. While some objects like clams(It is considered to resemble the shape of female genitalia), '조리퐁' (Korean Snack, Jjoripong, same reason with clams), or eels(It is believed to be good for male stamina.) might be considered symbolic in certain contexts, the association is limited compared to Western examples.
In Korea, '쿠키' (cookie) is often used as a metaphor for 'cute' things rather than representing female genitalia. When Koreans think of cookies, they generally associate it with young or cute individuals looking at cute-shaped cookies in cafes, not with female genitalia.
As a Korean familiar with Western culture, especially enthusiastic about American music, movies, and dramas, I can confidently state that I don't believe the New jeans song '쿠키Cookie' was intended to have any double meaning related to female genitalia. The producer of New Jeans, Min Hee-jin, has explicitly explained the intentions behind the lyrics, which are well-argued and based on solid reasoning.
If there is any criticism, it should focus on whether companies like ADOR have done their due diligence regarding the global impact of the term 'cookie' and its potential double meanings.

At first, I was listening to the song knowing the lyrics but I viewed it innocently like someone baking homemade cookies for a lover. However, once those dirty-minded haters mention the lyrics it makes me think that way so I think is not New Jeans producer's fault is actually how you view the lyrics that is just people being dirty-minded

If you want to still go down the kpop rabbit hole then may I recommend: Billlie (yes three Ls), Fromis_9, EXO, NCT groups, Kiss of Life, Le Sserafim, Red Velvet (this is an older group), NMIXX, and Aespa. These are a few of my personal favorite groups aside from Newjeans. Kiss of Life just debuted a couple weeks ago, but they are very good and talented. Their debut song "Shhh" got almost 12 million views in one week. I will warn you there are 4 music video predebute release song solos from each member and 1 predebute combined music video that put a story together. If you go straight to "Shhh" it might be confusing. I personally love Natty's solo "Sugarcoat".
Billlie, Fromis_9, and Kiss of Life are less popular...but they are my favorite of all. Le Sserafim, NMIXX, EXO, and Aespa are probably the most popular of the ones I really like. They are safer to react to and might get you more views since they have large fanbases like Newjeans. The guy group EXO just released Cream Soda a couple weeks ago. I really like it, but again...the lyrics have inuendo in them. They are all adults this time though. NCT DREAM also just released "ISTJ" its also popular right now and I like it.
(G)I-DLE, IVE, and Stray Kids have also been pretty popular this year. I like their songs...but I don't love them. They are SUPER popular though. Jimin (BTS) and Jisoo (Blackpink) are soloists from groups that have been blowing up this year too.

It really wouldn't be that bad if in this video 4 of them were not under 18. If they were adults I wouldn't care at all. At the time Hyein, Haerin, and even Danielle and Hanni were not even 18 yet. Hyein is 14 here!!! Kpop is also known for being a little less sexual than most music in the western world. Just look at Cardi B, Niki Minaj, Doja Cat, and other hiphop/rap artists in the western world. Compared to them this song if it even means what it sounds like is NOTHING. WAP from Cardi B is pretty direct! but Cardi B is 30...not 14.🤣

There are a lot of comments explaining the Korean context and while I understand the meaning, it's the overall packaging that's off putting. The random "taste it" type of adlibs, sung in lower register with vocal fry, the way the members are directed here, everything is wrong. If the meaning is as innocent as baking cookies then they could have simple made it cuter. People genuinely had no reason to be turned off otherwise.
I've been listening to K-pop for 13 years now and have seen many young innocent kids singing highly suggestive songs. Mostly they're masked but it's still very problematic. No one is hating on the girls, no one will. We are just...protective.
