Ok, here's my two cents. Im not sure if it was the camera, but I didnt hear any woodwinds, maybe it was me. Both bands came out a little rocky, but SU demolished MVSU on the first two rounds. I guess that nervousness/excitement must wore off of MVSU because round 3 and 4 they sounded musically better than SU. Round 5 SU showed who TF they were BUT MVSU is sending a CLEAR message to the SWAC lol, so a tie for round 5.If I had to give it to one band, it would be MVSU. Now, Im sorry but MVSU trumpets was on SU AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I think MVSU upper brass and Tubas did their thing. SU lower brass got the win today! SU TROMBONES!!!!!!!! Sheesh
I know what youre trying to say about MVSU arrangements but they played music from the 60s-2023. So, Im not sure if this is what they are thinking but "range" maybe? SU is still the truth and that goes without saying, but Im sorry.......I dont see a complete massacre. SU got the W but those 1st two arrangements hurt MVSU.
MVSU held their own versus SU and they will be a force to be reckon with in the fall!

The best thing for Valley would be to establish old Valley style(not the corps style pre 1995) but take that, make it tight and unique. Dont BE Dega West and dont attempt to be SU and CHALLENGE those musicians with arrangements and music. All that rich blues, jazz, and r&b history in the Delta could do alot musically in that program.

Got it now. Simple fix for Valley is to make uniform releases and phrasing or more cogesive phrasing. Even with their arrangements being pretty easy, phrasing would clean it up and set off all that damn brass.
