Everyone has an accent. Just because you have a Malaysian accent doesn’t mean your English is any poorer than one who speaks with so-called the ‘standard’ way. I am proud to speak the same way as Michelle, and I don’t believe my English is poor.

@@KennyL1 It's obvious that her native (first) language is not English. Like I said, this is not a criticism. Accents can add a certain charm. If somebody can speak 2 or more language fluently, they're winners in my book.

Her English is definitely excellent. The accent doesn't matter at all as long as the messages she is trying to convey are clear and understandable. Malaysia english is based on British standards. Commonly, Malaysians have no trouble of communicating in english at all. She was educated in UK back in then and that's why she speaks English fluently and proficiently.

As an Asean members, we have our own way to learn English, being proud and confident with our accents, regardless of nationality, race and background.
Just like Android phone's Google Voice Assistant setting, we can now change the English Accent to India, Philippines, Singapore and we really hope that Google can add in Malaysian English Accent soon.
C'mon, we have about 655 milion people in Asean region, twice as much as US population. We're multiracial and diverse multicultural, but yet we still can achieve harmony society, in which is hardly seen in US. Michelle Yeoh was born in Malaysia, but she studied ballet in England starting at the age of 15. As a result, she has a good British accent. To be honest, some white people have underestimated us and other minorities. Just because they can speak a bit of Chinese, they think they are fluent. In my opinion, it's important for people of all backgrounds to approach other cultures with humility, respect, and a willingness to learn. While it's natural to have preconceived notions or limited knowledge about a particular culture, it's important to recognize that stereotypes and generalizations can be harmful and inaccurate.

Her family speaks English. Her first language is English despite the fact that the extended family is bilingual. This qualifies her as a native English speaker. Her father was a UK educated lawyer in Malaysia. She would have being educated in English in primary and in secondary schools. She was also sent to UK in her late teens. Malaysian native English speaking persons have variety of accents. Hers is not really unique and probably hers is slighlty more UK accented than the average native English speaking Malaysians.

I disagree that we should've just stuck with one accent as we all know not many people understand why I should say it in this way, not That way...
When I was younger, I didn't even know England and America were not in the same country ...
On top of all that pronouncement and grammar, ADHD and dyslexia were one of my problems, because I remember things from what people told me not from reading books.
Being Malaysian is already tough, being disabled Malaysian even much tougher...
So the world is now looking at us, we or I, quite afraid to see what further than I can give if I let people know I'm Malaysian Chinese! 😅😅😅😅😅
