  • Sky News Business Reporter Ed Boyd says the transport sector "is stuck in first gear" due to a lack of drivers, constant COVID testing, high beef and lamb prices and a massive demand for freight services.
"It threatens Australia's economic bounce-back," Mr Boyd said.
Robert Cavanagh, of trucking businesses Cavanagh's Transport and Stockmaster, spoke to Sky News Australia about how business has been impacted in recent times.
"We've seen probably a 25 per cent decline in our business in the last 18 months," Mr Cavanagh said.

I am a highly experienced road train driver, I am deliberately only working part time doing local runs simply due to all the Covid madness. I have no interest in getting tested every three days, showing my papers at the border and wearing a mask like I am a diseased rodent. The more rules they bring in the less I will work, if that means I never step into a truck again then so be it.

I have been watching the job ads for a while and the listings went berserk when the no-jab-no-job mandate came into force in Victoria. Prestigious industry big-names and all, were looking for drivers for "immediate start". The other thing I noticed was a big increase in the mix'n'match of prime movers and trailers. Everyone pulling everyone else's trailers in a bid to keep things moving. Desperate times for many operators, methinks.

Look at most transport companies and their prerequisite are minimum 3 years MC driving. So how do you find MC drivers jobs when nobody want to take on someone who has just got their MC or HC license. This is the problem . No transport company wants to take on a newly licensed driver because they don’t want 500k worth of truck and trailers + the load on its side . But without transport companies taking on new drivers they won’t ever have drivers. Good old catch 22 situation. Yes it’s the best job in the world, except for the police, heavy vehicle compliance officers, caravans and non existent dedicated heavy vehicle road side amenities.

Because they have no other means to cling to power, that's why. Take "covid" away from them, and the population will immediately see that the Fuhrer and his sidekicks are "naked kings". Stop the dole - and the angry mob will run to Spring Street and throw the whole bunch of politicians out of the windows.
