Greys were once I believe a spin-off part of the Hardy’s fly fishing family. Hardy are considered in England to be the Rolls Royce of fly fishing brands. However to be able to afford the wonderful Hardy stuff, you have to be pretty well blessed with cash. I have the 7/8 version of this reel and it is a fantastic buy. Plus you’re getting a bit of kudos having the Greys name on your tackle. Tight lines everybody.
Hi Trident. Thanks for the review, I was looking at this model for a euro nymphing set up. After the review - nah, I’ll go with a different reel. Please keep the videos coming.
Looks like it would be good for entry level trout spey.
So, can you tell us what the real difference is between the Fin and the Tail reel ? Trying to justify the cost difference?
I've noticed the Lamson Liquid goes on sale for around the same price. How would you say they compare?
I've got a Lamson Remix, which uses the same spools as the Liquid. The big difference, and an advantage for Euro Nymphing, is the Fin's full cage which is considered better for mono leaders. The extra weight of the Fin is also an advantage for Euro, and helps to balance the longer rods. As an all-around reel, I'd rather have a Liquid, but not for ESN. Greys sells a Euro Nymph combo which includes the Fin
This reel is utter garbage.
My 5/6 is 188 grams not declared 178, knob is too small, drag knob slips when I want to adjust, and sensivity is low.
Better to buy Maxcatch from China, than this (heavy) piece of junk.
