I have spent a considerable amount of time watching videos recorded about the tsunami, seen truly horrific scenes which virtually defy comprehension, such is their magnitude, yet this video has more of an impact in so many ways! The utterly stark horror of what has gone is truly shocking to see, in comparison to how beautiful, vibrant and normal it once was! This touchingly beautiful film is also hauntingly tragic, and it stands as a memorial to what has been so brutally taken from this community. Thank you for taking the time to create this important historic film.

The comparison between the old and new footage of the Japanese landscape before and after March 11 of last year really shows how destructive the tsunami was. Not many buildings left but I hope Japan will be able to rebuilt all the cities that were affected.
Unbelievable footage of before & after. It was just cleared out. So horrible. I couldnt imagine it. It just breaks my heart to see this & to think the people who lived there r gone. I dont know but its just frightening to see. I dont know how they r coping but they I guess have no other choice but to move on which even to me is How do u.
I am from Seattle. 陸前高田 - Rikuzentakata - is a name unfamiliar to me until 2011-3-11. I have learned much of what happened there when the waters came in, and my heart goes out to all who are affected by it. This video allows me to understand in a new way. The beautiful place had much taken by the sea, but the people of Japan, will make 陸前高田 beautiful again. If it's possible to prevent the sea from returning again, may it be the great innovative minds of the Japanese who will find the way.
過去の映像って本当貴重ですよね。私は東北には行った事がないですが、地元の方にとっては今はない昔の姿が映像だけでも見れることってとてもありがたいと思います。

先週仕事をやめて無職になり、
やっと時間ができたので真っ先に三陸に向かいました。
かつては私「娘さんをください！」ビビりながら元嫁さんの実家に御願いに上がりました、
思いで深い場所です。
一本松近くの道の駅「高田松原」付近は3回ほど通りました。
まだ廃墟となってしまった5階建ての市営住宅？や小学校などが残ってました。
高田より仙台方向は、たとえば震災のことを何も知らない子供がみたら、
津波が来たことに気がつかないかもしれません。
しかし高田に来ればいやでもわかっちゃいます。
三陸自動車道が開通した南三陸町は活気が出てきました！
さんさん商店街は平日朝でも人がたくさん(信じられないくらいです)いました。
三陸自動車道工事の皆様！
一日でも早く開通お願いします！

中学の時に泊まった野外活動センターも、何年か後にその時の同級生と一緒に釣りに来て迷って入った街並みも、帰りに一緒に食べたラーメン屋も、全部何もかも流された・・・

貴重な映像をありがとうございます。私は一関から盛岡に５年前越してきました。陸前高田市には親戚が５軒あり、全部被災しましたが、このような映像を見れて懐かしくて感動しました。また時々視聴させて頂きます。
どれだけの被害が有ったのか、とても良く分かる映像を有り難うございます。先日、陸前高田に行きましたが、震災から10年経ったので、この映像にない建物もあり、確実に復興しているんだな…と再度思いました。

破壊尽くしたわけですね。 新しい家もかなりありましたが、全て跡形も無く破壊
された。 いままで見た映像で一番残酷で恐ろしいです。
橋以降の家の方は、まさかここまで津波が来るとは思っていなかったのでは。

二年前のコメントですが、気にかけてくださる方がいらっしゃると思うと、嬉しいです。
今では復興も進み、街に色が戻って来たように感じています。
震災時は、私はまだ幼く、記憶もおぼろげです。飲料水などがなく、川の水を飲んで水中毒になったことは覚えています。何度も何度も吐いて、死にたいと思った記憶があります。
私以上の苦労をした方は、私が思っている以上に多いと思います。
今でも、地震が怖いです。地震が来ると、胸が痛くなり、手が震えます。軽度の地震恐怖症になったのだと思います。
何を伝えたかったのか、わからなくなって来ました……(^^;
改めて、気にかけてくださってありがとうございます。そして、二年前のコメントに返信をして、ごめんなさい。

1月1日に陸前高田市を見て来ましたが、今日、震災以前の画像を見て再び衝撃を受けました。
多くの罪もない命と共に、“街”という人々の生活の集合体も消えてしまったかのようです。
被災された方々に取り、かけがえのない人を失った事、帰る故郷を失った事の二重の苦痛を受けているのだと実感しました。
心の故郷は、津波によって形が変えられたのかも知れません。
それでも、一日でも早く、被災者の許に舞い戻って来る事を祈らずにはいられません。
上が現在で、下が開拓時代に見えてしまう・・・
地元の人でなくとも衝撃ですね。

私は、先日現地を訪れまして、市仮庁舎前のバス停から、この映像の道路を通って丸一日市街地を歩いてきました。
３：２０の右側に物産センターができていて、そこでおみやげを買いました。
４：０５の右階段で休憩し、
４：０８の立体交差橋の下で夕立の雨宿りをしました。
バス停の近くで大きなシカに出会いました。
もとの街をまったく知らない私にとっては、上の画面と比較して、在りし日の平和な家々の姿を呆然としながら目で追うばかりです。
復興を祈りつつ、またそのうちに訪問したいと思っています。

他のところは復興進んでるな〜と思うんだけど、、、
確か2011年の6月頃、岩手県の浄土ヶ浜へ仮説住宅の施工手伝いで行き、陸前高田にも視察に行きました。現状を見て、あ然としました。携帯のナビを見ながら現地と照らし合わせてかなりショックが大きかったです。
日本政府は、義援金や国民から集めた復興税を別の目的で使用してる事に対しても憤りを感じています。
でも、いつか、必ず復興出来ると思っています。
