Takara Tomy's figures are literally the same figures, made in the same factories, with the same plastics and quality control, just different (and sometimes better) paint. I think something that often helps create the illusion that Takara's stuff is "better" in other ways than paint is because oftentimes, they release their releases of some toys after Hasbro does, so they have time (and possibly feedback) to correct issues with Hasbro's release of it; whenever Hasbro and Takara are releasing something at the same time, the two different versions are never that different outside of paint. The only reason this toy has better paint than Hasbro's originals is because this is specifically a repaint for a limited line with a higher paint budget.
I remember picking up the original Evasion Mode Prime, and absolutely fell in love with the figure. Good to see the old figure is still doing the rounds.

I like the Wei Jiang version of this mold better, especially the one with battle-damaged colors. Not sure if you've seen that one or not; it really is very nice.
Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the problem with the light piping in the original Hasbro Evasion Optimus is that the plastic for it is clear WHITE. And among the figures that had light piping, they used that clear white plastic for ALL OF THEM. I know that Evasion Optimus & High Octane Bumblebee both use it, as well as both versions of AoE Leader class Optimus (meaning unless a miracle happens, the repaint version "Shadow Spark" Optimus Prime for The Last Knight will be this way as well).
From what I saw at the toy fair... This new MB line from Takara actually looks pretty awesome, especially for standard retail releases. If I were to collect any of the main line figures it would be those. They all look pretty solid.

Definitive version of this figure, by far. It truly is amazing what a nice paint-job can do. It can make a good figure into a great one. Highly recommended.
It's more appropriate to compare this one to the premium AOE Evasion repaints, either Hasbro's or Takara's. They captured the worn look even more successfully and yes, they had nice tight joints.
Have to admit, I'm digging the rusty look for him, but seeing him in the movie, he had the more tan look on him than the traditional red & blue, that we know him for.
It's pretty nice repaint of the original Evasion Optimus Prime, but for movie accuracy, I'd probably opt for the junk heap version where Prime is more rusted and whiter, but it does not take away the fact that this version is also quite cool, can't wait to see how the other figures will look in this line, very nice review!

How to complete your DotM Voyager Megatron: buy Evasion mode optimus prime, *toss aside figure* and perfectly peg the shotgun in Megatron's hand. What were they thinking NOT giving Megatron his shotgun as an accessory back 2011? maybe it was just because of the mech tech gimmick, but it would've made the figure so much better with it.

Actually it's still not accurate for instance he's supposed to be a rusty white or rusty tan, there were no blue parts or red that were shown in the movie but I still think this is the best Optimus prime figure from aoe
you know something I never understood about this figure and in the movie why in vehicle mode does he have one smokestack but then when he transforms he has two doesn't make much sense
Can anyone say with 100% certainty which colour is Evasion Opzimus in the movie? Seems to me like he was red with a white strip which had red flames and the lower part had blue flames?
i'm not going to rant, but this figure isn't movie accurate almost at all. he really isn't that color, more of a dirty white with bullet holes (the toys R us exclusive look almost better) . But in robot mode, they almost nail it! but not enough rust. i'm not trying to be picky, but in his robot mode, its like a REALLY DARK blue and almost faint red, not the colors we see here. There are some highlights of white and also like i said, more rust. Almost like the truck is thousands of years old. But in this toy, Takara on my part, did bad
clearly you never got a hold of the aoe breakout battle set back in 2014. It came with a figure called scrapyard Optimus prime. Which is more movie accurate.
I really like the breakout battle optimus prime and the MB-01. They're both not that accurate, because in the movie the vehicle mode is grey with a layer of beige dust and if you look really good you can see the white stripe of the G1 optimus. And the robot mode is a bright red and blue with rust and again a layer of beige dust, so a mix between the breakout battle and the takara AD-02 would be the most accurate but unfortunately it doesn't exist : (
I can't see myself getting any of these. The only takara figures I have are Ad31 and Darkside Soundwave. Some of the Kos have good paint jobs at 1/3 the cost.
I was pretty disappointment that there was no leader size evasion mode optimus & megs, by far my favorite representations of the characters from the movies (until I get my hands on the new TLK Leader Megs)

Haha now Takara have made 3 versions of this: The Rusty Version, The Bumblebee solo movie legendary Optimus Prime, and this one

The gun handle placement is frustrating but I put it in the opposite hand so I can make it look like he is holding the handle in the other hand
The handle that he can’t use is there because it is compatible with the DOTM voyager Megatron.

You should get a hold of the WeiJiang M-01 Commander. It's a great rendition of this mold and has additional parts that this figure didn't have.

his head and legs were slightly blue, not as blue as this one but still blue
