My drill sargent told me before I repelled down, "private I don't think this line can hold your weight, now get off my tower."
big fatty
😂
You being fr? Now I’m scared.. I’m a big dude in the process of joining lol
You'll be fine so long as you don't quit and show heart. Oh, buy a really good pair of new running shoes brand like brooks or hoka to bring with you. I was really big when I joined up, but by the time we did repeling, I was actually a lean mean green fighting machine. But the drill sargents liked to mess with me from time to time as i was still a big boy. All in good fun. Remember, don't quit, and do as you're told unless you want real special attention paid to you.
@@artzilla3 we do not want the special attention😂
Remember crying like a bitch during this. And my DS made me climb back and redo the tower until I could rappel down in one jump.
One of my favorite memories next to the gas chamber.
Hey good stuff on getting it done! I saw it a lot! 👍🏻
Really? That's weird.. My Jewish grandfather said he had a terrible time in the gas chambers.. 🤣
Would be considered hazing now a days. Sad times.
@@JustSomeGuy-xe2mfI mean all you’d have to do it go see a Chaplin and bitch nowadays to being hazed. They’ve become really weak on shit like that..
Why is it that we all call the gas chamber one of our favorite memories.
I can see them from my house. Lol. The gun training keeps me up but at least i know I'm safe! Thank y'all! 💯

Safe. Right.
That's a bedtime lullaby, what you talking about.
When I did it my drill sergeant was kind enough to provide a good 20 feet of slack in the rope.
He proceeded to let me freefall for the length of the slack in the rope, thus ending my fear of heights.
I hate heights but with harness and gear I'm crazy go everywhere I can lol. No harness I lock up hit the deck
basic training stories. laugh out loud. 😘
@@danrilett2749 homie I deployed twice. Chill.
Just showing respect for a DS that joined the 22.

Ive demonstrated to ROTC cadets and Trainees. I love being on the rappel tower, and I love demonstrating its not all bad. I also love saying “you know, even if you do fall, you’ll probably die instantly, or at least get knocked out and wake up on some serious pain meds” 😂
I enjoyed the two cycles I was there and got to see the legit terror in those faces lol and the few who “refused” and ultimately went down after a lot of 😭 ! Good stuff 👍🏻
Thank you for your service
Did this sophomore year in hs, went down upside down with the harness on backwards, the instructor called it Hollywood style, one of my favorite memories
I was there, summer 1994 with JROTC in Columbus as part of the Leadership Training Course. We rappelled off the 60 ft tower, open face side. Good times.
Went with my JROTC to a fort near San Antonio (think it was Bragg or something), and we did this also. Definitely fun
I did this in JROTC at Paris island. The instructor made me do it twice when he saw I was scared shitless😂
@@justiceofbook Bragg is nowhere near san antonio
@@IMBLACKDAMMIT them rotc guys don't know shit 🤣. I remember Bragg, the good Ole days
Was at Ft. Jackson. Unfortunately it was hot as hades that day and a bunch of people passed out during navigation. They canceled rappelling and made us take freezing showers instead 😪😂
Love rappelling. Ended up in the 101 and got plenty of it ⛩
Hooah! Air Assault!
I’ll be joining the army soon. What is the process to joining Airborne? Had a lot of family in the air during WW2 and wanted to follow in their footsteps
@Milk if you haven't signed your contract yet you can get it in your contract. If you have lol you might not be able to go. They offer a few slots to top PT guys

Good old Benning.. I always like the idea that I trained at some of the same ranges that my grandfather did in like the 40,s or 50's
Did that like 8 weeks ago same exact spot just graduated today
Congratulations on graduating 👍🏻 🎉

At Fort Sill basic training the old tower was getting torn down and the new one was under construction, so we all went through the tiny 12 foot demonstration tower and called it a day 💀
You got cheated. Lol
Fr? I was there like 10 months ago and I went down the big ass one
@@highsyndrome7166 I went in early 2021 so it was probably the new one that was still being built when I was in
1 of my favorite parts of basic training.
The rappel tower, obstacle course, teamwork course, and all the other shit like this were my favorite parts of basic training. The hanging rope before the obstacle course was my jam. I didnt j hook and just used my upper body to go all the way up and back down. Being only 120 lbs had its FEW advantages.
Remember when my dad was a ds and family day came around and we got to go down the tower best memory of Benning back in 06
I always loved working with the ropes rappelling and fast ropes best thing I ever learned.
Did this in civvie street with my kids some years after leaving service. Civvies really not keen on ex-mil running down face-first. Loved all rope work and parachuting.
The first thing that popped into my head after doing it was just “this is something literally everyone can do as long as they have a sense of direction. Its really nice and easy
I loved going down these
Went to SFAS, and they did a rappel demonstration for those who never did it before. They wanted to show that the belay would stop/slow you down if you lost control. The instructors demonstrated a "controlled fall." The rappelling instructor yelled,"belay," the belay guy responded with "on belay." The instructor then yelled,"Falling." The on belay guy had too much slack in the line. By the time the belay guy tightened the line, the instructor, who was on that "controlled fall," had broken his ankle. I've done it numerous times before and understood the assignment, but I looked around afterwards and the faces on some of those SFAS candidates were priceless. But what was even better was the face of the instructor who broke his ankle towards the guy "on belay." Kudos to the instructor who broke his ankle, he remained professional through the end.
The very first time I did the tower (marine recruit training) I just did it. Didn’t give it any thought. instructor said look back to see if the person is down there doing there job and step down and go. It was a little rattling at first but after you get over that heart drop feeling it’s smooth sailing.
I loved repel tower I didn't serve but took military science we got to represent it was awesome, when they asked me to wave didn't want to let go
My DS demonstrated running down the wall after we finished. Fun day.
We did the same shit in my technical rescue class for fire school, loved all of it
Loved every minute of this
I love it when the Drills run down the tower
Love love loved this repelling is an amazing feeling did air assault school too that shits awesome
One of my favorites weeks at MCRD
except our tower is better huh 😏 my platoon went down via the hell hole
One of the funnest days of basic. Did mine at Jackson in summer of 1990.
Those first few times are tricky being so nervous…He did a good job 👍
Gotta love Eagle tower miss fort Benning B247.
Looks like a lot has changed. My rappel at Benning was off a tower that had a mocked up mock up of a helicopter on top and when you stepped out, you stepped on the skid. We didn’t use the side with the wood, it was just open and you could see the steps. We also didn’t have belay devices, we made the harness from the rope from what I remember. That was in 1999 lol.
One of the funnest things i did in OSUT. I remember rubbing up against the DS by accident as i leaned back to make my rappel and he screamed "don't f*cking touch me, Private!" And pushed me off the tower 🤣🤣
That looks like a blast!🦾
I got to watch a reserve drill sgts that came in to cover one of our regular drill sgts for a couple weeks start his repel and then proceed to drop like a lead weight to the ground. Needless to say, that was the last time we saw him. Messed himself up nicely.
This looks so fun
Definitely one of those things that’s 1000x scarier when it comes down to it ha
I first learned to rappel when I was 15 as a fire explorer. Have rappelled off of bridges for water rescues, cliffs and mountains and a few buildings. The only bad thing is the nut pinch when have to make a rig on the fly because I didn't have enough for everybody to use.
Week 1 basic training. Will never forget tredwell tower in ft sill Oklahoma. Only got to do it once😕
Never gonna forget Eagle Tower. C 1/50 graduated 2007
That was so fun!
I did Victory Tower in Ft. Jackson 👍🏼
When I rappeled off eagle tower I remember hearing the drill say “who the fuck is that looking like a Call of Dudy character, 206?!? Good shit!” 😂
I did this at boy scout camp. They didn't like it and said I came down too fast. I loved it! There was a side for climbing and I flew up it faster than anybody. The swimming I wasn't as good at. I got a lifeguard badge, but not the mile swim.
I like the helicopter rail side goin upside down
They threw a dummy off the top when we were getting ready to do it 🤣and that tight ass harness you had to wear😭😂💪
It's the Eagle Tower. Say it right. Man this brought back memories. I didn't think I'd ever see the Eagle Tower again. We rucked there and back from the barracks.
Also, they didn't care how many jumps you used to get to the bottom when I was there. Me and a few guys did it in one jump. Not a word from the 1SGT
I loved going Down that
One of the best things I ever heard was one of the guys working the tower tell a cadet that his D ring had the wrong code on it and the one he had wasn’t supposed to be used when repelling… after he was in the L position.
I KNOW WHERE THIS IS, good old fort benning. One of the few fun days in basic, too bad it was about 100° that day and there's a rock pit that we got smoked in for hours just past those bleachers lmao.
Am I the only one that immediately thought "that looks extremely fun"
I was in basic at Benning in 07 this was one of my favorite things to do was repel
I love repelling. Was in Boy Scouts for a few years and got lucky enough to repel a few times. Unfortunately the tower gets a little boring after a while so I had to find my way to artificial rock climbing so when I get to the top I can jump up and slap the bell at the top before letting my body fall and use the repelling system and bounce down.
Used be in the cadets in high school and absolutely loved abseiling. Did one class in grade 12 where we went on a camp and got to do massive cliff abseil. While patiently waiting for my turn and listening to more than a dozen classmates break down due to how high they were, my teacher came up to me tried to get in my head saying shit like "you scared Johnston? You're really high up, I hope you don't fall"
Little did he know I've abseiled the exact cliff multiple times in the last year in cadets. When it came my time to hook in and go I ever gracefully descended like a fucking pro. My teacher was shocked that me and my buddy were the only ones out of like 50 to not shit themselves. We then told him we do this shit all the time
oh my god thank you for your service cadet! that story showed true heroism and was so badass
That looks fun.
Loved the eagle tower!!
"Get off my tower." Memories...wow!
I did this tower when I went to OCS 1982. My TAC officer was shocked I did so well since I was a medic, but hey I cut my rapel teeth in Alaska.
Man do I miss Benning
I remember those days as a grunt... 81,
Eagle Tower. I did that back in 2007. Great times!!! B Co 3/330 my unit not around anymore.
I hated the Weather. When I went in, we were going through the end of a hurricane so it was just hot, most, Wet, and sticky feeling the entire time. Not to mention it was during The Forge so it sucked. Felt like a fat guy. Thighs were making sparks 😂
This was fun.
Looks like fun
Rappelling is so fun 😂
The scariest part of Parris Island for me. At the top, my legs folded and I almost went upside down 😂
Outstanding
Good job!!!!
The one thing I’m looking forward to redoing
That “It’s tight” tho 😈😩😂
Two ropes is so different than one 😂
Summer of 2014. Had to be a BB for a guy on sick call who had to get a ingrown toenail removed. So we missed doing this. OR SO I THOUGHT!!! A week later me a toenail guy get yoinked out of BRM and had to go do it with another cycle. Thankfully no one from our company got to see me and toenail's tears of freedom from the 5 of 6 times the other company's DS's made us conquer or fears until our DS came and got us to regroup with Bravo company. Ahh good times
The tower is a “critical” event. Those damn ingrown toe nails! But good story and good stuff! 👍🏻
We learned repelling in high school on a 75' tower
God damn I love America 🫵🫡🇺🇲🤜🏻🤛🏻
I went down that exact tower and it was scary asf letting go
This will be fun to do next summer as plan atm is to do army basic training next summer before senior year starts
Almost everyone has terrified looks on their faces that day! But hey good luck man! It’ll be here and over before you know it!
Man that was so much fun. I was at relaxin' Jackson though 😆 then to ft Knox for ait
Never seen drill sergeants be so nice ! We basically were pushed off and yelled at for falling wrong
That’s because I’m an officer and I work there with them.
This looks like fun
It is and it's not. That tie around your waist/ sack and hips hurt like fuck
Swiss seat hurts like a mofo but otherwise it’s fun
Omfg the most fun day!!!!!
“Don’t worry, if you fall there’s rubber chips down there”
Roger that DS.
I did this in JCLC for JROTC on a 60 foot tower and made it down in 2 jumps. The guy that was assigned to the 60 foot tower was very impressed 😂 this shh is so easy
Hell yea ran past there a couple weeks ago for our eagle run
Remember doing this 1990 A co 1/19th
We did this in the fire academy but our tower wasn't as tall
Looks fun as hell..
Lmao good memories. We had a kid so frightened, crying uncontrollably wouldn’t go down. It Looked like trying to get a toddler to jump in a pool. DS were at the bottom with their phones out filming him 😂 Hope you got through that trauma Whitney.
I can't count how many firefights I was involved in, but I will take firefights over this any day of the week. I was trembling so bad up on that tower. Luckily I did it right the first time and didn't get sent back to do another one.
I remember body slamming the tower doing my first big jump lol
Happens to the best ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I messed up my first open side rappel my first time too
My son is there now ❤❤..
That's some fancy gear. I don't know about now but the Marine Corps only gets a carabiner and a rope to make a swiss seat.
Looks different from when I was at Benning. we had rope going up north ladders. the drill sergeants mocked an thirty-eight-year-old recruit when he snapped his leg inside the rope attempting to ascend
Man I wish my drill instructors were this patient with me. All they told me was left hand guide hand, right hand death grip and proceeded to kick me off the tower 😂
For the record I was cadre and an Officer. Trainees do not have this kind of interaction.
I did this when i was like 12 years old...probably was the coolest and scariest thing ever. Obv wasn't military but it was some sort of military school and Christian type things, got to meet the douger family too. Cant remember where but it was in texas
This shit was fun.
Good job
Ahh victory tower.. the nostalgia
They did this whole demo then my drill Sargent put like 20 feet of slack in the line and pushed me off by my forehead while doing his best impression of a televangelist , “you are healed! By the power of Jesus”
Fort Benning was so fun basic training was fucking week for the first few weeks and then they completely fucked us up lol. We were the first iteration in 2009 to have a low stress high information type basic training and that shit did not work so about a quarter of the way through they were so pissed off at everybody all of the recruits they completely annihilated everybody beating the shit out of people, actually knocking people out. It was amazing, I was one of the studs and all the studs could just sit back and watch everybody get fucked up for being a fucking idiot if they were. It was legendary. I had such a good basic training iteration they turned us into soldiers real quick. I love the army so much it was the best job ever had but I’m lucky to be alive after Afghanistan two deployments. Now I live the good life. God bless all of our soldiers who have the guts to at least serve. Love of country!!!
Oh that's nice you guys get actual harnesses. The Marines taught us to make a harness out of a rope lol
They also learn the Swiss seat too
My drill Sargents screamed at me the hole time during the repel even tho I zoomed through it
I remember one of the senior drills (old bat burly s.o.b.) doing the demo, aussie style, full sprint then stopped on a dime just before hitting face first. Freaked us the fuck out. 😳
