Flight: If you are taking an International Flight, you can buy a max of 2 liters of alcohol from duty-free shops and carry in handbags. There is no duty-free shop in domestic departure.
If you are buying outside the airport, you can carry a max of 5 liters of liquor in the check-in baggage. There are also state rules, so if your state doesn’t allow alcohol like Gujrat and Bihar, then it will be illegal to carry to these places.
Another important point to note is that this shall be carried in a sealed condition in check-in baggage. If the bottle is open, then it will not be allowed to be carried.

Yes Moses is, right.. In our Karnataka Border even you have permit ...Still excise people don't allow even 2 Bottle in a Car. If there is a family in the car generally they don't stop .. But i never knew if we could take 5 bottle by flight..this is really an information to me..

flight might be safe but the commandos at the checkup are behaving so rudely taking all the bottles out from the bag even though flight is moving ... this similar situation faced by my friend recently and on he's observation .. commandos were treating everyone same with their rude behaviour not listening to our words making us wait even though we have permit .. i dont know why ?? may be they started thinking that all guys will travel goa only for liquor .. which seems so cheap and narrow from a trained commandos .. whats your take on this bro ??

Moses, we in Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli get a permit from excise department. They take very long time for that but I got a permit for Lonavala,Maharashtra. So technically can’t we get the same permit from Goa to take to Daman? By the way the rates are cheaper here as well but we don’t get some higher end brands nowadays. I still have the copy of the permit. I can share it with you

Oh, yes. It's so expensive in other states of India. For example cabo costs 600 in Goa it's 2000 in Pune.

In Maharashtra you can not carry Goa Liquor bcoz in Maharashtra Bombay Prohibition Act is applied . Under this act it's illegal to transport liquor from Goa across border ..this is non-bailable criminal offence and will land the person carrying straight into jail ..

Liked your honesty in telling ppl that by road at your risk. i stay in Bangalore, so i have experienced this checking but nowadays they don't literally check bags they just ask do you have alcohol if you say no thru walk off my recent experience in jan 2021

I paid 100/- per bottle and sneaked in our bottles in the MH border via road. We we're stopped since all of us were stags but they were barely checking cars with families.
The best route would be via train or flight.

Hey Moses, I have an unrelated question: I've encountered a situation at the airport where the baggage handler was trying to extort money: prior to boarding the plane he basically said "give me 100 rupees" or I won't put the luggage on the plane. Does a traveller have any option to report this type of malfeasance? When one is employed, there should be rules governing comportment/behaviour.

Initially whenever our family traveled by road we were never checked at the check post( via chorla ghat). But for the past 2 years they have been stopping us for checking but to their bad luck they can't get any liquor bottles from us as we never carry any liquor. 😀😀😀😀

We came last month we took 2bottles and we have the permit with us as well, we have not faced any problem at Goa border the officer just checked with the permit and let us go but after crossing the border and entering Karnataka the officer first asked how many bottles we said 2 he directly said ok 200Rs and we are free to go !
