    Hello Morten. I don’t have an aptitude for this depth of technology. But even though I don’t understand this I gave it a “Like” ! It is a good thing the world has brilliant people like you to figure all these things out…I like your Christmas decoration! Have a good week.

    Thanks to you, I've actually bought their 6-bay NAS last week for backups. Their UI is not quite as polished as a certain competitor, but the hardware itself is really solid. It's now been running pegged at 100% for several days (building the TRAID with 6x8TB and transferring all backups via rsync) without any hiccups.

      So now you have an idea of how to expand to bigger drives.

    Terramaster hardware has been superior for 2 years now. Glad to see the software is getting up there. The down side hard to actually purchase one in Europe.

    If you had a TerraMaster D8 Hybrid DAS you could probably add another four HDDs and another four NVMe SSDs. You could probably extend the TRAID by four HDDs, although, that probably wouldn’t be a good idea.

      @MyPlayHouse  Місяць тому

      Humm yarh,, that would probably be possible.

      @@MyPlayHouse For what it’s worth, I just received my TerraMaster D8 Hybrid DAS and have started testing it out. My UGreen DXP8800 Plus NAS doesn’t seem to like it much as it throws out a connection error. I suspect the problem is the UGOS as the D8 works fine with PC and Mac. I’ll test it with a QNAP NAS next. Only the first two SATA bays support RAID (0 and 1) but an OS like Windows or MacOS can use software RAID for all 4 SATA ports,…probably NVMe as well. Not sure a NAS OS can actually setup a volume / RAID array on it though. I don’t own a TerraMaster NAS so I couldn’t say for sure

    I agree from my testing Terramaster has certainly come along way. I need to get one of these and try Promox on it could be a really nice little virtual machine like the F8 SSD but with a bit more under the hood.

    intresting fact about traid. it dont matter what order you put the drives it will work anyway. i aktually tested it on my t6-423 pull them out and put them in diffrent places xD still worked.
    i tried to the same on synology but that did not work. so i guess synology needs to have exact same order

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  Місяць тому

      Okay cool! I do think this should work with Synology.

      @@MyPlayHouse i dunno we tried on two diffrent synology putting drives in diffrent order and they refused. not sure what is the cause of it but it works on terramaster :)

    Just verified it. Apparently the TerraMaster D8 says it right on the product page: “Unlock Infinite NAS Space
    The D8 Hybrid is an ideal choice for expanding the NAS capacity of a home or small office. Simply connect the D8 Hybrid to the USB port of your NAS device, and you can easily expand the NAS storage space.
    You can even use the D8 Hybrid as an external DAS storage device for TerraMaster NAS. Both TOS 5 and the latest TOS 6 systems support creating new volumes using the four HDDs and four M.2 SSDs of the D8 Hybrid, and utilizing the full range of TerraMaster NAS storage features, such as setting up storage pools, various RAID modes, and enabling snapshots. “.
    One has to wonder if TOS 5 or 6 would do that with any USB external drive.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  Місяць тому +1

      Okay that is cool!!
      But I must admit,, If I think I would need more than 72TB (3* 24TB in R5) I would go for a 6 or 8 bay :-)

    I am using intel RST and microsoft storage spaces but I have never tested them before. Now all of my storage pool are full so I can't test to see whether they actually keep my data intact if one of the drive failed or what to do when replacing the drive. I ran out of money to buy more drives for now.
    Both microsoft storage spaces and synology doesn't allow to reduce the pool size (from 4 drives to 2 drives) without destroying the old pool and making a new one. I wished I knew this before the time came when I need to use the drives for another purpose.

    • @miyukiyotsuba7379
      @miyukiyotsuba7379 Місяць тому +1

      I added a 16TB drive to an existing dual 6TB drives synology nas (shared with my boss). Now I can't pull the drive out because that would cause problems for my boss as we can't destroy the pool.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  Місяць тому +1

      No,, taking drives out,, is harder, and you might have to backup tha data, and start over with the array.

    no ecc ram can be a problem for the TRAID, one of the reasons Synology uses ECC ram for their SHR RIAD That being said I like this little NAS, except the price :(
