I will ask politely about the reason for her upset. I also ensure that I have given all the information she needs for her follow up care at home like wound care, if any, medication administration- including timing - next GP appointment and consultant review. If her concern is regarding the after care of discharge I would clarify all her doubts and make sure she is comfortable for the discharge. If she is concerned about her mobility assistance or personal care I would refer her to the social worker or local home care agencies and ensure she is getting all the support she needs. If she concerned about anything beyond the management of myself I will inform to the in charge and discharge planners to sort it out.

Being a new staff nurse is always stressfull. When I deal with a new staff nurse I definitely make sure that I have oriented her about the clinical area and staff members which would help her to familiarise with the regular staff members. I would also encourage her to ask doubts or any concerns and motivate her interaction with the clinical team to alleviate her shyness. I also informed the other co-workers about her shyness and encourange them to participate her for any voluntary ward activities to make her active in the ward. Moreover I make her to understand her active participation pays a vital role in the team work and shyness may ruin the effectiveness of team spirit. I believe that all those things will help her to be active in the ward.
