Well honestly, i don't think the customer is being a "Karen" at all. Now just think for a moment and look in their perspective... Now if i was in their position, i wouldn't feel safe either. I mean, right after that little argument i had with the driver, the driver might've poisoned or spit in the food. So i honestly don't blame them for not wanting to take the food. Food services employees has a very bad reputation of messing with other people's food.

I had been all over town looking for jobs and doing interviews.( not begging , not expecting anything ) but the manager told me to pull up to a pump and put 10 dollars in my tank . I ended up working there for over two years . All of the managers were so good to me just great people . All I got to say is I do Uber delivery and sometimes they'll send you a order that only gives you $2.50 for like 4 miles of travel.( this is most likely the reason you order doesnt leave the store for a while).
I've gotten two different orders that were exactly the same pay out but one was twice as far as the other.
There's a lot of inconsistencies when you get orders and the distances.
Sometimes I'll get an order that pays out 15 bucks and it's just the right around the corner other times it's just 3.50.
And yes most of what you get paid is customer tips but sometimes there is that rare odd order that pays out a full amount from Uber.
For example over will give me a $4 order plus a $4 expected tip, or it would just send me an $8 order without any expected tip.
Sometimes I won't get an order for an entire hour even driving around... in the Bronx.
Some of you might say it's because there's a whole bunch of other delivery drivers and I say there's a whole bunch of packages still waiting to be delivered. There's usually a few packages sitting for awhile but I never get orders to deliver them.
There's also the size of the orders it's a little inconsistent but usually it's okay.
I've had a couple orders that were just a drink and I'll get $8 for those and then a couple family McDonald meals and I'll get $3 for those.

As a doordash driver myself who also does ubereats, grubhub and instakart on the side. YOU AS A DRIVER ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN GAS. If you don’t have the gas to make long distance deliveries, then you need to go and grab gas or do not accept the order. That goes for all delivery services. Neither the company nor the customer are responsible for helping you with your gas. I can understand why the customer was upset, but the level of upset that they got was absurd and over the top. We deal with that a lot in the industry. We deal with a lot of over the top customers that are just looking for a reason to get upset with us. Then they try to get a rise out of us by texting or calling us so they have grounds to get us fired. That is what was happening here.

I do Uber eats from time to time, and im convinced he was trying to scam the customer. If i was in his exact situation, i would’ve easily (instantaneously) cashed out whatever money I had already made that week. By the screenshots it seems this was in the early morning, and ofc no one begins their self employed work hours at 4 am, so i am certain he had already made some money. That being said, the customer had no need to act like a child. It’s common practice to leave food bags in obscure places on the ground, because there is a mutual understanding that the food wont spend much time there. Both parties are wrong, and both definitely wanted more than they were entitled to

There’s a reasonable way to handle most situations and the customer didn’t react appropriately either in my opinion.

As an UberEATS/GrubHub driver I will agree having gas on your car should be priority one. I always make sure that my tank is full or almost full when doing orders, especially knowing that I'll deliver to addresses that will be far. However, dealing with difficult customers like this person is also a thing. Especially when calling the customer multiple times about their order and not getting answer back or be sent to voicemail. So both were in the wrong, but this does demonstrate a con doing rideshare as a side job for anyone considering it. Among other things.😄

Your willingly ignoring the threat of shady internet people who have your address. If some shady person you don't know tries to pull what you think is a scam on you, and upon realizing they cant scam you is all the sudden 1. magically able to come up with the gas to get to ur address and 2. insistent that you come retrieve your food from them personally even when you request them to leave the food outside the gate. Why do they care if thats weird or gross it isn't their food? Why let someone shady into your neighborhood and up to your front door if you can avoid it. And if they all the sudden wanna loiter around your food until you come to get it I think its fair to threaten to call someone to get them to leave. Sounds like they recognized a scam, then feared the person may escalate it to a in-person shakedown and didn't want them near their front door for their own saftey and then got spooked when the person kept insisting they come in person to get the food and threatened to involve authorities. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Would you let some shady internet scammer who has the address to your front door into your gated area if you had a choice? Trying to say that feeling scared by a shady internet person refusing to leave your area is gonna get someone innocent brutalized by police is such a grossly anecdotal strawman.

Nah, he didn't feel safe because one minute the driver is talking about how he couldn't possibly make it there without extra money and the next he just shows up telling the customer to come outside. The customer has some Karen tendencies to be sure, that much is obvious from the final tweet complaining about the food on the ground, but the initial concern is still valid. If the driver managed to borrow it from a friend or something he should have told the customer he worked something out and he was back on his way. Showing up out of nowhere after you already tried getting extra money out of somebody and telling them to come outside is big scammer/robber energy.
