- I organised a charity fundraiser for my cousin on 22.04.2011 for over 200 people. It was a rugby themed sportsmans evening and the guest speaker was the legendary Andy Gregory. I put this movie together ,which was played on two giant screens on the night, as a reminder for the lads who went of just how prolific Andy was as a player. The game will probably never see the likes again. Hope you enjoy my tribute to Andy Gregory - true gentleman and true Rugby League legend.....
The best number 7 ever, best pair of hands in rugby league
one of the most talented halfbacks ever to grace the field. Creative genius, tough little bugger. Legendary performances in 88 and 90 at wembley. Always gave his time for free, heart of gold.
My favourite player of all time ,he could wind forwards up like no one else ,just by walking round the back of the scrum telling the opposition forwards what he was going to do to them!
The guy was quite simply a rugby genius and by far my favourite player at Wigan. Coupled with this, he is a true gentleman and even when at the top of his game always took time to chat with anyone who approached him. This is a great video.
Completely respect your opinion regarding rugby legends euroextrovert. Rugby aside though, any fella that gives up his time for free, to talk at a dinner that raises £9000 for a terminally ill girl who he doesnt even know, is a TRUE legend as far as I'm concerned ;0)
Very competitive half was Mr Gregory he made every half he came up against work hard if they wanted the win as much as he did ... one of GBs best
He is a class man and was a class player.I haven't a bad thing to say about the guy.
Greg was a legend of his era. Not the biggest bloke on the pitch but could his own with anybody and was respected by everybody he played against. He didn't always play to his best against the Aussies but alot of others around his era couldn't do either and no wonder when they had Miles, Meninga, Langer and the great Wally Lewis
My favourite SH of ALL. A master in masterful team.
Met him a few times in his brief time at the Steelers. Can't wait to catch up with him in the UK at some time. Leave tomorrow, coming back to do some RL stuff.
Gill, Hampson and Hanley were my favourites but Gregory topped the bill
An amazing player who didn't celebrate too much, just played with grit and won a lot. He epitomises character.
I'll never forget him getting sent off at Salford for throwing the ball at the refs head and also he was sat behind me at Wembley to watch Wigan Athletic win the FA Cup, both of us smiling and shaking hands at that joy
A true Wigan legend
Brilliant tribute thank you xx
Thankyou for this. Great video
this is a pleasure to watch!!
Had he'd been playing in this years WC Final England would be World Champions... that's how close that game was and also how great this bloke truely was!
Agreed. There is not a single British half back in the game today that is fit to lace Gregs boots. He was all action and demanded the players around him run into the right holes at the right time. If you needed a defence unlocking, Greg could do it. He and Shaun Edwards where the perfect combination for many years at Wigan and complimented each other to absolute perfection. I dont think ive ever seen a better suited half back pairing. This video is missing the great try he set up for Sam Panapa V Penrith in the WCC with one of most beautiful passes ive ever seen.
@@johnm400uk Spot on. Andy and Shaun fed off each other as if they could read each other's minds.
Genius
Cracking player with amazingly depth hands and
had the heart of a lion 🦁
#chemics 🏉
I had the pleasure to have a pint with Greg every week in Widnes, what a bloke, forget the rugby, lovely man
I played at St pats as a junior and remember when Andy said he wanted to give us a talk before a big game then came into the changing rooms and just told us about a fight he had with a rottweiler the night before then he lifted he's t shirt and had an hole in he's side where he had been bitten my coach at the time was Gary owen and he was trying to get him to go to hospital but all andy was interested in was who was buying him a pint it was a good story but at 13 years old it frightened us more then get us up for the game 😂 😂 😂 😂
Genius , maverick, game changing magician. Tough as teak ,mind you he was as tall as he was wide.. Legend
Remember as a kid in my Leeds shirt running on the pitch at full time and asking Gregory for his tie ups when he was at Widnes he gave me them and said all ya mates are gonna beat you up now kid 😂 I played and used them tue up for years
