They tried to screw me. I will not go back to them. My 21 epic Evo expert with 40 mi gave me a whopping 3800 for store credit so you know what it looked like for cash etc. Absolutely not! Went elsewhere and got $5800 after fees before their lowball offer expired. I understand they are convenient but this offer was horrible. No scratches, knobbies still on tires etc. wasn’t even close to reasonable.
I've tried their service for 3 of my last bikes over the previous 2 years. Their offers are consistently about 40%-50% lower than what you would get selling it yourself. If you aren't in a rush, you are way betting going the Pinkbike or FB Marketplace route. Would never sell them a bike.
@@chasepalpatine170 not to mention their used bike prices are almost full retail prices - total rip off. But kudos to them. They've built a pretty solid business.
A year late on this comment... they just offered me $25 less for the whole bike than I paid for the frame while it was on discount. Bike was ridden like six times... don't like how the geometry feels.
Three years ago, I sold my one year old 2018 Chisel Expert to the pros closet. Soooo much easier than private party. Listed on Pick Bike and only got strange responses with no real offers. With PC, peace of mind (no fear of dealing with a stranger - and getting jacked). Received about 60% of the original retail price. Took cash and used funds to purchase a new bike. I'd do it again.
I do the same, I sell bikes for a great price, they tend to sell fast. But when I do get a stupidly low ball offer, I mess with them. I get a kick out of messing with people who are asking really unreasonable offers
As a fellow NE resident, I'm pretty sure this video was designed to make us sad as I sit here surrounded by snow and freezing temps. However, I forgive you because I like your shirt. You'll Never Walk Alone!
Sometimes convenience wins out over waiting for the right offer. I'm actually considering buying a bike from Pros closet just for that reason, I don't have too much time to shop around and being able to just click and have it in a few days is tempting.
One of my buddies sold a bike recently and decided to check what he could get on there and it was several hundred more than what he sold it for. I’ll definitely run my stuff through there to see before I post.
Yeah I sold my 2017 Devinci on TPC for dealer credit, it was totally smooth. For me, the speed and not having to deal with strangers from pinkbike or Facebook was totally worth a slight discount. One note is that you have to choose the shop you want to work with for dealer credit first, you can't accept the dealer trade in and then choose the shop that has the bike you want afterwards. So I went with Bike Barn since my N+1 is gonna be a Chameleon (shout out Hardtail Party). The Bike Barn mechanics did the boxing for free too. 🤙
No, I wouldn't use the pros closet. I asked them for an offer on a new Moots I had built up, but I couldn't get it to fit right. Frame cost $3600 new they offered me $1200 cash. I sold it for $2500
there are so so many sellers that claim 'like new', 'rode in driveway only', 'couldnt ride because of injury',... it looks like PC has some contractual terms to help reduce their exposure as compared to average public that wants a low price to justify their perceived risk.
Do not forget that in most cases 2nd hand bikes come with no warranty (lifetime frame in many cases). I essentially 1/2 the new RRP price to come up with a 2nd hand price.
I really can't believe how many people go through them, no offense to you of course! I get its easy. This past winter I sold a basically brand new S-Works Tarmac SL7 and thought I'd give TPC a shot for the easy way out until they offered me less than half of retail for a bike with 6 miles on it. Hard to accept when you know their going to throw it up for sale at basically retail on their site. But good to hear you at least had a positive experience with it all.
Yeah I agree with you the offers are low. I saw the same bike as mine up for $3600. www.theproscloset.com/products/2022-trek-top-fuel-8-l $900 profit pretty good
@@jctrails Surprised at that markup. Really hard to make money selling anything unless you go for 50% more than what you paid. Rent, consumables, salaries, cc fees eat up that profit very quickly. Perhaps they had a good experience selling that model and knew it would go quickly.
The TPC has considerable overhead and isn't a non-profit org. A business model that provides convenience. Ps. it's now 2023... bicycle market in the US is crashing BIG time.
If someone put that up on pinkbike in a straight medium they would ask $6000 for it. It is insanely frustrating, same big in a large you will find hot deals.... Size medium.... $1000 more then what they bought it for 4 years ago.
It's there loss. $ 3200 is very responsible compared to what bikes go for. Well I had no idea 😕 hit me up next time am with a group of old timers that are starting to want bikes am the youngest at 65 .And love the new Era of mtb .
After the nightmares I've had selling bikes online - I'm considering this again. They gave me a reasonable offer last time, but my bike shop who does a trade up program with them said they were getting a lot of bikes sent back or the Pro's closet reneging on offers. I don't know if this true, but it scared me off, but thinking of trying it again.
@@jctrails You and Pinkbike and my local NJ trails as well as my own personal likes for a short-travel poppy bike got me sold on a 2022 Top Fuel...and even though I am 5'10" can't go M/L after a tryout at the LBS-large just felt right. Anyway, should find a 9.7 sometime in 2023!...or drive all the way up to Syracuse to spring for the 9.8xt available if I get impatient. Great vids-thanks!!
I've never sold a bike on PC, but I did buy one from them a couple of years ago. I got a very good deal, awesome service, and a great bike!

Just out of curiosity where did you go for the better offer? I want to sell my bike, thanks!
@@robg.9832 I had it on FB and Pinkbike. Ended up selling on PB.
Their offers are on the lowers side, but just like any other business they are trying to maximize their profits.
Sounds like the gamestop of bikes

Yeah, agree. They are really only useful for those that don’t have patience to sell with another service.

Aluminum...a little heavier, truly a lifetime bike and the piece of mind knowing a rock strike won't shatter it... Priceless.
Aluminum cracks and can’t be repaired. It’s only lifetime if you got a lifetime warranty.
Aluminum can be welded

Yeah it’s an easy transaction for sure, but you do lose potential profits from selling it yourself.
Some of us know bikes.... most DONT know bikes, this video proves everything!
Pros closet gave me a strong offer for my bike. It’s nice not having to deal with all the tire kickers

first message: "sooo whats the absolute lowest you will go?"

That’s a good idea! I’m surprised the pros closet offered him more. He must of listed for cheap.
So much of it depends on the bike and components.

I always wondered how the process worked with them? Great video and much appreciated! Thank you!

You have to go off age and condition of the bike too.
Awesome thanks for this. I plan on going through the process for the first time with PC. Where did you get the box for the bike?
They wouldn't even give me an offer for my specialized carbon 27.5 enduro!
I feel like the offer was reasonable all said and done
It’s not terrible factoring in shipping and all.
Hmmm. I just listed my Stumpy on Craigslist, but I might give this a go. Not looking forward to the lowballing, but it’s part of the game.
Nice great vid and insight 👏🏼😎
Yeah a quick vid on another way to sell your bike.

hah, sounds sus to me
What your favourite trail bike either short or 150mm travel that climbs as good as it descends?
I wish I had 3200 bucks for a bike. Pretty happy with my pawn shop special
Did you like the top fuel 8 more than the ripley af? Why?
Great info, thanks.
Idiots is an understatement, I sold them some wheels awesome to deal with actually
hey man, I loved this video, THANKS!!!
Thanks

What you riding now
I’m glad somebody had a good experience with them.
The Pros Closet is an absolute low ball offer business.
So glad I am a large! Would of paid your asking!
Next time I will do a better job advertising my bikes on my social media. I really want to get the bikes I sell to find a good home.
