Good guess. Like everything else in production, sound selection is a skill you learn over time. That shit was difficult for me in the beginning, but I believe it was because I just didn't have the sounds I needed. Once I got more it seemed to come easier, although I'm far from mastering it. Trial and error is the best way to learn imo
apologies for the late reply but the other two replies summed it up perfectly! what personally helps me is to sing or hum (im terrible at it) to help with what im trying to manifest. singing, humming leads, or terribly beatboxing have helped me a lot when im trying to get something down or coming up with ideas. trust yourself and good luck friend!
ill try my best! i try my best to replicate the sounds/chords i have in my head onto my daw. experiementing and messing around with sounds and chords help a lot!
everytime i follow a beat tutorial i rlly gotta sit there for a second, look at what i made, look back at the video and go "this is NOT what mine sounds like" ☠☠☠
if they sound good i'll usually keep it and keep building onto them until i feel like its a complete melody/beat! if i feel like theres too much going on in the beat, then ill do the opposite and cut stuff out
