Yes! on the trays and boxes. I've found boxes inexpensively during sales at Michaels, Staples, Office Depot, and Ikea. I've found great unfinished trays that I can DIY to my own look at Michaels, Joann Fabrics, or other places that sell unfinished wood pieces. Thrift stores are also great places to hunt for trays.
One other trick I use for inexpensive, chic decor is to purchase certain grocery items like tea or spices sold in decorative tins in ethnic markets or while traveling. The consumable product is usually the greatest portion of the cost, but the tin is often highly re-usable and can represent a very personal style statement as well as capture memories. I use mine for office supplies and other small, unattractive hardware supplies, but stored in full sight.

Whether you go to Dollar Tree, a thrift store, Home Goods, etc. It’s about the item’s potential and how it is styled. I shop all over but some of my most beautiful decor items and glassware were picked up at my neighborhood thrift. And yes, go to different depts in the store. The garden and kitchen depts have great things that go well in other rooms of the home. Why pay top dollar when you can create a gorgeous home on a budget?

For books to decorate with I love to go to thrift shops. I’ve found so many beautiful books for just a few dollars! You can always paint them too if you want them to all be one specific color.

It is sad to see people demote books to a decor commodity. Books are for reading, loving, and reflection, and "display" because they are meaningful. Anything else seems incredibly shallow...

Or, cover the books in gift wrapping paper if you want them to look the same on the shelf.

Haha, Kiva! I love how you just roll off that everything in your home doesn't have to be "a true reflection of your innate feelings about the world". Too true! That is overwhelming to some & can stop you from making any design decisions at all.

I'm glad you got the mic, but you're still yelling in your videos (in the beginning of a segment, then losing voice toward the end/transition).
I really loved this video because it really does bring classy decor to anyone's home, and weirdly enough, so much of this stuff I've already been doing (on an extreme budget) in the past couple of years, it feels like home.
    Thank you for the video!

Love IKEA for its DIY potential. Super functional pieces that can be completely transformed to look designer. Another super easy DIY that I did is my headboard. Just some 3x1 boards from Home Depot, rattan, and walnut wood stain saved me $200 from having to buy the exact same headboard. I try to DIY as much as I can. Saves me a mint and it makes for a great hobby.

You are spot on with the attitude toward décor, it also applies to clothing and food. I had a friend rave on our home made Giradelli shorbet when she had passed us the recipe....we used Hersheys. Visit libraries to keep them available to all.

The moss in the faux plant is such a good idea! I can't have real plants because my cat eats any plant I've tried bringing in & the plants I would prefer to have anyway are toxic to cats. I've been thinking about just buying faux plants but wasn't sure how they'd look but the moss would make such a big difference

Thankyou for saying that home decor can just be to look nice and doesn’t have to have some sort of storey behind it. Especially when on a tight budget you just want your home to look nice and cosy just because without having to have a particular theme or reason behind it.
