- This was one of my best days ever on the road bike. Just amazing, highly recommended, the Sellaronda in the Dolomites is a must-do ride
Thanks to Alta Badia for inviting me to ride the Sellaronda Bike Day

Rode it the day before your video. Can’t be a better 65k loop than this in the world of cycling, it’s stunning 👌🏻
That looks brilliant Dave. Certainly one for the hit list!
David thank you very much!
You caught the atmosphere and the spirit very well … besides the breathtaking surroundings.
Viva l'Italia!! When I rode it, it was an open to all traffic day in May. Lots of young Germans in leather on powerful motorcycles. Very respectful but loud.
We rode the day before and the noise of constant motorbikes passing us was insane. Like you say respectful because they're also enjoying the roads and scenery but damn them loud exhausts
Hi David , thanks for sharing this video .i was one of the 20K on 18th June and enjoyed every single minute there . my first Sella Ronda and my 1st time in the Dolomites , shame on me being born and raised in Italy , but i ll be back soon because this is really a paradise when it gets to cycling and hiking
Love your videos and your no nonsense take on cycling topics
Thanks Prasanjit :)
That looked really fun, maybe a little hot but better than raining. Thanks for taking me along on the ride, and I imagine that post ride beer tasted great, cheers.
Stunning - I’m out there for 10 days in August - counting the seconds 🤛
Great vid as always David, yes Dolomites are just superb - raced the Maratona a couple of times but looking forward to a Bike Day too! ;)
GREAT video, David! I has such a great time at the Sellaronda. I'm sorry I didn't see you! But your footage brings back all the recent memories!
Its by far my favorite place to visit.
Fantastic scenery, excellent food many different climbs in a small area. (passo Giau for instance is nearby).
Video on the Passo Giau coming soon :)
Wow!! This is amazing! Seems like a nice bike adventure this one.
Brilliant, beautiful scenery 👌
Beautiful, one day.... On my bucket list, cheers!
You had fun riding. It was great to meet you there before the bike day from South Korea. 🎉
Hey was greta to meet you as well your trip sounded amazing 👍
@@davidarthur Yes I finished all a month journey and back to home now. One day hope to ride together near future.
Thx David, fantastic video.
Glad you enjoyed it Monty :)
Stunning place to ride! One for the bucket list.
for 2 years i am looking forward to be able to take part at Selaronda bike day - unfortunately i was never free to go so far maybe i am able to take part in september this year :) your video is getting me hyped yet already
Definitely gives a greater appreciation for the pros riding up that thing...
Absolutely. Also rode up the Passo Giau for another video, man that thing is a brute. Just surviving let alone racing
@@davidarthur 🫣😳🫣
WoW … Bravo Dave!
Great video, looks AMAZING!
Beautiful video!
WOW awesome ride....thanks for sharing ! ! ! ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
In the US Pacific Northwest, we have Ride the Rim. On two weekends, they close the road around Crater Lake for car-free cycling. Not a race; just a ride. Gorgeous views and good climbs, though not with the passes and cycling history of the Italian event.
Certainly one for the bucket list, looks amazing. Weather looked sunny and hot, curious to know what kit you’re wearing? couldn’t help but notice a base layer…I’m doing the etape so I guess similar conditions
Great! Now do the "Alpenbrevet" in Switzerland. They're offering several routes, from bronze at 13 km and 1119 m of climb, to platinum at 278 km / 7090 m. I assume the different routes are to keep traffic real; it's terribly popular. Back in the day when I was doing it, the route was usually four passes (Susten, Grimsel, Nufenen, Gotthard): 160 km with about 5000 m of "up" -- ee-NUFF for one day where I was concerned.
after that ride, you earned a big plate of Carbonara pasta and beer
Awesome!
Incredible!
not to question your italian fluency but the plaque reads: "In the shadow of the majestic dolomite's peaks this bronze will witness over time the unparallelled challenges of the biggest cyclist of all times. To Fausto Coppi, the greatest champion. Passo Pordoi 2nd of july 2000 Municipality of Canazei."
Thanks for the accurate translation Federico 😎
Wow how awesome 😎 one for you bucket list
That was an awesome ride!! Viva L’Italia .. I would love to do that but not sure if it’s in the cards. My Father’s family is Italian .. they immigrated to Canada after the Second World War. Man just thinking of how life would have been different for me if they would have stayed. Ride on !! Cycling is the best form of stress release!!
I get the feeling you enjoyed that David? 🤣 It did look amazing!
Loved it Steve :)
Maratona Dolomites 2022 here we come 😄
Very nice 💯
Added to my “places to ride before I die” bucket list
wow looks amazing
Still one bike day more to come on September. Don't miss it.👍
And if you do not have enough you can add two more passes: valparola and giau and than you can go back to Campolongo. ♥️
Amazing
What were the logistics for getting to the area?
I'd considered it for this September.
But could not find great flights nearby - looking like Innsbruck with 2 flights (and the danger of my bike box getting through) and then a 90 minute bus...
Wow! What a bucket list climb. I wonder if they have bike rentals for those of us that would come from the US?
They do have plenty of bike rental options William, I was on a SuperSix Evo hire bike for this trip
Nice ride. Noticed there are still quite a few rim brake bikes out on the road.
Yup the rim brake isn't dead
Definitely one to put in the diary for 2023...
That does look like cyclists heaven.
That looks good.....proper non race
I’d like to see roads like this permanently closed to cars, at least on weekends (for example). That doesn’t mean leaving people who need to drag supplies from A to B screwed. If we can build interstate systems, we can put in tunnels and trains. The energy spent building the tunnels and tracks is saved 1000x over.
Hi, looking for some help here. Trying to find a similar event in the French alps over July/August. Does anyone know where I can look? Thanks in advance!!!
agreed on all fronts, roads so good , if you want a nice 'rounded'test the giau is not far away , 1000 m climbing , 10 k , even i can work that one out
Yup we rode that the day before, it’s a brute! Video coming soon
Have it on my todo for September, but hopefully it's not so crowded. Ideally there's more events like this as opposed to just less people coming :D
you're going to be fine, even outside the events those climbs are constantly full of cyclists, cars and motorbikes know that and are respectful there is always some degree of crowds on those passes in the weekend but the problem is parking a car not driving a bike.
did you have to queue for a long time to get the water? Great that the road was closed, but with so many riders, looks like there were many other bottlenecks...
Looks brilliant. How easy is it to get there from the UK with a bike?
plenty of lights into Venice and it's about a 2.5 hr transfer to Alta Badia so I'd say pretty easy and likely loads of companies that can arrange it all for you if you need
I plan to do this on my Brompton (some day).
I want to see that video!
Incredible scenery ! A tad too much traffic on the road to my taste, even if it is only cycles. Clearly a new bucketlist addition.
So beautiful
Wowsers, what a great idea. How many beers did you earn?
All of them! 🤣
n+1 applies to both beers and bikes I find...
Dang. My to-do list just got longer.
Uncut footage of all downhills pls
Belluno Dolomiti -> Sella Ronda uno dei più bei giri senza i fanatici punturati gabibbi toscani ed emiliani delle granfondo
3:49 cheeky ;)
Are there any similar events like this coming up in Europe?
not sure if there are any other events that are free and aren't races. The Tape is very popular and on closed roads but you obviously have to pay and it's sort of a race
@@davidarthur thanks for the reply. On the same note, if you were solo-biking, looking for a coastal route (not too intense), is Croatia a good shout or any places in Europe come to mind?
Sorry, just tryna get out of London/UK and ride somewhere abroad
Never been to Croatia. Can vouch for Portugal as a destination
@@elevenocean4471 Not a personal reference, but I used to read a blog of a guy who was once the UK hill climb champion, and he raved about Croatia. His blog was called cycling uphill. The review will doubtless still be there somewhere.
@@cdogensis6392 i may have just found it. Looks pretty good, thanks for the note
Oh man that cyclist blasting music from a speaker is so annoying. I would hate that
It may well be the best climb in the world. But it's still a climb. And for that reason it sucks. :D
This is just zwift in real life
