  • Getting ready for a lot of content on the Old Town Sportsman 106 starting with improving video quality. IN order to Mount another GoPro behind me I have to install an accessory rail using the YakAttack Mighty Mount XL. I do this installation without the included stock screws, but instead use water tight pop rivets. This install should work on just about any kayak or flat mounting surface.

    Would you guys use water proof rivets instead of screws to mount accessories to your kayak?

      I would go with water proof rivets.

      What makes these rivets waterproof?

    • @DonHutchins
      @DonHutchins Рік тому +3

      @@CrazyCranker A bit late, but in case you never found the answer, these rivets have a rubber gasket at the head. They are also aluminum (no rust). So these are perfect for watercraft applications like this.

      No, if you use a screw without drilling a hole it will be waterproof.

    This was a great video that was straight to the point and actually showed the important stuff. Rivets definitely look so much cleaner and much more solid. That track is going nowhere.

    I really wanted a 106PDL but the cost of the yak / lack of tracks is one of the reasons i went with the slayer10. There are pros n cons to both yaks but the amount of track is what sold me on the slayer. Nice install 👍🏼

    To install the mount without the tape, drill one hole on the end, install the rivet, then install a rivet on the opposite end. Then drill the rest of your holes and rivets.

    • @TimHaunFishing
      @TimHaunFishing  Рік тому

      That is a great idea. I used the double sided tape cause it was handy and to play around with different mounting positions before I settled on one. If you don't have the tape then that method would work very well. Awesome feedback

  • @DonHutchins
    @DonHutchins Рік тому +1

    Job well done; I like the rivets. I would have applied a very thin bead of silicone around each of the openings on the underside of the mount plate (instead of trying to get silicone into the actual hole). This would ensure a better seal against water. The rivet already has the rubber gasket to seal at the rivet head, so this would ensure you get a good seal at the base. My .02. Thanks for the video; your install looks great!

    • @TimHaunFishing
      @TimHaunFishing  Рік тому

    I have been trying to use the water proof rivets whenever possible. I think they will last longer than screws on surfaces where you can’t put a nut or something to anchor the screw.

    Thanks for the video Tim. Much appreciated! Looking at getting my first yak and the Sportsman is one of my two choices so it was even cooler that it's the boat you put the rail on. Great visual! BTW - How do you like your Sportsman?

    • @TimHaunFishing
      @TimHaunFishing  6 місяців тому

      I unfortunately had to sell mine. However; that does not mean I didn't love it. I'll say this; at 280lbs it was astonishingly stable. I was too heavy yo stand in it. I made the nose too heavy when I stood. But otherwise unbelievably stable. However; the trade off there is it handled like an oil tanker lol. It was a bit clumsy to get moving and turn. But as I fish moatly small lakes and ponds and fish rather slow, this was never a problem for me. Lastly, the seat was incredibly comfortable. I just wish it had sat up just a tiny bit higher so I could easily slide a 3700 box in and out. Overall if I bought another one I would not be disappointed. But if I had the means to transport it I'd probably go for a 12 to be a little less susceptible to wind and be able to stand up and fish.

      Just to add some input..I used those exact rivets on my trolling motor transom. They have been on there 4yrs now and still rock solid. A transom mount gets a lot of pressure from holding the motor, banging into rocks, and multiple hits to the garage door when I run into it car tipping 😂 ROCK SOLID
