DeBeers does control the distribution quantity and that’s how Natural Diamonds are able to hold their value. There is nobody controlling the production of Lab Grown Diamonds. Another commodity is oil and oil production is controlled by OPEC, which prevents one or two oil fields from over producing and driving the price of oil down. Someone needs to create a Lab Diamond Cartel, otherwise the price of LGDs will continue to fall and they’ll become available as landscape material, for the garden. In 2024, LGDs are 90 -95% cheaper than Natural Diamonds.
Thanks Jay for sharing your thoughts. The comparison between natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds is certainly an interesting topic, especially in terms of production control and market dynamics. The evolution of the lab-grown diamond industry continues to shape its value proposition, and the lack of a centralized production control is a key factor. As the market matures, various factors, including consumer demand, technological advancements, and market strategies, will likely influence the pricing and positioning of lab-grown diamonds. It's an area that will continue to evolve over time.
