- With a belly full of coffee and breakfast I leave Ashland, Wisconsin, behind in the best mood. Heavy trucking traffic makes for a very entertaining but difficult half day before I get onto the Tri-County Commuter Trail where I find myself totally isolated but struggle to get thru it because of loose gravel and sand. In due time I reach Superior and ride over the Richard Bong Bridge and into Duluth, Minnesota.

Come along for the ride and see what kind of adventures are around every turn of the road while bicycle touring. This opportunity is for all of us to have and I hope that my passion for bicycle touring and creating this type of content will drive some of you to go give it a try someday, if you are not already. Hi Jon. Super cool you can destress watching my episodes. Thanks for being a nurse and subscribing. Also for helping me out with my channel by sharing it and commenting, it sure grows slower than I would like. My editing is definitely a work in progress. Before my first tour I had never used a GoPro, drone, or ever spoken into a camera in my life this way. After gathering the content at the end of season 1, I had to buy a computer and editing software and learn to edit from scratch. Most of my friends call me a hermit and were very surprised I decided to tackle this project. Your positive attitude comment is highly appreciated. I believe in solution based thinking when possible and if not it is because you just can't control everything so you gotta let it go 🙂. The other comment about winter coming is very true and soon enough you'll watch me in serious weather climbing some of the highest passes in the country in Colorado. Hope you are having a great week. I sure wish that you did not have to contend with those log trucks. They are dangerous. Some are loaded well. Others have bolts projecting from the sides that can take your head off. I rode a four inch edge to work every day for years and had far too many close shaves with trucks. By the way, construction of the extension trail from 4 Mile Road to Grayling on the Iron Belle has begun. I am sure that it will be crushed limestone rather than paved. It will provide a bypass of I75 and connection to the trail as it progresses north toward Mackinaw. Keep pedaling and hoping for paved rail trails.
Hi Robert. That's great to hear. I had originally planned to tour thru Michigan on the Iron Belle Trail and changed my mind at the last minute. Next time I will be going that route and that should give me the entire Lower Peninsula experience. The trucks are ok. Just have to be hyper alert and keep an eye on the rear view mirror at all times. Thankfully there was a gravel shoulder next to the narrow paved one. Thank you for saying hello.
I've ridden across that bridge to get a picture in Wisconsin after crossing Minnesota! Loved touring through Minnesota to Duluth and North. Thanks for sharing. Once again it is an awesome video. I lived on the west side of Minnesota north of Fargo, North Dakota about 70 miles so I'm looking forward to how you get down to Fargo. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Diego, your videos have become a part of my Monday mornings. You do such a good job with the video and narration. I was on the Armstrong, PA Rail Trail yesterday where you crashed and went skinny dippy for your GoPro Camera then on to Pittsburgh. (Still my favorite episode so far). I had my first crash yesterday on that trail. Frist in 5,400 miles since I started riding again. I got distracted and clipped one of the posts in the middle of rail trails to stop cars. Bruised shin and ego. Keep the videos coming!
So sorry you had an accident. It's crazy how that can happen all of the sudden. Cycling is actually quite the dangerous activity. Please stay safe out there and do not clip or get clipped by anything from now on. The Pittsburgh episode is my favorite also. It was also a great experience but there are insane episodes coming up especially once I start riding over the Rockies in Colorado. I've been watching all the videos and had to catch up on a few at one time. (I was on a Bike and Barge Tour in the Netherlands for a week and then the next week I explored by train and foot-all was fun). Since my brother lives in Iron River, I watched the last 2 with special interest. My brother and I also had stayed at Prentice Park in Ashland where the Sea to Sea Bike tour stopped for the weekend. Jim lives 7 miles south of the center of Iron River. We rode back roads between Iron River and Ashland. I asked him about Angie's Bakery, but I haven't heard back yet. Next time I visit him and his family, I'll have to stop there. Jim and I were biking the Mississippi River Trail when you were in Iron River area.

Hi Sue. That is really cool you have cycled so much around Iron River and Ashland. I really enjoyed the area. Didn't know your brother lived there but I do remember you going with him and another cyclist on the Mississippi River Trail around he same time I was at Iron River. Your Netherlands experience sounds amazing. I'm wanting to go to Europe next tour but the USA keeps calling me for more. I'm very much interested in documenting all the states and I think I can do them all in two more tours including Alaska and Hawaii. We'll see. Right now I am in the midst of my guiding season so I spend most of my days on the water until late July. It's great to hear from you. Stay safe out there.

Good work! I had sometimes wondered how to get from Superior to Duluth by bicycle. Now I know (sort of). I'm looking forward to finding out if you used the Heartland Trail as part of your route across Minnesota. Let's see. September 2021, and you were going west. If we had timed it right we could have met each other on the trail. Pretty sure I would have noticed and remembered you if I had seen you, though. I think I had a GoPro camera going part of the time.

What size wheels, tire width and type are you using for episode 24? Great job of documenting realities of touring with great video that reinforces the story line.
Hi Phillip. Thanks fro the great comment. For this whole tour, and the first tour the year before, I used a Schwalbe Marathon Mondial DD 700x40. For the next tour I have a new bike that can handle wider tires but I'm still undecided of what kind and size. Likely about a 2" tire like a 45 to 50mm. All the best to you.

The next set of tires I'm using are Schwalbe G-One Speed. Only reason I'm switching is because my old frame only takes a 1.75" tire and that is the max range of the Mondial. My new bike accepts up to a 2.2" tire so I can go wider and lower pressure and the G-One might just be the one. We'll see

Hi Andy. What a beautiful bridge. Bridge crossings are likely my favorite riding. Something about going over a river on them. One season 3 I ride over the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as Oregon's crazy bridges, which made of crazy memories. Thanks for watching and reaching out

I would never ride without a mirror. Without it you'd be toast. I never have tried the helmet one but always wanted to. Mine is on my handlebar end and I always look for better ones. I call it my "best friend"
